Matthew Judon threatens to leak photos of a reporter in a strip club

Most NFL stories have similar content, structure, flow. Some don’t.

This is one of them.

Via Andrew Bucholtz of AwfulAnnouncing.com, Ravens linebacker Matthew Judon has taken issue with the reporting of Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com. Judon’s ire has manifested itself in a specific and pointed threat.

Judon vowed on social media to take specific action against Hensley if Hensley doesn’t apologize for something Hensley reported.  “I’m waiting on your ESPN sourced apology or I’m leaking these photos I got with you in the strip club,” Judon said.

The report from Hensley doesn’t seem to justify the extreme reaction from Judon. Hensley reported that the Ravens offered Judon a long-term deal in the range of $16.5 million annually and that Judon declined.

The timing of the offer isn’t clear. Since Judon was franchise-tagged in 2020, and because the Ravens and Judon didn’t reach a long-term deal before July 15, the window closed on any multi-year contract after after the end of the season. As one source explained it to PFT, the rules prohibit not only reaching a deal but also negotiating one. (The language of the CBA doesn’t expressly prohibit negotiations on a long-term deal after July 15, but it’s clear that no extension can be finalized until after the season.)

Regardless of whether the Ravens did or didn’t or could or couldn’t make a long-term offer to Judon, it doesn’t seem like the kind of thing that should have prompted the player to go straight to the nuclear option. It’s not an ideal look for Judon as he approaches free agency, absent a new deal with the Ravens or the franchise tag, again.

Judon’s agent, J.R. Roggio, respectfully declined comment. Neither ESPN nor the Ravens had responded to a request for comment at the time this item was posted.

  1. There has to be more to this story. They must have some sort of personal history that will probably come out.

  2. Don’t know why he just doesn’t put the photos out, regardless.
But to be fair, no one knows who this reporter is. The only one who may be concerned is his wife. If that’s the case, Judon may as well straight-up blackmail this guy.

  3. This is one strange story. In January Hensley reported that Judon’s seeking a deal in the $20M range. He’s mad because the guy reported that? Doesn’t seem inflammatory to me. I’m sure he turned down the contract because he can’t feed his family on $16.5M/yr. Also, why should the reporter care about pictures of him at a strip club and how exactly did he get those pictures? Was Judon there? Seems childish to me.

Also, it’s bad timing to be asking for that much money in a year in which the cap has dropped. He should also look at what happened with Clowney and Ngakuoue who wanted $20M/yr. Judon will likely demand that and then after all the money has been spent he’ll be lucky to get the kind of deal Clowney got with the Titans….especially for a guy who had 61 tackles and 6 sacks.

  4. Isn’t this an example of extortion?? (Do what I want or I will hurt you by doing “x”). Maybe you guys know a lawyer who can explain why this threat from Judon either is, or isn’t, legal…

  5. I can’t wait to get this overrated, loud mouth, malcontent out of Baltimore. Someone will overpay for him and be disappointed. Not a legit edge threat. Product of the system, that’s it. And you have to deal with absolutely moronic things coming from his mouth every few weeks.

  6. We all know it’s a false report because nobody in their right mind would offer anywhere near that kind of money for Judon.

  7. But if he’s caught in the stripe club without a mask then the “reporter” can post and repost all the pictures all day long…hypocrisy?

  8. He would just be reporting the news. Seems like reporters don’t like being under the microscope that the players live under.

  9. Hell yeah, good for him. These reporters and their “sources” always report the bad crap on players before all the truth is known. I applaud him, time for some payback..

  10. Reporters leaked photos of Haskins at a strip club and it cost him his job have to expect the reverse to happen in retaliation. There’s more to this story than we know.

  11. This is really bizarre.

So a guy was in a strip bar? Shocking. And Judson just said he was there? But he’s going to really expose him by “leaking” pictures of him in the strip club? Umm… that’s not “leaking”. That’s just sending them out. You “leak” things secretly.

Not the sharpest knife in the drawer. And dollars to donuts his posse were the ones who floated this ill conceived scheme.

  12. Not hard to tell who in the comment section actually read the article and who only read the headline.

  13. Spend more time reporting on athletes performance, rather than their salary. Plus by always dropping lines you make the process very political, let the team and player negotiate. Honestly the reporter should have minded his own business until it was official. Trying to make a name for himself at someone else’s expense. Why don’t the reporters blab about their personal salaries to the world, so we can criticize you guys and tell you to your face that you’re not worth your salary. It’s no fun when the rabbit has a gun too!

  14. Please don’t sign this bum to a long term deal. All he does is get one hand on the quarterback and let him go. Must be all the Taco Bell he eats.

Not really. In the time we live right now with social distancing it could be him in the strip club without a mask and depending on his contract with espn or his interactions at work it could range from just public shaming from fans to breach of contract and firing.

  16. This is super bizarre, besides the somewhat telling fact that neither his agent nor the Ravens have disputed the report.

I mean I wouldn’t be interested in the 52nd ranked edge defender at anywhere near those prices anyway…but big red flag here.

  17. Plot twist — the photos are of the reporter WORKING at the strip club!! (Sarcasm)…

I don’t think this guy knows how blackmail works, you don’t State the that publicans because then everyone knows the other guy only did what he did because of your threat. Judon didn’t seem like the brightest bulb.

  18. “Reporters leaked photos of Haskins at a strip club and it cost him his job have to expect the reverse to happen in retaliation. There’s more to this story than we know.”

Reporters did not “leak” photos of Haskins. Rather, they reported his presence there, including photographic evidence. And those reports did not cost Haskins his job. Haskins own decision to attend the strip club led to the consequences he incurred.

  19. Everything I have seen shows Hensley taking the high road — offering Judon to correct what he has reported: I will definitely add your response to the piece

  20. Unless the reporter is married, who cares if he went to a strip club? And if he is married, that’s an issue between he and his wife.

  21. Sooo….now it’s illegal to go see the dancing girls. We sure do have a strange relationship with sex in this country.

  22. It is unclear what exactly the reporter is supposed to apologize for? If it untrue that the Ravens offered a long-term deal last summer for $16.4 million/year, then Judon can either simply say it is untrue, or he can disclose the actual amount, or even better just ignore the whole thing.

BTW, Judon’s salary last year under the tag was $16.8 million, as reported by Tom Pelissero of NFL Media in May 2020.

  23. Well, the strip club was not in Baltimore, because according to an article in the local paper yesterday, they have not permitted such activity here since the COVID restrictions started last Spring.

  24. Wow, a whole lot of false analogies in these comments. No, this Judon thing isn’t the same as a reporter telling a story, with a photo, about a player in a strip club. The difference is the extortion element. The reporter does the story, period. S/he doesn’t tell the player hey, give me something or I’ll run the story. Geez, it’s not hard to see the difference.

  25. Reporters leaked photos of Haskins at a strip club and it cost him his job have to expect the reverse to happen in retaliation. There’s more to this story than we know.

Oh, I think there is FAR MORE to Haskins than the strip club thing. What was he, 15th pick overall, and gone after 2 years. QB position? Give me a break. I’d say a litany of things.

  26. I can see it coming. We’re going to get a little backstage argument, then it will spill out into the arena where they both get in the ring arguing with microphones in front of the crowd, Judon throws his mic down and body slams Hensley. Hensley’s squad of reporters run to him in defense. All on the next episode of Smackdown NFL edition.

  27. Wait… so why is it okay that Matthew was at the club, but then bad that Jamison was? Also… who takes a picture of random people in random locations in the apparent hope of using it to blackmail them one day? This says so much about Matthew, and almost nothing bad about Jamison. It’s like shooting yourself in the foot to spite him.

  28. Well, the strip club was not in Baltimore, because according to an article in the local paper yesterday, they have not permitted such activity here since the COVID restrictions started last Spring.

    ===================================

Jamison Hensley has been reporting on Baltimore football for years. Covid has only been going on for a year.

  29. I actually hink this is a great idea and we should do it across the media baord. They can do it – why cant we?

  30. Oh my god, not a strip club! Unless those pics are like the ones at the end of the Hangover who gives a damn?

  31. It was clearly a joke. Tongue in Cheek sort of a threat. Judon cannot be serious about this. Everyone is taking him literally. Hensley in a strip club??? I don’t think so.

  32. “I’d be more embarrassed to work for ESPN, but that’s just my opinion.”

You’d be lucky to work anywhere, including ESPN.

  33. “Matt, come on man, I appreciate you making it rain while I was sliding down the pole, but I was serious when I said no flash photography, it gets me out of my groove. C’mon man!”

I agree. No doubt Judon is upset but I certainly don’t take him serious as others are, it is just too bizarre.

  35. just another example of the crap that social media creates – this post is the closest I come to social media

  36. Extortion aside, as long as the reporter is an adult it is legal for him/her to go to a strip club. There is no story there.

  37. The only person that looks bad in this entire thing is Judon. Looks like a petulant child. The reporter responded to his tweet in an extremely professional manner, but thats not good enough for Judon. These players are getting more and more ridiculous but the culture we live in today allows them to get away with it. This guys a good player, not great, but his juice aint worth the squeeze. Hope he ends up in Houston.

  38. Going to a strip club is illegal now? If going to the club is bad for your career then 75% of the NFL (and the rest of the male U.S. population is in trouble)…Definitely a “Richard” move though threatening a reporter though, even if he does work for the ESPN tabloid company.
