Russell Wilson‘s clamoring for more help along the offensive line in Seattle is only going to be heightened now that the Arizona Cardinals have added J.J. Watt to their defensive line.

Wilson already had to see Aaron Donald twice a season for the last seven years with the Los Angeles Rams. Now Watt is teaming up with standout pass rusher Chandler Jones in Arizona to bring more firepower to the NFC West. While Jones is excited to have Watt join him on the Cardinals defensive line, Jones expressed some sympathy toward Wilson in what he has to face in the division.

Also feel bad for my guy RW3 lol,” Jones said in a tweet.

Of the last nine winners of the NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award, six of them are split between Watt and Donald. Wilson is now going to have to spend a quarter of his season in Seattle squaring off against teams featuring Watt and Donald. Then add in Jones, who had 19 sacks for Arizona in 2019 and was runner-up to Stephon Gilmore for the player of the year award.

Jones has sacked Wilson 14.5 times in 10 career games against Wilson, including Super Bowl XLIX with the New England Patriots. Donald has sacked Wilson 15 times in 15 games, including January’s playoff victory over the Seahawks.

Watt may not be his peak self anymore, but paired with Jones he could still be a big problem for Seattle.

  1. A big problem for everyone…Seattle won the SUperbowl with a defense that was tops…but also a solid OL. The Jimmy Graham trade where they lost their center (Was he a Pro-bowl Center that year) was mistake I think.

  2. I’m gonna feel bad for Chandler Jones when the Cardinals finish in 4th in the division next season.

  3. I feel sorry for Cardinals fans as their GM has no idea what he is doing. He is just making the team old during a time when they should be building. They will be cleaning house with a new front office, coach and QB very soon.

  4. Add (back) Hassan Reddick + Bosa the Clown in San Fran, and I can understand why an older Russell (whose career is defined by that interception) wants out.

  5. Watt is still in his prime. However with terrible DBs and no real threat on the other side, week in and week out, his sack totals fell. If he plays 14 games or more, I predict 15 sacks, 3 fumble recoveries, and 1 TD.
Arizona has great young talent across the board. They remind me of the Rams 3 years ago.

  6. Lol…Watt will be injured before he ever gets a chance to sack Wilson…the man is only cashing checks at this point…

  7. Arizona having a defense like the Rams. Love the NFC West. Bring it on.

  8. Except both Jones and Watt are both on the wrong side of 30 and production has fallen off the cliff.

Watt has only 5 sacks in 16 games and Jones 1 sack in 5 games last year. Not exactly frightening stuff anymore.

  9. Although he’s coming off an ACL reconstruction, Nick Bosa is no slouch either. He’ll be chasing Russell twice a season also.

  10. Is Jones going to be able to be retained by the Cardinals at his cap number? Has that been discussed?

  11. Another old guy on a last place team chasing RW around….at $40M a year, he’ll deal with it

  12. Why would anyone pay this money for a player on the downside and has not played a full year how many times. Yet Steelers QB is being beat up for having do 19 million. Hello sports writers where are you now.

  13. Russ was asked a few years ago what team he dreaded playing and it was the Rams. Who could blame him? They have averaged 10 sacks per season on him in his entire career.

  14. No, Russ probably loves it because it’ll give him more opportunities to run the ball.

Every team in that division is trash. Just look at their schedules from last year.
