Titans fined $350K for COVID-19 violations

Word last week was that the Titans would be fined for violating COVID-19 protocols while avoiding other penalties and now there’s a sense of how much the organization will be fined.

NFL Media reports that the team is expected to be fined $350,000 for their violations. Those violations include a failure to wear masks at the team facility as directed and players holding workouts outside the facility after it was closed due to positive tests.

No individuals are expected to be disciplined. The league has threatened lost draft picks or game forfeits for violations, but those punishments have not been handed down.

The Raiders may be the next team in line for punishment for failure to follow protocols. Right tackle Trent Brown tested positive last week and was found to not be wearing his contact tracking device at the facility as mandated by the league. The Raiders have already been fined for head coach Jon Gruden not wearing a mask on the sideline and for a violation of locker room protocol.

UPDATE 7:59 a.m. ET: The original report from NFL Media said the Titans would be fined either $300,000 or $350,000. An update pegged the fine at $350,000.

  1. Most amazing thing to me is the Fins let their guy go to this team who is playing as one of the best QB’s in the league with, at the time, had little regard to his feels but now have their panties all in a knot over Ryan Fitzpatrick’s feelings. It’s no wonder how the Dolphins over the past years found themselves as if they were in the Bermuda Triangle.

  2. So they willfully screw up league scheduling and get “only” a $350K fine? A decent commissioner would have taken away a draft choice or two.

  3. Sort of pathetic. That’s like a $500 speeding ticket and court cost fine to the average person.

    They cheated.

  4. Money means nothing in regards to this….lose of a draft pick means something.

They also snuck off to practice while other teams minded their ps and qs, and were victims of not having a delayed game like they received.

But this really isn’t much a punishment. I knew cheater Goodell wouldn’t take a pick as Tenn could be a team to knock off NE in the postseason, as we just saw.

He will not weaken any AFC that can possibly cause harm to NE.

  6. Be interesting to see how the Giants get addressed after Barkley Jones & another’s were seen out in New York just a few days ago having dinner & going to a bar after ( though closed to public), they are NOT suppose to attend gatherings outside the facilities….. still waiting to see how the league brushes that one under the rug…..
