PFT’s Week 11 2020 power rankings

USA TODAY Sports

1. Steelers (last week No. 1; 9-0): Many would say the Chiefs are “the better team.” Hopefully, the Chiefs will get a chance to try to prove it in January.

2. Chiefs (No. 2; 8-1): The fact that the Chiefs already have lost to the Raiders once this year makes it far less likely it will happen again.

3. Saints (No. 3; 7-2): It won’t be easy to hold this spot without Drew Brees.

4. Packers (No. 8; 7-2): Imagine barely beating the Jaguars and still climbing into the top five.

5. Dolphins (No. 9; 6-3): They may be the best team in the AFC East. They eventually could be the best team in the AFC.

6. Cardinals (No. 11; 6-3): They may be the best team in the NFC West. They eventually could be the best team in the NFC.

7. Ravens (No. 4; 6-3): Forget about matching 14-2; currently, they need to be concerned about possibly missing the playoffs.

8. Bills (No. 6; 7-3): They need to set this one aside quickly, or one loss will become two.

9. Buccaneers (No. 10; 7-3): We’ll soon find out whether they’re finally ready for prime time.

10. Rams (No. 13; 6-3): The 2018 “it” team has been overlooked for most of the season. Not anymore.

11. Colts (No. 12; 6-3): The up-and-down Colts picked the perfect time to flip the switch.

12. Seahawks (No. 7; 6-3): Russ has burned a couple of perfectly good meals.

13. Titans (No. 5; 6-3): They actually were better when they were distracted by COVID issues.

14. Raiders (No. 14; 6-3): Ground and pound doesn’t really match the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas.

15. Browns (No. 15; 6-3): They should finish 10-6, like 2007. Will that keep them out of the playoffs, like 2007?

16. Vikings (No. 18; 4-5): With the running game not what it’s been, the defense and the passing game surprisingly stepped up.

17. Patriots (No. 23; 4-5): The Terminator isn’t dead until it’s been dismantled, melted down, and turned into a line of wristwatches.

18. Bears (No. 16, 5-5): Bill Walsh could be calling the plays for this offense and it wouldn’t matter.

19. Bengals (No. 19; 2-6-1): It was baptism by blast furnace for Joe Burrow.

20. Falcons (No. 20; 3-6): Suddenly, two of the next three games (against the Saints) aren’t as daunting.

21. Broncos (No. 21; 3-6): At what point does the scrutiny move from coach and quarterback to General Manager?

22. 49ers (No. 22; 4-6): Next year could be special. This year definitely won’t be.

23. Panthers (No. 24; 3-7): Next year could be above average. This year definitely won’t be.

24. Giants (No. 25; 3-6): This year could still be interesting.

25. Eagles (No. 17; 3-5-1): They had two weeks to get ready for the Giants and they did that?

26. Lions (No. 27; 4-5): Does winning the game make up for blowing the 24-point lead?

27. Washington (No. 26; 2-7): At least they have nice uniforms.

28. Texans (No. 28; 2-7): Be careful what you wish for, Jack Easterby.

29. Chargers (No. 29; 2-7): They have the best quarterback in L.A., but it doesn’t matter.

30. Cowboys (No. 30; 2-7): Andy Dalton returns. Will it matter?

31. Jaguars (No. 31; 1-8): They’re good for 1-8. They’re still 1-8.

32. Jets (No. 32; 0-9): Joe Flacco must really love football.

  1. Florio is very anti-Miami. Surprised he put them at 5. As a Dolphins fan I love it. But too early to call us super bowl contenders I think.

  2. As a Rams fan, please put us at 16. I want us to play 2 weeks of consistent football and beat 2 winning teams. I can see us at 11-5 or 9-7 which might put us in the playoffs. However, I need to see it from both sides of the ball, 2 weeks in a row. Carry on.

  3. Miami wins. . . jags,49ers,jets,rams,cards and chargers. Number 5!?!?! and the raiders at #14 with the same record and wins over CHIEFS, saints, panthers, broncos, browns, chargers. . . C’mon man. weak

  4. Saints, Ravens and Dolphins a little too high. Bills should still be ahead of the Dolphins, but behind the Ravens still. Bills came lost to the #6 team on a once in a lifetime hail mary. I would have it Steelers, Chiefs, Packers, Cards, Ravens, Bills, Saints, Dolphins.

  5. Mike is going to finally have to show the Raiders some love after this coming weekend.Raiders are going to take care of business against K.C. Take it to the bank!

  6. Packers are the only team on the list to lose every game when trailing at the end of regulation….let that sink in!

  7. I’m going to come right out and say it’s hard to imagine my Ravens are better than the Bills or the Buccaneers this year. Blame Lamar if you want, and he’s certainly not better than last year, but the real issue is the lack of o-line depth that has been exposed by some injuries. The Ravens don’t currently have a starting-caliber NFL center on their roster. That’s going to be an issue for any QB. That said, Lamar is not elevating his game either. I’d put the Ravens at about 13 or 14 in the league as it currently stands, and that might get worse before the season ends.

  8. Florio must really hate Las Vegas. Two weeks, two wins in a row and they’re still stuck at 14, while he bumps Miami (with the same record) up another four spots into the top 5 and also has the Seahawks, who have lost two in a row, ahead.

  9. The Packers beat the Saints. Drew Brees timetable is uncertain for his return, yet you still keep them at #3 in a -POWER- ranking that is done weekly.

Someone just can’t drop their jealousy towards the Packers and their fans even when doing a weekly Power Ranking that ranks JUST THE PRESENT STRENGTH of rosters and teams.

  10. Fins are playing that well but #5? Not sure. Still this team can improve… and looks like they will. They play KC in a few weeks and that will be the real test to see what’s really needed to make this team whole.

  11. Seahawks schedule gets super soft after this Thursday. I’m sure they’ll climb but could it be a mirage? Yes. Defense is historically inept.

  12. 9 out of the top 15 teams according to this ranking are AFC teams. It’s similar on other sights. AFC championship will play the best two teams in the league.

  13. Seahawks are more like 18-20ish. All time dumpsterfire defense with a dinosaur in game coaching philosophy. Carlton from the Fresh Prince has fallen off a cliff at QB and expect him to have another garbage game Thursday because it will be raining in Seattle.

  14. “4. Packers (No. 8; 7-2): Imagine barely beating the Jaguars and still climbing into the top five.”

Doesn’t make much sense at all when the Packers would lose to the Rams Bucs and Cardinals…

  15. 2. Chiefs (No. 2; 8-1): The fact that the Chiefs already have lost to the Raiders once this year makes it far less likely it will happen again.

    —————

Someone isn’t aware that the law of averages is a fallacy

  16. “Keep sleeping on the Raiders. Can’t even say something positive after a blow out. Typical pft.”

    Bro…it was the BROWNS…..

  17. Talk about bias. Two weeks, two wins in a row and Las Vegas is still stuck at 14, while Miami (with the same record) gets bumped up another four spots into the top 5, and the Seahawks, who have lost two in a row, are also ahead.

  18. How is it possible one top team can give another top team one of its two losses yet be under them in these rankings,if you win in head to head competition and have the same record you should be ahead of them unless the guy doing the ranking has a special place in their heart for that team.

  19. Packers got smoked by the Vikings and barely beat a bad Jags team. Yeah, 4th best team in football sounds about right…Doh’kay

  20. Fins at 5 is a little premature. I don’t want to look past the next three games, but I’m really looking forward to the Chiefs game as a measuring stick to see where they are. I don’t expect them to win that one, but it will be interesting to see how the defense does against Mahomes and Co.

  21. Dolphins at 5 lol. Tagovailoa has 3 starts and the media is falling all over themselves to annoint him as elite. Reality check incoming.

  22. pretty cool to see a 4-5 ranked 16 and another team with the same exact
    record ranked 26

    ___

One team has won 3 straight and the other one has lost three straight. Why is that hard to understand?

  23. Lions at four wins are #26, and the Bengals are a two win team, ranked #19????

Not a fan of either, but come on.. Seriously???

  24. The Dolphins are currently the best team in the AFC.

What a difference a year makes!

    Phins Up!
    Mask On!

  25. Some people questioning how a team that beat another can be ahead of them. Each week the rankings change based on how teams are playing at that moment in time. Just because Team A beat Team B three weeks ago, doesn’t mean they are better. Its based on how teams are playing now.

  26. As a Phins fan I think the #5 ranking is over the top, they should be down around the 7 to 10 range to me. Yes they’ve won 5 in a row but the only significant teams they’ve beaten are the 9rs and the Cards. The Bronco’s this week smells to me like a trap game. But the Phins control their own destiny right now, it’s been quite a few years at the half-way point, we’ve been able to say that in Miami. We do need Christian Wilkins back in the lineup though, our run defense was lacking without him Sunday. And we need our two top RB’s back, Ahmed has done a workman like job but we need multiple 10+ yard runs not just one or two.

  27. Every team loses when trailing at the end of regulation…

  28. Buffalo is the only team in the league with 4 wins against teams with winning records. Out of the 10 games that Buffalo has played, 7 of their opponents post records of 6-3 or better. Miami has 2 wins against winning teams. And oh yeah, the Bills beat the Dolphins. But don’t let facts or statistics get in the way of your gut instincts.

Have you even watched them play the last three weeks? Being ranked fourth is a gift and you’re complaining about it.

    ___________

And one of the 4-5 teams stomped on the other 4-5 team just a week ago.

  33. Once again with feeling, YOU CAN’T have the Saints at #3 IN A POWER RANKING THIS WEEK when Drew is NOT PLAYING.

This ranking is ONLY for today to next Tuesday. It has NOTHING to do with last weeks games or how teams played. A Power Ranking takes in account CURRENT INJURIES, it also takes into account the strength of the whole roster(and PS) as they sit presently.

  34. 16. Vikings (No. 18; 4-5): With the running game not what it’s been, the defense and the passing game surprisingly stepped up.

I’ll give you the passing game against a pretty good Chicago unit. But the defense stepped up? Come on! They were playing the Bears, who don’t consistently move the ball or score on ANYONE.

Packers lost to the Vikings. Does not bode well for the playoffs.

    ——————————

The Packers looked past the Vikings. And the Jaguars. The playoffs are a whole different matter, they won’t be underestimating anyone.

  36. It’s been 4 1/2 years, but Mikey has said something sorta nice about the Rams again.

But then has to take a shot at Goff in the Charger line…Look, Herbert looks great, certainly not like a rookie, but enough already….

  37. The Broncos are now seeing the downside of hiring the historical face of the franchise as GM. Gonna be hard to get out of this gracefully…

  38. Yes, the Dolphins are certainly top 10, but top 5? Really, Mikey? Or are you just saying that to make for the fact that you trashed the Dolphins in 2014 over BullyGate? Oh, and they have to PROVE they are top five by beating out everyone they play from here on in (and will they beat the Chiefs?) and winning AFC East. They can beat Pats in Miami, but can they beat Bills in Buffalo in December? (And has Tua ever played in freezing weather? It doesn’t exactly freeze in Hawaii or Alabama!)

  39. It seems Florio can’t get over being wrong about Derek Carr. They’re still NOT moving on from him. Nothing but bias putting MIA 9 slots ahead of Vegas.

  40. Wow Mike, I know in the past I’ve accused you of not showing the Dolphins any love but you may have swung a little too far with the love this week. Dolphins are not the #5 team in the NFL. I’d say MAYBE top ten but even that would be barely. Appreciate the thought though. Maybe #5 in another month or so.

  41. My Broncos should be tied with the Jets for last. Just a turrible, turrible team! (Quoting Charles Barkley).

  42. The Raiders have by far the best resume out of the 6-3 teams, yet you guys have them ranked 5th of 6th. Keep on hating.

    =================

Seemed like they looked past the 49ers in the playoffs last year.

  44. The Saints are soon going to regret trading Bridgewater. He isn’t just a serviceable backup, he is also a solid starter. Winston and Hill are going to be fighting over which one can play even worse.

  45. jameshodges says:
The Saints are soon going to regret trading Bridgewater.
    ==

They didn’t trade him. He left as an unrestricted free agent.
Teddy Bridgewater wanted a chance to start somewhere, and after signing Drew Brees to a big extension, and slapping a first-round tender on Taysom Hill, the Saints could hardly afford to pay him what he wanted and earned after playing very well last season.
You could argue New Orleans should have cut Brees loose and hitched its wagon to Bridgewater, but I doubt that would have gone over too well with much of the fanbase. Hindsight is always 20/20.

  46. If the Lions had done the RIGHT thing on draft day, the Mammals would have PAID for Tua or he’d be the Lions starter next year. But no. Lions.

  47. With 6 teams at 6-3, will be tough for the Patriots to sneak into the playoffs. it’s possible all 3 teams in the WC could be 10-6 or better. The good news is the Patriots currently have a tiebreak over Oak and Balt, the same number of AFC losses as the teams they haven’t played and a half a tie break against Miami. The Patriots must beat HOU, LAC and NYJ and go at worst 2-2 against ARI, LAR, BUF, MIA to have a chance. Probably they need 3-1 in those 4 games. Tall order to go 6-1 for the rest of the way when you are 4-5, but it’s not impossible yet.

Would love to see the Patriots get in as the 7th seed and have a chance to play spoiler against KC or Pitt on WC weekend.

  48. Miami will fold these last 6 weeks. They’re starting a rookie QB who grew up in Hawaii, played his college ball at Alabama and now plays in Miami.

If Tua doesn’t know now, he soon will….it gets really cold in Denver, New York City and Buffalo this time of year. Bundle up!

  49. The NFC is not strong this year — any of the top couple AFC teams could and will win the SB. Love the comment about the Pack, a professional football team, apparently “sleeping” on the Vikes and the Jags. Good one.

Vegas has Indy at 2.5 point favorites at home against GB. In a fanless league the homefield is about 2 points. I think that spread aligns with your view,

  51. hobbestiger says:
Packers lead the NFC and beat the Saints, but the Saints are higher???
    ==

I’m as big a Packers fan as there is, but you can’t base a power ranking on one game. It’s a cumulative process.
Yes, Green Bay beat New Orleans. It also got manhandled by Tampa Bay, a team that was in turn curb-stomped by the Saints, not once but twice.
A power ranking is supposed to assess not only overall records, but how a team is playing at the moment, and how that relates to the bigger picture. You can’t say the Packers have looked like anything more than a mediocre team the last month after beating a bad Houston team, barely escaping the lowly Jaguars, and suffering bad losses to the Bucs and Vikings.

  52. My Eagle way to high, bottom 3. Doubt they win more than 1 coming in. Sad state of affairs. Rebuild in progress.

  53. Funny how everyone rags on the Packers but nobody comments about Tompa Bay barely escaping the Giants with a win and struggling for most of the game to put away Carolina. They also lost to a bad Bears team.

  54. The chiefs always lose one game they shouldn’t. The Raiders need to realize that’s already happened. The can-o-whoopass will be dropped in the raiders lap Sunday night

  55. The Dolphins haven’t been tested yet.

I don’t see them winning the AFC East, and certainly don’t see them being the best in the AFC anytime soon. I like what they’ve done and Flores is clearly a good coach, but I think it’s more likely they cool off in the last half of the season & find themselves in a dogfight for a WC spot.

  56. They Raiders just won 3 in a row: AT the Browns, AT the Chargers and just destroyed the Broncos despite having endless injuries and a decimated offensive line (The starters have played 3 snaps together this year) and they remain at 14 again?

What do they need to do to impress you? Should they have beaten the Broncos by 35 instead of 25? Get 8 turnovers instead of 5? Rush for 300yds instead of 200? Maybe if they beat the Chiefs again Sunday you’ll bolt them all the way up a spot to #13 next week…

  57. Funny how someone said that the Bucs “struggled” to put the Panthers away. They were tied @ 17 at halftime, but after adjustments came out in the 2nd half to humiliate the cats 29 – 6 to finish with a 46 – 23 curb-stomping. Most teams would love to “struggle” like that every week.

  58. The Cardinals are cute. They will go 3-4 the rest of the year. Screen Cap this if you like. Seattle will go 5-2, the rams will go 3-4. LA and Ariz already had their chance at Wash and the Jets, Seattle hasn’t.

Most of that scoring came very late in the game. It was a 3 point game for a good while in the third quarter. Most of that curb stomping came in the 4th quarter.

GB would lose to #5-31 on this list…

I don’t know about that, however your Vikings DID lose today’s home game to No. 30 on this list. Impressive! 🙂
