Cowboys rule out Andy Dalton

Ben DiNucci will be the Cowboys’ starting quarterback on Sunday Night Football.

The Cowboys officially ruled out Andy Dalton with the concussion he suffered last week against Washington. That leaves DiNucci as the next man up.

A seventh-round rookie out of James Madison, DiNucci was drafted with the idea that if he made the roster at all, his role would be to learn behind Dak Prescot and Dalton as a rookie. But things have not gone according to plan in Dallas, and with Prescott out for the season and Dalton out for at least Sunday night against the Eagles, DiNucci gets the call.

Garrett Gilbert will serve as DiNucci’s backup.

  1. I hope he lights it up and resets QB contract expectations. Longshot, I know. But here’s hoping.

  2. Ok. The only people who thought they were being cute by not ruling him out are on the Cowboys staff.

I’m surprised Dalton remembers his name and is DeNuzzio really that much of a downgrade from what Dalton was putting on tape prior to getting hit?

    Dalton or DiNucci?

  4. The NFC lest is still available to any teams that has a winning streak at the right time. Nobody is locked in or out. Sadly, it looks like the Cowboys are giving up and writing off this season hoping to get a better draft pick in the next draft.

At least my 2 others teams I root for are trying to win a championship.

  5. Nooch, they goona try to Break U Face!! Philly is a tough place to play. Remember these are the fans that booed Santa Claus. You may want to send a note over to Uncle Vito and Uncle Rocco before you get there to take care of some business!

Could be a tough night for Cowboy fans….DiNucci will be blitzed all night long.

I doubt it. My guess is that Schwartz sticks with his Wide 9 and challenges the rookie to beat the Eagles in the pocket.

  7. When Dak went down,Dallas fans were like……We wont miss a beat because Dalton has experience!…Now Dallas fans are like….Maybe we can draft Trevor Lawrence!!!

Yet Bostic gets to play. Nice system

It was a clean play and shouldn’t have been a penalty. Dalton slid into the hit.

  9. Interesting tidbit: DiNucci also played basketball in school. His coach was Joe McCarthy, the late brother of Mike McCarthy.

A short list of quarterbacks who played scholastic football in Western Pa:

Dan Marino, Joe Montana, Joe Namath, Jim Kelly, Johnny Unitas, Charlie Batch, Marc Bulger, George Blanda, Johnny Lujack, Jeff Hostetler, Gus Frerotte, Terrelle Pryor, Alex Van Pelt, Terry Hanratty Ted Marchibroda,
