Pete Carroll: I have no place in my brain for this outcome

USA Today Sports

The Seahawks surged at the end of the season, winning six of their last seven games to finish the season 12-4.

But after entering the playoffs with high hopes, they’re out following a 30-20 loss to the Rams.

Seattle head coach Pete Carroll sounded particularly disappointed after the game.

“I told these guys I have no place in my brain for this outcome. We were planning on winning and moving on,” Carroll said, via Curtis Crabtree of Sports Radio 950 KJR and PFT. “So, it’s really frustrating to be done. The suddenness of this is, there’s nothing like it. And you just have to deal with it. And so that’s what we’re gonna do.”

The Seahawks were smothered offensively, finishing 2-of-14 on third down and registering just 11 first downs.

The club will have a long time to think about what could have been over the offseason.

  1. Game plan next year in the playoffs? Cheap shot the starting QB. We’re going for three years straight!

  2. You should have no place on your roster for a 35 million dollar quarterback that gets outplayed by backups and injured mediocre quarterbacks.

  3. “We were planning on winning and moving on.” Yeah, that’s not a good look for a coach to admit that that mindset was accepted, much less encouraged

  4. At least the city of Seattle didn’t have to waist a portion of their depleted police budget, paying OT to cops!

  5. It sounds from his own statement like they blew this game off and were already thinking about the divisional round. That’s what happened, Pete.

  6. Seattle ‘surged the last 6 weeks of the season’ against Philly, Giants(loss), Jets, WFT, Rams and Niners. Not exactly murderers row, some of those games were close and they got flat out handled by a so so Rams team today with Goof and his stitched up thumb at QB.

I give Seattle credit for their typical playoff appearances year in and out but they are a quick exit otherwise. Russ is being wasted.

Oh, and Metcalf is right on schedule as a ‘diva’ with his ‘frustration’ 2 years in. Do something first dude.

  7. Just wait until Russell demands a contract in the $40M/year range because the $35M/year average isn’t good enough anymore. They’d be better off doing something to shore up that defense. It’s terrible and has been most of the year.

Their game against niners was close despite playing against a 3rd string QB and bunch of backups.
I’ll name Carroll as the caller of the worst play in history of NFL. He should be fired.

  9. Overlooking an opponent can happen in the regular season, and a good coach looks out for that. Playoffs?…That’s unacceptable. Time to retire old man.

  10. “We were planning on winning and moving on,”

I can’t believe an NFL head coach said that.

  11. Seahawks OL couldn’t stand up to the Rams DL. The loss of Aaron Donald gave them some hope but not enough. The Ram offense have to play better or their chances of advancing further is slim. The wear and tear of having to carry their offense caught up to Wilson. He just couldn’t pull off enough of the dynamic plays we’ve come to expect from him to pull off a comeback. I was one of the idiots who thought that big contract he got was wasted. As it turned out, he wasn’t and isn’t one of the ones overpaid.

  12. Not a fan of either team.
I don’t understand Russell Wilson. Superman some games, Clark Kent others.

  13. Any peewee coach would have known to stuff the line, take away the r7n and dare the Rams to throw.

Good thing Petes smarter than everyone else.

Poor coaching and even worse quarterback play. The Seagulls are a joke.

  14. I haven’t seen anyone rush Wilson like that. Pounded him all day, rarely let him escape the pocket, even drilled him on that play where he normally tip toes out of bounds.

  15. john schneider is incompetent in drafting. Oline-Pete gave the team. the Giants speech they were flat coming out. and they know they have to get DK going fast and of course they did not

  16. I remember a few seasons ago when we didn’t find out that Wilson had played the last half of a season injured, without revealing the injury during the season

I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the case again this year

For all those who think it’s a coincidence Seattle has had winning seasons every year Wilson has been on the team, and it’s a good idea to get rid of Wilson (who has never missed a game, and missed only a single snap)…

Without Wilson, you’ve got a 4-12 team, not a 12-4 team. Get Wilson an actual offensive line, and he’ll win the Super Bowl every year

  17. The Seahawks haven’t been the same since the NFL very quietly stopped them from pumping noise through the public address system a few years ago.

  18. Wrap your head around it, Pete

Another year older for Russ. When he’s done, this team will hit the bottom.

Now you and your cheap shot artist can go have a cigar and watch the rest of the playoffs from home.

  19. Metcalf’s temper tantrum had me rolling during the game. As the famous Bobby Heenan would say “Million dollar body, 10 cent mind”

  20. Here’s an idea for you pete get an offensive line to block! Run the ball first! Until you do how about a screen once an a while or some short outlet passes to keep the rush off Russ.

  21. Oh, and Metcalf is right on schedule as a ‘diva’ with his ‘frustration’ 2 years in. Do something first dude.

The “frustration” is right on schedule.

Next is the “slap in the face”.

    Concluded by “outrage”.
