The Dolphins have found a new center.

After Ted Karras agreed to a one-year deal with the Patriots on Wednesday, the Dolphins have replaced him with former Raven Matt Skura.

Skura’s agent, David Canter, told NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo the deal is for one year.

Skura had been Baltimore’s starting center since 2018, but was benched late in 2020 following a string of bad snaps. He ended up starting 12 games for the Ravens last season, playing 64 percent of the club’s offensive snaps.

Patrick Mekari took over as the starting center for the rest of the year.

Skura suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 12 of the 2019 season, tearing his ACL, MCL, and PCL. But he was back for Week 1 in 2020.

  1. Which means they will be drafting a center in April. I could see Creed Humphrey in a Dolphin uniform.

  2. This offseason has been a joke for Miami! The Dolphins have to hit big in the draft just to compete in their own division. The history on that has shown we don’t have the talent in our front office to do that. We drafted Tua and our best quarterback is probably Jacoby Brissett. Almost every team in the league is better at QB than us and our number one job three years ago with rebuilding was to get a franchise QB. I’m seeing 5 loses just in our division if the Jets split with us.

  3. I disagree, and think Grier has done a good job of adding depth so far in a free agent market that is pretty weak this year. And we set the record for guaranteed money last season, anyways.

But, this pick is a strange one. Skura was ranked 4th in the league as a center in regards to pass blocking, but was benched, and ultimately, dismissed, bc he had trouble snapping in the pistol formation.. weird. It’s a 1 year prove it deal, he could earn a starting role, who knows. I would’ve locked up Andrews for a few years, and dealt with it then. I’d rather overspend on the o-line, then anywhere else, but maybe they’ll take a center in the 3rd round this year.

  4. There we go. This was a must. I dont see the cap hit here but we can assume its not much. He can bridge until we find a long term fix.
