Matt Ryan: I want to be here and hopefully that will be the case

Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones addressed chatter that the team could try to trade him after Sunday’s loss to the Lions by saying that he wants to remain with the team.

Quarterback Matt Ryan did the same on Monday. Both veterans have had their names thrown around as potential trade chips because of the team’s 1-6 start and ongoing regime change, but Ryan said he wants no part of starting fresh somewhere else.

“I don’t worry about noise outside of our building. . . . I want to be here and hopefully that will be the case,” Ryan said, via D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Trading Ryan would leave a lot of dead money on the Falcons cap and it’s impossible to know what the team’s next coach and General Manager will want to do at any position, so a trade seems unlikely for reasons beyond Ryan’s stated disinterest in moving to another team.

  1. Julio could bring some interest on the trade market. Does anyone actually want Matt Ryan? He’s overrated and vastly overpaid.

  2. That’s too bad. Falcons need a fresh start and that includes Ryan and Julio. They are going nowhere with either one.

  3. Truly a game of inches….had Gurley fell short of the goal line and the Falcs took care of biz….would the headlines in Motown call for Stafford being shopped to the Cowboys?

  4. I think there is a market for Ryan because there was one for Philip Rivers, not a trade mind you, but Rivers is leading a team right now.

  5. I hate the Falcons, being that Im a Saints fan. That said, I appreciate that Julio is more adult than Michael Thomas. I also think Ryan is a decent guy who is basically Dak- loaded weaponry around him, great stats, quality guy, just held back by a bad defense, bad coaches, and he is more very good than great.

Except hes not overpaid going by the contracts given to his position hes at market value. Just because you dont think qbs should be paid that doesnt make them overpaid when it’s actually market value.

As for who would want him well just setting aside the rebuilding teams and toss ups it’s obvious he would be an improvement on the bears, colts, cowboys and Patriots.

  7. Overpaid, underachiever, piles yardage when he feels he could overcome the team score..
    Loser all his NFL career

  8. Both sides would be better off separating. Ryan could head over to the Steelers post-Big Ben, the Colts if they want to go old vet pt 2, back up to Boston if Cam continues the poor play, hell even the SAints.

  9. Matt Ryan will be Joe Flacco 2.0. Once the Falcons draft a QB, Matt Ryan will be benched and eventually bounce around the league.
