Report: Brian Daboll staying in Buffalo in 2021

Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll looked like he might become the head coach of the Chargers before Los Angeles hired Brandon Staley for the job on Sunday.

Daboll also interviewed with the Jets, who hired Robert Saleh.

Only two jobs remain open, and neither the Texans nor the Eagles appear to have Daboll high on their list of candidates. So Daboll, despite his connections with Texans General Manager Nick Caserio and executive vice president of football operations Jack Easterby, will remain in Buffalo in his current role for 2021, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

That’s good news for Josh Allen and the Bills, who are playing in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday. With another year in Buffalo with Allen, Daboll could become the hot candidate in the next hiring cycle.

The Texans are interviewing Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy and Ravens assistant head coach David Culley on Monday. They interviewed Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier and Staley on Sunday.

  1. Very disappointed that the Eagles wouldn’t even interview the guy. They better get Eric Bieniemy.

  2. Chargers watched the bills run the ball three straight times and punt against the colts defense and said… “lol we’re all set”

  3. Daboll wasn’t interested in the Eagles and who the hell would want the Texans job right now?

Chargers backing out with the obscure hire with a blossoming Herbert was the end of Daboll leaving Buffalo.

  4. Typical Chargers move. I mean if you have a potential superstar quarterback in Justin Herbert, why in the world would you want to hire the coach who turned Josh Allen into an elite, MVP quarterback when instead you can hire the defensive coach who Aaron Rodgers just made look silly last Saturday?
As a Bills fan I’m estatic because it will be awesome to see Coach Daboll win his second consecutive Super Bowl with the Bills next year!

  5. “Daboll wasn’t interested in the Eagles”

Daboll wouldn’t hesitate to take the Eagles job if offered. He wants to be a head coach.

  6. No offense to the Eagles but leaving a team with a bright future that’s about to play in the CG for a team where the owner might have told his last head coach to throw the final game of the season right before firing him isn’t exactly a dream head coaching opportunity.

  7. Remember Josh Allen’s rookie season when everyone thought he was a bust?
Daboll was the OC then. Remember last season when Allen wasn’t really that much better than his rookie season?
Daboll was there for that too.
Now that Allen has improved his efficiency & accuracy, everyone is falling all over themselves to credit Daboll with that improvement. i don’t know if Daboll & Allen spent the whole off-season working on his accuracy issues.
I would pump the brakes on thinking that Daboll is a QB guru. An imaginative play-caller, yes.

  8. I think the league needs to change the rules so that no interviews can take place until after the super bowl.
