The betting markets think the Rams put themselves in great shape to win the Super Bowl by acquiring Matthew Stafford, while the Lions waved the white flag on the 2021 season by accepting Jared Goff and a bunch of future draft picks.

The Rams’ odds to win next year’s Super Bowl surged after the trade at several sports books, while the Lions’ odds sank.

The Rams had been at 18/1 to win next year’s Super Bowl, which ranked them tied for eighth in the NFL, at SportsBetting.com. Now the Rams are at 10/1, which ranks them third, behind only the Chiefs (6/1) and Buccaneers (9/1).

The Lions, meanwhile, have plummeted from 80/1 all the way to the bottom of the board at 150/1.

Stafford never won a playoff game with the Lions. If the odds are to be believed, there’s a great chance that a year from now, Stafford will be preparing to play in the Super Bowl with the Rams.

  1. Can you wager the Rams won’t even make the playoffs? I’m not gambling man, but based on Stafford’s record and health issues, that’s were I would like to lay my bet.

  2. Goff did not lose the playoff game to the Packers the defense did. I dont get why this propels them to third favorite. As far as the trade I am not sure who got the better end of the deal.

  3. Not sure if this is a nod to Stafford’s considerable skills, that were wasted in Detroit, or a monumental indictment of Goff’s play for the Rams.

    ____

Stafford has not missed a game in 9 of the last 10 seasons. As for his record, has he had any help at all on that team? How many OTHER Lions players can you name off the top of your head in the last 10 years….I can name 2, Calvin Johnson and Suh.

Also Jim Schwartz, Jim Caldwell, and Matt Patricia??? Not a very good list of HC’s either

He plays through injuries, most of them nagging types. He has been pretty productive considering his supporting cast.

Is he the saving grace for the Rams? Who knows? But he is certainly an upgrade over Goff. If the defense and running game can match last years effectiveness, the Rams will be better next year.

  5. Anybody even Mahomes can lose in the first playoff game, wild card or divisional. It’s asinine to think the odds about SB. Its any given sunday. Ask Aaron Rodgers

  6. All Stafford ‘had’ was Calvin Johnson. Yeah, Like Calvin is a ok player. Megatron is a Hall of Fame WR.
