With center David Andrews electing to explore free agency, the Patriots have brought back a familiar face.

Ted Karras will sign with New England on a one-year deal worth $4 million, according to multiple reports.

Karras was a Patriots sixth-round pick in 2016. He served as New England’s starting center in 2019 when Andrews missed the year due to blood clots in his lungs.

Karras signed a one-year deal with Miami last March and was the club’s starting center for all 16 games in 2020.

In all, Karras has appeared in 76 games with 36 starts since entering the league.

  1. I’ll take it. A good insurance policy in case whichever interior lineman they draft isn’t any better.

  2. Karras is a pretty good player who wanted a chance to be a full time starter, got it in Miami, played well enough to start the entire season, but the ‘fins did not want him back.

I do not get it. The ‘fins are unceremoniously letting pretty good high character vet players who are not that expensive like Van Noy and Karras, walk. Strange. Vet players of high character may ve the exception in the NFL.

  3. As has already been commented, hopefully this doesn’t mean Andrews is gone. In any case, I don’t think this is a depth move. I honestly think Belichick would be fine going into the season with Karras as his starter. Karras actually played quite well in 2019 and if the Pats weren’t comfortable with the notion of him being forced back into that role, they wouldn’t have brought him back for a 2nd go around.

  4. After all the money spent on free agents, I’m disappointed the Patriots did not take care of Andrews

  5. I agree. I think Andrews is gone and they draft a center, which they’ve historically been very good at.

  6. Really solid player nice fall back option with Andrew’s looking to break the bank. I prefer a center with more beef this online looks to be very big and athletic also.
