Trent Brown is on the move, from Las Vegas to New England.

Brown, the Pro Bowl offensive tackle, is being traded from the Raiders to the Patriots, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The deal includes Brown agreeing to rework his contract, which previously had two years and $19.25 million left on it. On the new deal, Brown will play one year in New England before hitting free agency in 2022.

There’s no word on what the Patriots are sending to the Raiders in the deal.

This will be Brown’s second trade to New England; the Patriots previously traded for him in 2018 after he had spent his first three seasons in the league with the 49ers. Brown started every game at left tackle for the Patriots in 2018 but then left in free agency and signed with the Raiders in 2019.

The 27-year-old Brown played in just five games in 2020, missing time on the reserve/COVID-19 list and having to go to the hospital after a mishap with an IV in the locker room. Now he’ll head back to New England, where he played some of his best football, and where the Patriots hope he can stay healthy in 2021.

  1. When healthy he was very good but just couldnt stay on the field sadly. His weight seemed to have ballooned to what he used to look like

Sure he’ll do well for the Pats, shame it didnt work out with the Raiders

  2. We all new this divorce was in the making, Brown had problems staying healthy and lost trust of the medical team on the Raiders,Brown did fleece us with making huge money and not giving 100% on a daily basis. I believe Chucky and Mayock will spend large in free agency and rebuild the mangled Defence and offensive line through both draft and free agency. Look for even more cuts that have not worked out to get right with Raider Fan and Raider Nation to make us happy—Enough is enough with the Playoff drought.

  3. What this means is bye Joe Thuney. Isiah Wynn gets kicked inside to guard and Michael Onwenu backs up both Wynn and Brown.

  4. A late round pick to get rid of his contract is probably worth it. Great player but you can’t count on him.

  5. The Pats have a history of bringing players back and having them revitalize their careers. Trent Brown was a monster in his previous stint with the team. Welcome back to the team that developed Tom Brady.

  6. Wow…our O Line is now in disarray. Hope you can address both sides of the ball in the draft and free agency! What the hell is going on in the Sin City?!!!

  7. Glad to see him go! Lazy and overrated! Be careful Brown with that lingering calf muscle,it flares up continuously.

  8. Sounds good he played his best ball as a patriot looked like one of the best oline men in the nfl. will be glad to have him back in the fold.

  9. Best RT in football when in shape, motivated and not suffering an injury… So not often!!

  10. Gotta protect Cam’s blind side so he can keep slinging for 50 yards / game in 2021

  11. Time will tell, but he played well the first time the Pats had him.

    He is HUGE.

  12. Good deal for the Pats. They paid him nothing the 1st time around and the Raiders paid him nearly 40 mill the last 2 years to just come back on a reduced deal.

  13. He lost his heart to play after he got payed …over weight out of shape and lazy its to bad because he’s a solid player (if he wants to be) glad the Raiders got a draft pick for him>

  14. I sense a shift in the force towards the dark side. Darth Belichick has struck again. Stunning how da Raiders keep giving fantastic players to Patriots for next to nothing.

  15. He played the best because he had the best coach in Scarnecchia. Like 99% of the world I can care less about the Pats, but curious to see how he plays now that he is back there. As the case with Brady and Bill, was it player or coach?

  16. who is behind center for the big Trent to protect?

“Having no particular plan at the most important position in pro sports calls into question the preparedness. Thinking Brady was almost out of gas then seeing him win the Super Bowl calls into question the wisdom. And hiding under the desk calls into question the accountability.”

30 year patriots fan, thank God for the 20 year run, but frustrated now with no apparent accountability at the patriot place

  17. So now, thuney FOR SURE is gone. We should still try to tag and trade him, to keep him from Miami, Houston, Jets. I would also assume cannon is retiring or getting cut which would give us another 7.5 million towards the CAP.

  18. Having a one year deal works into Belichick’s compensatory draft formula. Even if the last year has no guaranteed money, if you cut him, it doesn’t count towards the formula. If he plays well, they can offer an extension.

  19. I think a logical deduction is Cannon gets cut, Thuney walks, Brown takes right tackle, and Onwenu takes LG. It’s a pretty good o-line.

  20. classic BB…buy low, sell high (got 3rd round compensatory pick when he left)…wait for value to drop again, buy low…again. brown is good when he tries (contract year!) and will likely be good for the Pats & get them another compensatory pick last year.

  21. I guess this was a move that had to be made, but I wish we’d gotten more than a fifth-round pick for him. Now we go from having to worry strictly about the defense to having to plug holes in the o-line as well.

Good move for Raiders. Guy couldn’t stay healthy, and was out of shape

Good move? He wasn’t that way in NE when he played for peanuts and won a ring.

Your team wasted milliions for 2 years for no reason. Mayock and Gruden are horrible.

Onwenu was one of the steals of the draft. He was their best OLineman. He’s not backing up anyone. He’ll likely be moved to his natural guard position

  24. I think the Raiders line last year was decent even with all the shuffling – which probably gave them confidence that they could have similar production with lest cost. The way they’ve been dumping salary makes me think they may be pretty active in the FA market on the defensive side.
But you have to wonder about Gruden and Mayock’s ability to evaluate players at this point if they are wasting cap space on players that underproduce.

  25. The draft is on Mayock. He sucks at that as well. Sorry this tandem is garbage.

  26. He looked a lot better when he was blocking for Brady….. except Brady isn’t there anymore. Looks like checkers is back on the menu, boys.

Depends on what happens with Marcus Cannon, If he’s back, he’s in the lead for RT with Trent Brown back at LT, and Isiah Wynn at LG. Unless Cannon is released Onwenu is backing up the left side. Agree he’s good, but not over Wynn, Cannon or Shaq Mason.

  28. Everyone seems worried about filling Brown’s spot on the Raiders line. They did just fine without him for 11 games last year.

Speaking of wasting millions….how many games with Isaiah Wynn play this year?

  30. While he did help the Patriots win Super Bowl LIII in the 2018 season, this is a “what have you done” recently league. He couldn’t stay on the field for the Raiders. This guy is just like Isaiah Wynn; he’s made of glass.

    Um…nope.

    Wynn @ LT
    Onwenu @ LG
    Brown @ RT

    Or

    Brown @ LT
    Wynn @ LG
    Onwenu @ RT

    Bye Cannon

No. This is a move to make sure Jimmy Garoppolo stays healthy enough to last the season.

  33. Remember when it felt like players hit the lottery when they got sent to the Patriots? Seems so long ago now…

  34. How is this a good trade for the Raiders? They shouldn’t be giving up Brown AND a draft pick swap. They should have traded him for the 5th rounder, period. Why do they let this happen?

    Bye Cannon

    Scenario #1 may work in Madden, but in the real world, Brown is no RT so uhm no;

Scenario #2 only happens if Cannon is cut/is a cap casualty. As things stand now, he isn’t so Onwenu (no doubt a good player) is a versatile backup for 21, possible starter in 22.
