Dolphins’ throwbacks could eventually become their permanent uniforms

Several teams have alternate uniforms that look better than their primary uniforms. The Dolphins, in the opinion of many, definitely should embrace their throwback configuration over their current helmets, jerseys, and pants.

As explained by Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, “a lot of people” in the organization want the throwbacks to become the permanent uniforms. Per Salguero, owner Stephen Ross has yet to give the final approval to undo the massive logo and uniform overhaul that the team unveiled in 2013.

Among the proponents of the old-school uniforms, modeled after the team’s original look from 1966, is coach Brian Flores. Although he initially parroted the stereotypical “football guy” line during a Thursday video conference — “I like to coach, I don’t care what we’re wearing” — Flores eventually came around, after his Belichickian tendencies fizzled out.

“If you want me to vote, I’ll vote for the old uniforms, if you want me to be casting votes,” Flores said, via Salguero. “If I had to choose the old or the new, I’d probably go with the old.”

And in the event anyone missed Flores’ clear preference, Salguero says Flores added this line before ending the videoconference: “I like the old uniforms.”

They’ll wear them on Sunday against the Chargers. As the team begins to perform like it did back in the early ’70s, it makes plenty of sense for them to look like they did then, too.

  1. The majority of old school uniforms look much better than anything new that’s come out in awhile.,Dolphins, Jets, Lions, Broncos, Vikings just off the top of my head have awesome throwbacks.

  2. This would be wonderful, a very small percentage of fans actually like the current logo and uniforms.

Please Mr Ross, do the right thing!

    Phins up! 🐬
    Mask On! 😷

  3. That would be great…NOW if we could get the Falcons, Buccaneers, Vikings,Patriots and Seahawks to go back to their original HELMETS AND uniforms the universe would be perfect! Yes ,I’m very old-schooL

  4. Nope.

Goodell speciifcally said this is not allowed. If you changed your helmet and logo (which Miami has) at all in the last 25+ years, you are not even allowed to wear throwbacks.

This is why the Pats have been blocked from wearing theirs for years.

It’s amazing to me how he applies a rule just to the Pats and let’s all other teams do what they want.

It’s almost like he doesn’t rememeber or care that people pay attention.

  5. You don’t dare go against the ghost of Joe Robbie. Once the stadium name changed, and uniforms changed (the first time to that stupid cartoon dolphin) im pretty sure we are barely .500 and 3 playoff appearances and a ton of BAD LUCK!!!!

  6. Their redesign is the textbook example of being too “in between.” So much like their old look it invited unfavorable comparisons and not new and different enough to excite anybody or cause them to buy new gear. If you look at the teams that had the most successful redesigns you’ll note most of them changed everything, including the colors. If you’re going to change things then you need to actually CHANGE something and not just do minor tweaks.

  7. I’ve boycotted buying anything Dolphins EXCEPT for throwback merchandise since they changed to that awful logo and terrible lighter colors. Hope they do the right thing and bury the current look and never bring it out again.

  8. Smart move. They should never changed them in the first place. (Time is running out, Rusty)

  9. Sometimes it takes the message a little while to get to the top of the tower. I’m sure the management of the Dolphins have been hearing from the beginning that the “new” uniforms weren’t cutting it. It may be a matter of pride, ego or whatever but eventually people realize it’s OK to admit a mistake. The Rams & Buccaneers are guilty of this.

  10. The Throwbacks carry the rich history, tradition and fandom of all the great teams, players and coaches we had. Like the Perfect Season. Never losing to the Bills in the 70s. Throw the new ones out with the losses! Let’s get back to the way it was! All those winning seasons!
