Will Antonio Brown stay put or move on?

As the Buccaneers keep a large part of the band together, a key in-season arrival remains available.

Receiver Antonio Brown, one of the best receivers in football until his career went and stayed sideways two years ago, got his life under control in 2020, served an eight-game suspension, and became a key contributor down the stretch for the Buccaneers, ultimately winning his first Super Bowl ring.

With receiver Chris Godwin staying put thanks to the franchise tag and other competent pass-catchers on the roster like Mike Evans, Scotty Miller, and Tyler Johnson, the question becomes whether another team will decide to dangle for Brown a more secure spot on the depth chart — and the money that would go along with it.

He showed in 2020 that he indeed has better angels and that there’s a way to speak to them. The question is whether Tom Brady is the only person who currently knows the language.

Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has clamored for Brown in the past, as has Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson. The Packers reportedly poked around the idea of signing Brown last year before he did his deal in Tampa Bay.

Brown has kept a very low profile since the Buccaneers won the Super Bowl early last month. He hasn’t gotten in trouble in months. He deserves credit for getting things under control.

The question is whether he thinks he deserves more money and a greater role than what he had in Tampa last year. Although a civil lawsuit alleging sexual assault and rape is still pending, trial won’t happen until December. The possibility that he’ll give sworn pre-trial deposition testimony that (based on his antics in a lawsuit filed over an apartment he allegedly trashed several years back) could turn embarrassing at best and disastrous at worst makes a long-overdue settlement of the claim even more advisable.

All things considered, it will be interesting to see whether some other team becomes intrigued by Brown’s unexpected run of good behavior and considers giving him a bigger profile and role than the Bucs possibly will be able to offer.

  1. He’d be smart to take a lesser deal to remain in Tampa and win another Super Bowl.

  2. He got his ring.
He wants to get PAID now. Lots & lots of legal bills, you know.

  3. The truth about Antonio Brown is that he makes both Godwin and Evans better due to the attention he requires. If Tampa Bay does not offer him enough money he will most likely split and catch passes from Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers in my view is still the best QB in the NFL and Brown lost a lot of money misbehaving. Brown could help Rodgers and Green Bay get to the Super Bowl!

  4. Brown’s unexpected run of good behavior ”
Are we forgetting last years incident with the security guard (shack) at his gated residence.

  5. Brady will have the team funnel money through his TB12 foundation in order to pay brown under the table. The scam brady is pulling off is clear as day and has been going on his entire career and yet no investigation by Goodell whatsoever. A true disgrace.

  6. He needs to show stability. Another year in Tampa and possibly another ring will translate into tens of millions of dollars in his next contract.

  7. I don’t know that there will be a lot of interest. With Brady around he was a model citizen, but nobody else has Brady. His career is still in rehab and he isn’t a kid anymore. He probably should stay with the Bucs on a 1 year with a modest raise. Maybe for 2022 he could grab a decent contract after refurbishing his rep somewhat and close things out with some fairly decent money to ride off into the sunset with.

  8. I will sign a new deal and get myself cut.

    Regards,

Antonio – see TO at the hall in a few years.

  9. He was a non-factor in the Bucs SuperBowl run, but he’ll cry like a baby and convince someone to overpay.

  10. I hope he resigns with Tampa, can’t wait to see what he can do with a full offseason, back in full football shape, and more time to work in that offense. Evans/Godwin/AB are gonna be scary next year, not to mention Gronk/Brate peaked and now OJ is coming back!

  11. Nit sure any team would pick him up. He still has a trial hanging over his head. Think it’s scheduled for later this year.

  12. The NFL has ALWAYS proven that Talent and skill are more important than personality and character. Boom or bust signing with. Good luck, but I wouldn’t touch em’.

  13. Brown is the least valuable F/A Tampa has. Both Miller and Johnson deserves more snaps. Both are potential stars in the making. The only thing Brown has is Brady liking to throw to him. However both Miller and Johnson have proved they can make tuff catches from Brady. I think it will depend on what Brady thinks and wants.

  14. If my Ravens sign him it’ll be a disaster. He won’t ever get the ball and he’ll complain like crazy even if we go 16-0 (which obviously won’t happen).

Wow. You can’t even make this kind of stuff up unless you are completely unmoored from reality. You must be a big fan of Q, flat Earth, and election fraud.

Lol. Hoping your guy could be bragged if Brees wasn’t in front of him any more? Brown is already playing with the best qb in the NFL and Rogers isn’t even second best either.

——/ Brees just helped the Saints by reducing his salary from 20 mil to league minimum circumventing the salary cap, his single workout tape the smoke and mirrors to make it appear he was returning, we ALL knew he already had the deal with NBC. MONTHS AND MONTHS AGO.

Nice try junior, do you also believe in unicorns?

  18. As the season progressed, he became more and more a part of the final product. I think they prefer him over Scotty Miller, who can be counted on to catch a couple long passes pe game, but little more. The guy is almost like an extra wide receiver coach, from all the blurbs I read

He contributed too. All those guys had bearing on how it came together. Defenses being unable to key on other receivers was huge all by itself.

  20. He’d be smart to stay in Tampa. I doubt many other teams want him at this point. But, we are talking about AB so who knows what he’s going to do. Moving companies beware.
