Patriots cancel Friday’s practice after positive COVID-19 test

The Patriots are set to face the Broncos on Sunday after the game was pushed back a week due to positive COVID-19 tests in New England, but there may be reason for that schedule to change.

ESPN reports that the Patriots have cancelled Friday’s practice because of a positive COVID-19 test in the organization. Per the report, they are also waiting to confirm a second positive test.

Should that test come back as a confirmed positive, there will likely be discussion about moving the game against the Broncos from Sunday. Moving it beyond Monday or Tuesday would prove difficult as both teams have now had their bye week and that leaves the league without a chance to do the kind of scheduling gymnastics that allowed them to move it to this weekend.

Word on the second test could come at some point on Friday and another round of testing results will come on Saturday morning.

  1. It’s liking watching one of those Friday the 13th movies. Just when you think Jason is dead and everyone is safe, up he pops again for another disaster.

  2. Relax, people. Based on the Colts having four false positives today, it wouldn’t surprise me if the Patriots had a few as well.

  3. Yeah, even though I don’t like the idea of forfeit, I dont know how else they will complete the season.

  4. NFL will have some tough decisions ahead. There was talk of a 12 week season plan — they could implement that allowing teams to miss games, but it will never be fair.

  5. Boom goes the dynamite. Denver hasnt played a game in two and a half weeks, now maybe three and a half. No player checks during this time or tv money to the teams. The NFL is falling.

  6. This is becoming an almost daily occurrence in the league. Why even bother continuing the season?

  7. Yeah, so let’s just keep postponing games and extend the season indefinitely. At some point they need to make a decision. Either cancel the season or cancel the games instead of postponing them.

  8. And it’s not even half way through the season! The league needs to shorten the season to either 14 or 12 games.

  9. The should have shortened the season to 12 games and eliminate the 4 interconference games for each team. It’s the only way to make up the canceled games.

    Just cancel the season already

As a Jets fan you should be calling for that every season

  11. The NFL better bubble up when the playoffs start. This is a problem that is not going to go away and may get worse before it gets better. The toothpaste is coming out of the tube and the NFL may need to consider extending the season in order to get all the games in. If teams get an extra bye week so teams missing games because of COVID – 19 issues then so be it. Late in the season I think if two teams that are both eliminated from the playoffs are scheduled to play they might want to think about not playing it at all. If nothing else this season is a season like no other.

  12. Enter the bubble before it is to late, who on planet earth decided it is a good thing to let fans back in the building when covid numbers are going through the roof and winter covid did not even rear it’s destructive head yet?

  13. It’s either bubble the teams in their cities or this season is either cancelled or so flawed its just not gonna matter. The virus is going to occur, its not fair to the other team to have their schedules adjusted because one or two teams cannot handle the protocols. Titans looked real bad after sitting home healing and preparing for one team didnt they? But according to the announcers, they were the team at a disadvantage, dont reward teams for an outbreak.

  14. Thanks,Roger Goodell for sending them to KC,where they had a small locker room, too small to properly socially distance. Ridiculous. This is a joke. A dangerous one… You can’t blame the Patriots for this.

Agreed, and then use the shortened season to create extra bye weeks

  16. Pats need to forfeit. Plenty of other teams have traveled and played this season, yet the Pats seem to have reoccurring problems. It’s time to assign them the L and move on.

  17. Have the teams that tested positive play the other team on Madden and broadcast that instead of canceling the actual game. Problem solved

  18. Really weak argument the blamers are saying the locker room was too small. It was still a Patriot that brought it in there. Also, when was it too small, after they got infected? Looks like Belichick is back to playing checkers without Brady

Really? Please name those other teams that were forced to fly immediately after testing positive for COVID-19!!!

  21. Move the Super bowl out 2 weeks to allow for rescheduled games due to positive tests during the regular season. It’s not rocket science. Nobody ever expected there wouldn’t be infection outbreaks during the season. The NFL front offices just needs to use some common sense.
You can’t point a finger at any player nor organization when they have positive tests,… unless they have players breaking protocol.
If that’s a proven case,…. give that team an Loss. A forfeit.

  22. My god the pats and titans players are all morons. (Not really but that’s what P6 said when other teams players were testing positive). Hurts when the shoe is on the other foot huh.

  23. Play through it.

Anyone calling for an end to the season should be forced to present their voter registrations cards. I’m betting there is a correlation between party and quitting.

  24. According to Dr. Sills the NFL’s Covid guru the Patriots are one of the teams that rates high in following the NFL’s Covid protocols.
It’s a virus, it travels, and people are going to get sick, especially with the colder weather coming.

  25. So how bad are you going to screw up everyone else’s season to accommodate the Pats once again. When does it become their problem and not everyone else’s?

  26. you can go 2-14 days with the incubation period before popping positive on your daily test. fact. if you cannot quarantine everyone away for that period of time, you’ll always have a rolling positive case.

  27. I ran out of gas! I got a flat tire! I didn’t have change for cab fare! I lost my tux at the cleaners! I locked my keys in the car! An old friend came in from out of town! Someone stole my car! There was an earthquake! A terrible flood! Locusts! IT WASN’T MY FAULT, I SWEAR TO GOD!
