Tight end Levine Toilolo signed a two-year deal with the Giants last year and he’s reworked it in order to stick with the team for the 2021 season.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Toilolo has agreed to a restructured contract with the team. The details of the restructure were not part of the report, but Toilolo was set to make a base salary of $2.95 million before reworking his deal and that number will surely go down.

Toilolo had five catches for 46 yards while appearing in all 16 games last season. He previously played for the 49ers, Lions, and Falcons.

The Giants also have Evan Engram and Kaden Smith at tight end. Engram is heading into the final year of his contract.

  1. Most of us Giants fans thought that he was an automatic cut. In a year where we have almost now cap room we bring this guy back. Unreal.

  2. If he is only getting about veteran minimum then the cap savings that can be used on FA is only about $300K more than if they released him.

I was excited when they signed him because I envisioned passing more out of 12-personel and early downs with Toilolo in pass protection (his strength) and Barkley running pass routes (his strength). So Barkley’s injury reduced the usefulness of having a blocking TE like Toilolo.

The Giants have three TE on the roster, and one of them can’t block, catch, run routes, or stay healthy. Asking Toilolo to take a pay cut was not an awful move.

Cutting Cody Core sucks, but he was an expensive player to have only play special teams. I’m anxiously waiting to see Nate Solder’s name on the cut list next. I would also like to see them trade Engram for literally anything. Who’s the guy on the Saints that always gets people to punch him in his face for stealing their mouthguards? Or the guy on the Packers that got the holding penalty that lost the NFCCG? I’m trading Engram for either of them.
