Texans sign Phillip Lindsay

The Texans have added another running back.

This time it’s Phillip Lindsay, who signed a one-year contract after the Broncos let him hit free agency.

Lindsay joins a crowded backfield in Houston, where he’ll share time with David Johnson and Mark Ingram. At a time when many NFL teams are recognizing that running backs are easily replaceable, the Texans have three well-known names at the position.

Originally an undrafted free agent, Lindsay became a Pro Bowler as a rookie in 2018 but had his least productive season in 2020, carrying just 118 times for 502 yards.

  1. There seems to be questions around who is going to throw the ball in Houston, so might as well sign guys who can run the ball.

  2. Looks like they’ll sign anyone willing to suit up for them at this point.

  3. Haha. Texans againn! So they now have David Johnson (who was the main piece in trading the best WR in NFL), Duke Johnson, Mark Ingram, and Lindsay.. That’s probably close to 20 mil wrapped up in one position that’s worthless when they are down every week by 20 points. Guess this season’s gameplan is to just run out the clock so they can go home quicker.

  4. Lindsay couldn’t beat out Melvin “Fumbles” Gordon in Denver and then he signs with a team with a crowded backfield already? Doesn’t seem like the best plan to get on the field.

  5. If you happen to read this PL.. Much love from Denver .. well .. actually. Pueblo CO THANK YOU for your 3 years. You will be greatly missed!

  6. Ok yeah, Lindsay had a NICE season in 2018, he reminded me of Benjarvis Green-Ellis when we had him in Foxborough also an UDFA. However, is Lindsay being passed aside for Gordon? Or was his mutual decision to leave due to him realizing he isn’t a featured back, and more of a situational down back

  7. They better do all they can to grab hometown boy/Florida Gators QB Kyle Trask with their first pick (3rd Round)!!

  8. There’s one thing all those RBs have in common. All three are former 1,000 yard backs who all have something to prove and all three are nice receivers and all are interchangeable. I like that backfield with a very good QB who can extend plays…not Watson, Tyrod Taylor.

David Johnson might get cut now.

Or traded. If he was worth a top 5 WR after rushing for 350 yards and 2 TDs in 2019, he’s got to be close to worth a top 5 QB after rushing for 690 and 6 TDs in 2020. /s

    Duke was cut weeks ago

  11. Lindsey could be an excellent 3rd down back for the Texans. He is essentially a replacement for Duke Johnson who will probably end up with the Patriots this year if James White doesn’t return.

  12. Its still a good story, I’m pretty sure this means he gets over a million bucks for the year. a couple more of those and then some prudent money management should set him up for $100,000 year for the rest of his life off his investments. Tons of people would take that.

  13. Doesn’t matter, Texans are a dumpster fire. Can’t believe anyone would sign there.

  14. I’m glad he found another team, but the Texans? Ouch. I guess it’ll just be for the paycheck then.

  15. Lindsay is high energy. He gives it his all on each and every snap. This is a good signing.
