Drew Brees throws two touchdown passes as Saints beat Bears in overtime

Drew Brees is again the NFL’s career passing touchdown leader. For at least a day.

Brees threw two touchdown passes in the Saints’ win over the Bears today, giving him 560 career touchdown passes. That moves him ahead of Tom Brady, who has 559. Brady plays on Monday night, so Brees may not have the record for long.

The game was a wild, back-and-forth affair that went into overtime and ended with a Saints field goal and a 26-23 win.

Although Brees threw some poor passes in the wind in Chicago and looked like his arm strength was lacking, his accuracy was on point on shorter passes, and he did enough for the Saints to win.

Brees looked better than Bears quarterback Nick Foles, who struggled so much that social media was lighting up with suggestions that Foles could be benched for Mitch Trubisky. That didn’t happen, and Foles did lead the Bears to 10 fourth-quarter points, but it wasn’t enough.

The win improves the Saints’ record to 5-2, and they remain among the NFC’s elite teams. The Bears fall to 5-3, and they missed a great opportunity to move ahead of the Packers in the NFC North. Chicago and Foles fell just short on a big day for Brees and the Saints.

  1. Instead of the game of the day, LA got the snoozer. Thanks NFL. Nobody cares about the NFC west. Boring.

  2. The only worse than a Trump speech about turning the corner on covid is watching Foles in slow mo.

  3. Saints winning @ bears without top 3 receivers says a lot. That’s winning ugly Mr. Folse.

  4. I guess saints defensive line gets credit for this win. The secondary again gave up chunk plays, d line pressure is only thing I can figure kept bears from more deep throws. Brees accuracy was poor compared to his norm. The play calling by Payton was the worst i can recall by him. Hard for me to even fall back on the win os a win thought line.

  5. Da Bears need an offensive line….pace should go to Japan and get some heavy weight Sumo’s for the offensive line.

Pace should go to Japan…. and stay there.

  7. At least it was an opponent this time and not a team mate Gardner antagonized enough to punch him.

  8. With as bad as the Bears are, they should just fade into oblivion and hope for a better draft pick. If the Bears win, it’s because they over-achieved. They need help at every offensive position and a few on the defensive side too .Bad, bad and more bad.

  9. If the Saints had even one of their top 3 WR’s, this would’ve been a blowout by midway through the second quarter. They were signing people off the street to start at WR.

  10. Foles looked bad at times but they did a lot of blitzing and its almost as if he has only one play to run and cant audible t play two depending on the alignment of the defense.
This is not a talented team on offense, they are losing the games more then the d. The D is keeping them in the games but so far Foles isnt any better then Trublinski was. At least the Tru could run and avoid sacks.

  11. The Saints need to play better and figure out how to take a lead and keep putting up points bc the Bucs are going to give them everything they have next week and it may decide the NFC South! If the Saints win next week, it’s a sweep. keep in mind, the fact remains the Bucs can put good teams away. That’s something the Saints haven’t done, yet!

“So it wasn’t Trubisky after all”

Oh it was Trubisky….and Foles….and a few other things. But mostly Foles and Trubisky.

  13. Now we have a better understanding of what losing “UGLY” looks like. 5 & 3 becomes 5 & 4 becomes 5 & 5 and soon we are at 5 & 6 land. Pretty clear why Foles is on team 5 right now

  15. The 2020 Bears have become one of the most undisciplined teams I’ve seem in quite a while. Trestman had things under better control.

The issues are far deeper than QB, OL, or play calling. Nagy is simply out of his league as a HC. Foles comment that Nagy didn’t understand there wasn’t enough time to run a called play was self evident at least twice yesterday.

    Nagy needs to go.

  16. How can you be a veteran QB, superbowl MVP and still make worse football decisions than Tribisky? Jacksonville fleeced the bears big time.
