NFL may discipline Saints for violating COVID-19 protocols

The Saints posted videos on social media showing their locker room celebration after beating the Buccaneers on Sunday night, apparently failing to realize that they were giving the NFL evidence that they weren’t following the league’s COVID-19 protocols.

Now the NFL is considering significant discipline against the Saints, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports, thanks to videos showing many Saints players and coaches violating the rules about social distancing and wearing masks in the locker room.

The Saints’ discipline is expected to be similar to what the league did to the Raiders, which was a $500,000 fine for the franchise, a $150,000 fine for head coach Jon Gruden, and the forfeiture of a sixth-round draft pick.

Like Gruden and the Raiders, Sean Payton and the Saints have already been fined $100,000 and $250,000, respectively, for a previous violation of the league’s COVID-19 rules. The NFL doesn’t look kindly on repeat violations, and as COVID-19 cases reach an all-time high across America, the league is going to do everything in its power to prevent an outbreak.

  1. But, but, but I thought only the Raiders were going to get fined because the NFL hates them so much just like the refs that always steal their games. Right, Nation?

  2. So they can tackle each other, lay on each other in a scrum, but dancing is forbidden? Seems legit.

  3. So they let players play on the field without masks but don’t let them undress in the locker room without masks?

  4. It’s a joke, all 32 teams are doing the same thing behind closed doors. The league just picks and chooses which teams get disciplined. Raiders being the first, who could of guessed that.

  5. These policies were negotiated with the union before being put in place. I guess people are OK with players/coaches violating the bargaining agreement. That must mean that when owners violate the bargaining agreement, that is acceptable as well?

  6. The Pats are paranoid about Goodell’s cheating, they are bending over backwards with the protocols. Not surprising.

Goodell will use anything to steal picks. Funny hiow Brady leaves NE and only now is he getting help from Goodell.

  7. I get how teams feel about being picked on by the league.
But just think what the Patriots got hit with. A third round pick because their website hired a street videographer who was filming the backs of the Bengals bench. This was a bit outside his usual gigs of weddings and class reunions.
It was determined that it had nothing to do with football operations – so it was JUST a third rounder.

  8. They are hopefully going to get the snot hammered out of them for that. If they are serious, the NFL has to take a 2nd or 3rd rounder as the saints are repeat offenders…

  9. A Saints player can’t cut a wet fart without scrutiny from the league. Who even cares at this point, take all our draft picks, we’re all YOLO this season anyway.
