Patriots reopen facility, still plan to play Sunday

A day after the Patriots closed their facility because of a positive COVID-19 test, the team reopened it today.

Normal Saturday preparations are on and the Patriots’ Sunday game against the Broncos remains on schedule, according to Field Yates of ESPN.

The Patriots have had two of the highest-profiled positive COVID-19 tests this season, with starting quarterback Cam Newton and reigning Defensive Player of the Year Stephon Gilmore both testing positive. Both Newton and Gilmore are now active and eligible to play on Sunday.

The Broncos and Patriots were originally scheduled to meet last week, but the NFL juggled the schedule so they could play this week and hopefully prevent the spread of COVID-19 within the Patriots. Now that both teams have already had their byes, it would become much more difficult for the league to delay their games again.

  1. Any normal work place would be shut down for weeks. Not open close, open close every other day. If they want to stop the spread in their organization. They have to shut it down for a couple of weeks.

  2. This is far from the end. Cold and flu season has just started. Last week’s new cases in the US was averaging more than 56,000 cases a day, which is already an increase of 29% from just 2 weeks ago. It’s only going to go up. Sooner or later, the NFL juggling act of the schedule won’t have any solutions except extending the schedule.

As the President says–do not let the virus control your life
What does this mean? Just go out and get infected and hope you are one of the lucky ones?

  4. What does this mean?

It means $100,000 of experimental treatment and you’ll be fine in a week.

  5. Cowards can stay home. The rest of us are pushing through.

By the way, we aren’t interested in your opinions from your basement.

    Moving on!

  6. So now is the time:

    -Pats forfeit their next game
-No one in the organization gets paid for the week, from the players to the janitors to the owners and their cut of the TV contracts

It doesn’t matter what you think of the virus, it matters what the governing body of the NFL thinks, and they would prefer for this type of publicity to not happen. The virus doesn’t magically infect people, it infects people who don’t protect themselves and don’t respect it. The patriots are a multiple offender at this point, and so are the titans if another positive test happens. They need to be punished accordingly, and the fact they haven’t already is proof how little the NFL cares about their own rules.

  7. How sad that our nation can’t come together in the face of a pandemic that has infected over 8,000,000 and killed over 220,000.

Alas, the NFL could be a temporary respite but not if everyone looks at it like the Hatfields and the McCoys.

  8. How convient to wait/postpone/reschedule the game for the two best Pat’s players to return while their facility was shut down mere days ago. I guess Rog and Bobby are still pretty tight.

  9. So, the Pats infect the Broncs. The Broncos still have to play the Chiefs twice. Yep, Billichick is playing chess, not checkers
