Melvin Gordon out with strep throat

The Broncos will be without running back Melvin Gordon tomorrow in New England.

Gordon is not making the trip because he was diagnosed with strep throat, Mike Klis of 9 News in Denver reports. The Broncos decided not to risk strep throat spreading within the team by having Gordon on the team flight and at the game.

Gordon is also facing a potential suspension after he was arrested this week for drunk driving, although league discipline for that arrest will be a longer process.

In his first year in Denver, Gordon is the Broncos’ leading rusher with 65 carries for 281 yards this season. Phillip Lindsay, who has only seven carries this season because of a turf toe injury, is likely to get plenty of action in Gordon’s absence on Sunday.

  1. So a guy with strep does not make the trip. But a team with numerous covid players goes ahead and plays the game…..makes sense.

  2. The best thing for strep throat is a nice shot of Jack Daniels and we know Melvin Gordon loves the booze

  3. This Bronco fan just called the football gods and learned our team is doomed.
When the coach doesn’t know how to stop a pass rush and you don’t have a decent rusher, the opponent’ defense will have fire in their eyes. Expect at least 6 sacks and the starting QB running for his life and won’t finish the game.

It makes as much sense as the Pats being forced to fly to KC to play despite having recent COVID-19 infection.

  5. Me thinks his “sick day” yesterday was for numerous conference calls with his attorney and now he be looking for a quicky alcohol rehab program to influence the prosecutor and the judge and the team… just sayin…

  6. Even if he really is sick, why not say he’s not making the trip for conduct detrimental to the team? Now this game won’t even count towards the suspension.

  7. Lindsay is a great running back, arguably as good as Gordon. I’m glad to see that he’s getting a chance, again. He proved his worth, last year, before the Broncos brought in Gordon….for more money.

    Lindsay likely feels vindicated.

Probably. The Pats Amoeba D dismantled Mahomes and the Chiefs.

  9. The Denver Police keep those holding cells pretty cold…
so it’s probably both: hangover AND step.

Question: what do they owe him in guaranteed $$?

  10. Not sure but his salary was $8M a year. 2 years. I think it was all guaranteed. BUT, if he is suspended due to his DUI, this changes things.
