Patriots rule out Stephon Gilmore

Cornerback Stephon Gilmore did not make the trip to Buffalo, with the Patriots downgrading Gilmore to out for Sunday’s game against the Bills.

Gilmore injured his knee during a collision in Thursday’s practice, Mike Reiss of ESPN reports. The Patriots listed Gilmore as a limited participant that day before he missed Friday’s practice.

The Patriots listed Gilmore as questionable on their status report.

J.C. Jackson, who was limited in Friday’s practice with a knee injury, is expected to replace Gilmore.

The Patriots also downgraded rookie safety Kyle Dugger (ankle) and rookie offensive lineman Justin Herron (ankle) on Saturday, ruling them out.

The Patriots ruled out receivers Julian Edelman (knee) and N'Keal Harry (concussion) and defensive tackle Carl Davis (concussion) on Friday. The team is expected to place Edelman on injured reserve after he underwent knee surgery Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

  1. As a Pats fan, if the Bills don’t win this game Sunday they may get swept again by the Pats. Pats down to average joes at wr, no te’s that have shown anything and their secondary is all banged up and do far terrible to average qb play. If not now, when? Those aren’t excuses either, those are just facts. Belichick the GM has taken a massive dump on Belichick the coach. It feels like the late 80’s, early 90’s in Foxboro again. Ouch.

  2. I don’t care how many people they have out. NE has a domination over the Bills like I have never seen. Still nervous about this one!!!

  3. Gilmore won’t even cross a sidewalk now without protection until he is traded.

Thanks for the memories. They were good.

  4. Which Josh Allen will show up for this game? The real Josh Allen will struggle and possibly lose.

  5. He just doesn’t want to get absolutely smoked after calling out Diggs before the season. He probably twisted his own knee to save the embarrassment.

  6. Can’t help but wonder what was said between Mahomes and Gilmore during that infamous hug at midfield a few weeks back!

  7. Forecast is rain and 30-50 mph winds. It would hurt the Pats more if this was a key OL or DL player. Should be run heavy for both. Pats may run 2-3 TE looks. Still, I hope the Bills win.

I don’t agree. Bill managed the cap brilliantly for 20 years, but part of that was continuously restructuring Brady’s and other’s contracts to push cap charges down the road.

This year he at almost all those cap charges at once and even with a lowered cap next year the Pats will have plenty of space to work with.

Plus the Pats had I think it was 10 players opt out due to covid, the most of any team and IIRC either 6 or 7 of those were starters. That was something totally out of Bill’s hands.

Next year is when he has the chance to pull it all back together. I don’t think there’s any fanbase that wouldn’t trade one bad years for 20 of success with 6 Super Bowls. Next year is a different think. Belichick has to put together a truly competitive team.

  9. Bad weather games used to be music to Patriot fans ears. Everyone around the country knows what Brady could do in normal situations, but he was even better in horrible weather, and the Pats would let you turn the ball over to them all day while they protected it.

With this 2020 version of the Patriots, we now don’t know what to expect. Unfamiliar and unsettling territory for most of us.

Wrong. Tom Brady had a domination over the Bills. Now you’re just facing a normal team.

  11. Pats will have to pay more to sign quality players now that they’ll be playing under a sub-.500 head coach pre and post Brady. Pathetic.

It was 8 players, not 10. It was 3 starters, not 7-8. Of the 8, one was on the practice squad last year and two had just been signed in the off season. Another mainly played special teams. The Patriots used a second round pick on a position where one of the starters opted out. In better shape next season? Maybe. Tell me again what they’re going to do at QB. Brady is gone and you’re more likely to see players taking a pay cut to sign with KC or TB then New England.

  13. Did someone remind the Bulls that they have a game? Someone forgot to tell them that they had a game against the Titans.

  14. Pats are in a rebuilding year. Bills have not been as good as advertised, but will win this one and eventually the division.

  15. Im actually excited to see younger players getting pushed in. Gilmore being an exception, our injured list is guys that weren’t getting it done before they got hurt either so its not like they are leaving any gaps that weren’t there already. Gunner and Meyers and Keene getting pressed into duty against a legitimate tough opponent will be interesting to watch. In fact, win or lose, this is a bit of a scouting game. I want to see more of what Dugger is about too so if adjustments for Gilmore get him onto the field more thats good too. This is like a preseason game against a quality opponent playing at regular season speed. I wont mind if Stidham gets more minutes too. Need to see him more before this off season. (He also has a history if connecting really well with Meyers too, I have always wanted to see that tested against some tougher competition)

  16. A divisional game should not be & never will be taken for granted. They are always tough matchups regardless of standings.

  17. Belichick the GM is average at best. Sure he’s great at getting the best out of old castoffs or resurrecting troublesome players, but over the years he had Brady there to help players decide to go to NE. His drafts on the other hand are more miss then hit. Numerous talks on Felger and Mazz show about this subject and they’re right. Harry is a complete bust, kid has size and plays like he’s 5’7. He lacks drive and heart it appears. Dugger may be a good pick as it looks now, but drafting the kicker was a complete waste and that’s just this last draft. Now even the Newton signing looks like a waste of time. I lived the lean years before the 20 year run so I’m not going to get all bummed out but there’s some tough sledding ahead for the Pats. One year will not be enough to right the ship.

  18. This is possibly BB working towards getting high draft picks.
He will do some trades and lose plenty of games down the stretch

  19. It’s still a divisional game, it’s still the Patriots and most importantly it’s still BB. My Bills should win this game, I mean we are clearly the more talented team at this point. But like previous poster said it’s still a divisional game AND the Pats. Kinda wish the weather was better, run game vs run game favors New England but regardless the Bills need to man up, take care of business and just win this one. It’s another no upside game for Buffalo – win and it feels like, well of course we won. Lose and it feels like same old bills. Most real bills fans are pretty nervous about this one. Get the W then we can see if we learned from the KC and Ten losses. PIT and SEA on deck. We’ll see if this team has whet it takes soon enough

  20. I wonder how many Patriot fans hang with the team through the re-build? BB might just ride off on his yacht and call it a career.

  21. The last time the Pats drafted a player that made the pro bowl was 2013. I mean everyone makes the pro bowl right? It’s true the GM has not done the coach any favorites. But one thing I would add, is now you have so many Belichick people in the league as coaches and GM’s, it seems they go after the same types of players, so the players he may want are gone before he can pick.
