The Bengals turned to Ryan Finley at quarterback when Joe Burrow suffered a season-ending knee injury against Washington last Sunday, but they are not expected to give him the start against the Giants in Week 12.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that the team plans to start Brandon Allen. Allen was promoted from the practice squad when Burrow went on injured reserve on Monday.

Allen started three games for the Broncos last season and went 39-of-84 for 515 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions. Those are the only regular season appearances he’s made since entering the league as a Jaguars sixth-round pick in 2016. He also spent time with the Rams while Bengals head coach Zac Taylor was on their staff.

Finley was 3-of-10 for 30 yards after replacing Burrow last week, although the passing game was a net negative since the team lost 31 yards on four sacks. He started three games for the Bengals last season, but it would appear Taylor and company have seen enough of the 2019 fourth-rounder for the time being.

  1. Missing Jake Dolegala right about now, but honestly they need to tank. Get as close to the first pick as possible and if they land #1 they can trade back a pick or 2 for Penei Sewell. Then use the remaining 7 or 8 picks on more linemen.

  2. In my opinion, and I know it probably won’t be agreed upon, Burrow had already progressed significantly this year. Much like you rest your franchise QB when you’ve nailed down the top seed in your conference, I really didn’t think there was any reason or value in Burrow being out there. The positive impact of anything he was liable to do out there would have been minimal at best. All they did was get their QB hurt.

  3. Draft Penei Sewell, buy him a mansion as part of the signing bonus and the dismissal of Jim Turner as offensive line coach is what this team needs. Along with the extradition of Defensive Coordinator Lou Anarumo to Siberia and the removal of Zac Taylor as primary play caller. Yeah start Brendon Arnold at qb or whoever he is, I doubt he makes it to the end of the season. If not, let noodle arm Finley take the rest of season lumps. Taylor is on a short leash next season, don’t even think about giving him an extension, let him be a lame duck so he can feel the fire. That is his penance for putting his franchise qb in harms way with that putrid offensive line. It really says a lot that you can find o-linemen off the waiver wire (Spain) or in the late rounds of the draft (Adenaji 6th round) and plug them in and without even mastering the playbook are an instant upgrade to guys who have been here for years (Hart, Jordan, Johnson and Williams).

  4. I’m not trying to apply any logic to this latest move, but they did earn the number pick last year through incompetence.
