Report: Antonio Brown, Bucs agree to a one-year deal

Well, that didn’t take long.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports the Buccaneers and Antonio Brown have agreed to a one-year deal that will reunite the star receiver with quarterback Tom Brady and coach Bruce Arians.

The sides still must finalize language, and Brown must pass both a physical and COVID-19 protocols, Schefter adds, but the four-time All-Pro is likely to make his Bucs’ debut in Week 9 against the Saints when Brown’s suspension ends.

It did not take long from the initial report that Brown would visit Tampa to a report that the sides were “very close” to now the report that it is done.

Brady has pushed for Brown to join him in Tampa since the day he signed his deal in March.

The last game Brown played — in Week 2 of the 2019 season — he caught four passes from Brady for 56 yards and a touchdown with the Patriots.

Offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich also has been an advocate for signing Brown. Brown not only gives the Bucs another big-time playmaker but depth as the Bucs’ top wideouts, Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, have battled injuries this season.

Brown, who has made seven Pro Bowls, has 841 career catches for 11,263 yards and 75 touchdowns.

  1. Week 9 he is eligible to return and that’s when they play the Saints.Good luck Evans Brown Goodwin and Gronk

  2. Yes, because what the bucs need is more wrs….. Just seems like an unnecesary risk to put him in a contending teams locker room. Hopefully he has changed and dosen’t implode the team.

  3. He’s a home-boye, chose to be closer to his homies with this signing. I hope at least Seattle’s shot at AB cost the Bucs some extra $$$ of their salary cap.

  4. I wonder what the over/under is before he gets cut. Hopefully that contract is loaded with incentives and behavioral clauses.

  5. If there’s anybody who can make this work, it’s Tom Brady. Receivers drop like flies throughout the course of the season. Brown knows that this is likely his last chance in this league.

  6. I am happy it wasn’t the Seahawks. He will be a better fit with the buccaneers anyways. With all of their receivers hurt, he can step right in and not take snaps away from anyone else unlike the Seahawks. Now, If he causes distractions, that’s a whole other issue.

  7. How’s he gonna react when Godwin and Evans both get more balls thrown their way than him?

  8. Old man Brady can’t throw the ball beyond 5 feet and can’t remember what quarter it is so what’s even the point.

  9. It’s almost as if you guys have no clue that Mike Evans has been a SHELL of himself this yr, he has no speed or separation. He’s been in and out, Godwin has been in and out as is Scotty Miller. Do you guys have any clue that against the bears they were playing with the 4th and 5th receivers. Depth is more of an issue than you may realize. This gives the Bucs a chance to put Evans on the shelf for a while if he still can’t get open. Evans in particular needs to get right

  10. Evans has been a SHELL of himself this yr

Yes, and AB has looked terrific all year! Not sure you get depth at a position when you add a guy who hasnt played in 18 months. Not sure that’s a depth move. Sound more like Brady wanted it, just like he wanted a washed up Gronk.

  11. Brady can’t throw the ball beyond 5 feet? His throws to Gronk against the Packers looked fine to me. He threw 5 touchdowns against the Chargers as well. It speaks volumes that Brown would much rather play with Brady than anyone else.

  12. Hahaha!! Pure desperation by Tom and Arians. Hope AB is content picking balls out of the dirt after Tom can’t deliver on a 10 yard out without one hopping it. Hahahaha!!!

  13. Most remarkable thing to me is the only AB clips we see on ESPN, NFL Net, etc.. are with him wearing a Patriots uniform. He played 1 game.

  14. Oh, this gonna be fun! Bruce Arians and AB going at it, with a side of Brady??? As the World Turns baby!!!

  15. Shoulda gone to a bad team that can gain a ton of garbage time yards. In 7 games he’s not gonna make an impact in TB.

  16. “no speed or separation, can’t get open”

And yet, like Cris Carter, “All he does is catch Touchdowns.” In spite of the fact that throughout the season, their three top receivers weren’t even healthy enough to practice through the week, he hobbled out there and caught big passes over defenders that led to or scored points, on an ankle that he could barely walk on. Six Touchdowns. Only one WR has seven and one other WR who also has six. Say what you will, but the proof of the pudding is in the production.

  18. These comments crack me up. Evans is a shell of himself?(playing on a bad ankle all year). Arians and AB going at it on the sidelines? Bucs have enough weapons without Brown to make a deep run. Adding Brown on a one year deal is a no brainer for the Bucs. If Brown opens his mouth in that locker room or on the the field about anything, Suh will bury him into the ground like he did Rogers last Sunday. Brady won’t bow down to AB and I guarantee AB will keep his mouth shut here or he’ll be gone. He’s a luxury until he’s not period.

  19. can’t wait until he flips out because Brady refused to force the ball to him through triple coverage. trust me, it’s coming…

  21. He’s been a shell of himself because he’s been injured brainiacs, I thought this was obvious and implied. Good god. Then some other guy talkin ‘bout “proof is in the pudding with the production brah!” Ya I’m aware he has 6 touchdowns, I LIVE in Tampa chief, you are being extremely disingenuous if you think 2 catches for 2 yards and 2 touchdown games are tenable. He was INVISIBLE, against the bears and packers because he couldn’t run. Spare me his end zone touchdowns that allow him to use his body to post up a defender. He needs to get healthy, you can mind numbingly try to justify however you want.

  22. He just wants attention. He’ll never play again. He’ll put his feet in the freezer, or find an issue with his helmet, or start having nightmares about Vontaze Burfict. I guarantee you he won’t play.

  23. And I thought Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey closed in 2017. Their winter quarters are located in Ellenton, FL, 42 miles from Tampa, on the southern part of Tampa Bay.
How did they get so many clowns in that little car?

  24. Chris Godwin would be a good fit in Philly with the Eagles, if the Bucs are willing to trade him now that they have a plethora of WR’s.

  25. What ever Brady wants, Brady gets! It was that way in N.E., and now that way in Tampa. End of subject.

  26. Thought it would be Jax … Minshew needs an experienced receiver to outscore people because the defense is terrible …

  27. Clown or not (and criminal), I think this connection will be huge for Tampa Bay.

Glad he’s not on my team (again), but it might make Tampa known for more than the stench of Busch Gardens.

  28. “Chargers as well. It speaks volumes that Brown would much rather play with Brady than anyone else.”
Yeah, because everyone was blowing up his phone. Lol

  29. They are going to salary cap crash in the next 2yrs. Brown is a 1yr rental bc the team cannot afford all of the current roster and giving him a big contract he will definitely demand if he acts right.

  30. Do these teams not keep in mind of this guy’s pending legal troubles? What a disastrous signing. For any team! In 2021 his ass will be before the courts on allegations of sexual assault. Was the tantrum with the moving truck settled? I don’t know because I lost track with Antonio Brown decades ago. He sucks. Because a ton of un-drafted talent got cut and aren’t on teams, but this guy get a red carpet in at the second he can join a team. NFLfilms: I want a spot on that episode where everyone is smack talking this guys return… that was never meant to be. And hey, question: why does DeSean Jackson get paid for his involvement in the NFL? That dude’s like a Paid Intern.

  31. Man, I was looking forward to Evans-Lattimore round 2….Jenkins-Brown might be just as exciting…
