On Sunday, the Raiders rushed tackle Trent Brown to the hospital after a pregame IV mishap resulted in air in his veins — a potentially lethal condition.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Brown remains hospitalized on Monday morning. He is getting more tests done.

The NFL Players Association already has launched an investigation. Obviously, it’s something that should never happen in the exercise of proper care, and the league and union need to understand what occurred so that it will never happen again.

Due to COVID-19, Brown missed the Week Seven game against the Buccaneers. He was slated to play on Sunday until the IV blunder triggered apparent concerns regarding a potential air embolism.

  1. So this is two injection related potentially life threatening accidents by NFL team medical staffs this year, one of which basically ended a guy’s career as a starter.

In age where the competency of a team’s medical personnel is more important than ever before, I am not encouraged by this.

  2. Whats the deal with these doctors messing up this year? First Tyrod Taylor gets his lung punctured and now Trent Brown gets air in his veins? Who do they hire for this? These team doctors need to be retrained

  3. Lawyer up. Malpractice is one of the leading cause of injury/death in this country. Retire and live off the settlement.

  4. Trent is awfully lucky it got caught. Imagine what would have happened if it wasn’t. Someone was looking out for the big man.

  5. Hopefully he’s going to be ok. Between this and their COVID issues, the Raiders seem to have a pretty incompetent medical staff.

  6. Does anybody else remember what Clint Eastwood said about health care in Las Vegas in the movie Million Dollar Baby. The only reason I do is because I lived there and everybody there at the movie started busting up. For us that lived there it was the funniest line in the movie.

I wouldn’t surprised if a bunch of team doctors opted out the season and they are bringing in the practice squad. Jokes aside, both situations were serious and should be looked into by the league and NFLPA

  8. From what I have heard. The medical sponsors are basically an income generates for the team. Lots of medical practice businesses will want to be the Team sponsor to be part of an NFL team. So the team is not finding the best medical professional for their players, but which medical business pays the most for the sponsorship. Since the Raiders have the poorest owner, I can see why they are going in this direction.

  9. For him to get hospitalized over it means that it had to be a major air bubble. That’s an error that CAN NOT HAPPEN! Tyrod is one thing, it’s apparently a known risk with a rib ejection. This however is completely unforgivable.
