Sunday Night Football: Eagles win ugly, 23-9, to remain in first place

It wasn’t pretty. In fact, it was pretty ugly.

But a win is a win is a win. . .

The Eagles overcame four Carson Wentz turnovers to beat the Cowboys 23-9 on Sunday Night Football. They improved to 3-4-1, while the Cowboys fell to 2-6 in perhaps their last, best hope of winning the NFC East.

Wentz lost two fumbles and threw two interceptions, but also threw touchdown passes of 2 yards to Jalen Reagor and 9 yards to Travis Fulgham. He was 15-of-27 for 123 yards.

Fulgham caught six passes for 78 yards.

The Eagles had only 222 yards, with Boston Scott rushing for 70 yards on 15 carries.

The Cowboys managed only 265 yards and scored only three points off Wentz’s miscues. Third-string quarterback Ben DiNucci lost one fumble after the Cowboys reached the Philadelphia 7 and had his second fumble returned for a controversial 53-yard touchdown by Rodney McLeod.

The Cowboys were down only six points, and driving at the Philadelphia 21, when T.J. Edwards stripped DiNucci on a blitz. It appeared Vinny Curry had possession and was down by contact, touched by Connor Williams, before Williams ripped the ball out. The ball was kicked, allowing McLeod to scoop and score.

The game was not stopped for the play to be officially reviewed.

DiNucci went 21-of-40 for 180 yards, and Ezekiel Elliott rushed for 63 yards on 19 carries.

The Cowboys have scored 22 total points in the past three games without Prescott, including only one touchdown which came in garbage time against the Cardinals.

Fletcher Cox had three tackles and a sack, and Brandon Graham had four tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Edwards had 12 tackles and the sack and forced fumble.

  1. Eagles struggled to beat Ben Dinucci; let that sink in. Offense was obviously limited, but first time in weeks that Dallas showed a little fight.

  2. Dallas was bad last year and the schedule makers put them in for 5 2020 prime time match ups; WHY?

  3. Diehard Eagles fan here, honestly speaking, Wentz is getting worse and worse. He makes extremely poor decisions, turns the ball over at an alarming rate and it is becoming clear that he is not worth the massive contract. His excuses (“I have to be better / it starts with me”) in the post game press conference(s) are extremely reminiscent of Andy Reid’s “time’s yours”. This team might win the division, but they are far from being any good.

Because they historically always have the highest ratings and make the league more money. Though I can’t imagine tonight’s ratings being very good for that slop.

  5. I feel dumber for having watched this game. This set football back 50 years. Nearly unwatchable.

  6. At this point I’m rooting more for draft position than a win for the Cowboys, but despite the final score this wasn’t the s show the Cowboys have been putting out week in and week out. They were actually competitive on both sides of the ball tonight, even with a 3rd string qb making his first start.
On the other hand even though the Eagles are winning this division by default I was amazed at how bad Carson Wentz looked tonight. The Eagles are going nowhere if he doesn’t play better

The Defense beat up on him all night Its the offense that struggled I mean its common sense

  8. Wentz your kidding me. If my high school QB pulled that garbage there would have been a fight before we got to the bus. Cannot do that to your defense. Whiffle ball and kept a really bad team in the game. Who cares who wins the division, it’s embarrassing

  9. Being a Falcons fan it’s even tough for me to watch the Eagles and Cowboys.

I will give the Eagles credit in that they play hard and fight. The Cowboys have absolutely quit. When a guy named Boston Scott out rushes Elliott you don’t need to say anything else. I thought it was all the Dallas line causing issues for him but come on, being a first round draft pick that got paid you have to show me more. Then I look at the Eagles offensive line and Peters is plain old, then all they have is Kelsey. So I don’t want to hear that non sense from cowboy fans. Your team quit.

Eagles probably need a new QB, hence the Hurts pick. I believe they knew it too.

they do this EVERY year!!! i swear they play half their games on snf..tnf..mnf.. or as foxs game of the week every damn year regardless of howbgood or bad they are.

  11. wentz needs to learn to either throw the ball away (not to the opposing defense ) or just go down. stop retreating ten yards and turning a five yard loss into a 15 yd loss or fumbling and trying to make a big play and throwing a puck. he just seems to not be there mentally so hes messing up constantly!!!!

  12. Cowboys are nothing without Dak. Chris Simms has been right all along! After watching this team fall apart I think Dak’s asking price is going up… up…. up!

Dinucci and Wentz had almost identical QB ratings, let that sink in. $130 mill QB and 7th round scrub. Zero difference tonight.

Lurie is becoming Daniel Snyder even after seeing what a trainwreck that franchise has been the last 30 years.

The star players go over the coaches head to him which always works out. How do you think Wentz’s best buddy got to be QB coach? Do you think Press is telling Wentz what he needs to hear or what Wentz wants to hear as long as the checks clear.

  14. The Vikes and Eagles should swap QB’s. Both contracts are equally crippling and the players performance equally suspect. A change of scenery might be beneficial. It would be a homecoming for Wentz.

  15. Cowboys homer here so I am obviously biased. But the ‘Boys got jobbed twice on same play. Are we going to pretend that on the same play where the fumble happened and Eagles score touchdown that not only was he touched while down on fumble recovery and not reviewed after score as you pointed out, but the Eagles not only lined up offside, actually were offsides in the neutral zone before the ball snapped on top of that. We suck I get it, I admit it, I own it, but let us lose on our own, clearly we demonstrated we don’t need help losing.

  16. It’s so cute watching Dallas and Philly fans argue over who sucks more …. Washington Football Team.

Dallas has all its skill players offense and defense and still couldn’t beat Wentz playing with practice squad players … might wanna let that sink in.

  18. He wasn’t offsides on the play. I suppose the refs are to blame for all the Cowboys losses huh? Give it a rest. They suck.

Also, I don’t think Dak getting hurt is the problem. The Cowboys’ biggest problem is their offensive line. It used to be a strength. Now it’s a serious liability. Then you have Elliott playing like someone who wants to be cut. Losing both tackles and your center retiring, then with Martin playing hurt….that offensive line is a shell of what it was when their window was open. Look forward to more 4-12 years Cowboys’ fans. Better get used to blaming the refs.

I would bet that the 1 Nov SNF broadcast will still be the highest rated program on TV this week, and probably by a wide margin because the election coverage will bump all the regular shows off screen.

“Has all its skill players offense and defense” vs “playing w/practice squad players” LMAO!!!!

  21. The score of this game should be recorded as 1-0. No stats should be recorded, and no scores tallied. That game was one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever seen. At no point in that game was either team even close to anything that could be considered competent play. Everyone fan who watched is now dumber for having watched. I award them no points, and may God have mercy on their souls.

  22. Let’s be real – ratings are higher than sayyyy an NBA Playoff game largely due to gambling and fantasy football. DFS, and single game tournaments makes garbage games like last night exciting. It’s the perfect storm in that there’s only 1 slate of games a week, single game tourneys are more fun and that drives ratings through the roof. You think that piece of garbage game last night would have high ratings if millions of people didn’t have something on the line with fantasy and/or playing the lines? Please.NFL is greatly being aided by fantasy and the unique schedule that palatable for the fans

  23. Mailata is the future left tackle, play him at left tackle. Tell Peters he re-signed to play right guard when no other team was interested and that he has been a below average left tackle for at least two years. Also, Wentz looked horrible last night.
