Dolphins cut Isaiah Wilson

The troubled career of Isaiah Wilson has taken another troubling turn.

The Dolphins released Wilson today, just days after trading for him from the Titans, who gave him up for a swap of seventh-round draft picks after selecting him in the first round of last year’s draft.

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Dolphins realized this week that it just wasn’t going to work with Wilson after he showed up late to take his physical, showed up late to a meeting with the team, and didn’t show up for two different workouts he said he would do at the team facility.

As a rookie with the Titans last year, Wilson played in just one game, was suspended for violating team rules, and was arrested for driving under the influence. Now two teams have given up on him in rapid succession. He may not get a third chance in the NFL.

  1. not too bright, and also lacks integrity- if nothing else at the very least do what you say you are going to do

  2. lol!

Serves the arrogant Dolphins right. Pathetic display. They can’t draft and develop like Les Snead with the Rams. They’re in deep trouble with Grier.

  3. This is so sad.

    Very, very unfair!!!

It’s not like he attacked his movers, or sexually assaulted numerous women, or attempted to carry a loaded weapon on a plane.

Poor Isaiah need a new approach.

If he works hard to build his criminal record, Jerruh Jones will discover his true value as a “team leader” and sign him to a long-term contact.

    Super Bowl!

  4. He needs to realize it’s a battle of his mind. If he has an appointment then just leave early and not wait until the last second to leave and if you have a workout or appointment get there a little early.

  5. He sounds like Jachai Polite, but he’s a 1st round pick
How do talented plyers make it through college then fall apart once they reach the NFL?
Check into rehab, you have a future, don’t throw it away.

  6. This sounds like a mental health issue and his life’s work is probably outside of football.

  7. This is what happens when you deviate from the plan. Greer and Flores committed to getting high character players who loved football and are competitive. This dude had none of that. At least it’s only a low round pick, but it’s still a lesson learned.

  8. Stop hating on the kid, he’s probably fighting a mental health or addiction battle. Hope he finds the help he needs and becomes a great redemption story one day.

  9. A bad offseason gets even worse for Miami. Flores showing his true colors now that he has had 2 years to try and convince everyone.. He will be the latest from the BB tree to FAIL..

  10. Did miami get lucky last year ….constant coach changes…cutting players just signed…benching fitzpatrick…last year could have easily been 6-10!

  11. It’s the Titans who didn’t do their due diligence..the Dolphins took a tiny risk and it didn’t work out..He is no different from many other young people who don’t have any work ethic..especially if they have a large signing bonus in their pocket

Tell me again about all the players Snead drafted and developed that are still on the team past their rookie contract. Aaron Donald? The Rams had two first round picks the year they took Donald. They drafted Greg Robinson 1st RD/Pick 2. Donald was taken 1st RD/Pick 13. They thought more of Robinson then Donald. By the way, they declined Robinson’s 5th year option.

  13. /Tearfully folds up Isaiah Wilson Dolphins jersey and places in dark corner of closet, next to the titans Isaiah Wilson jersey.

You mean the Les Snead that overpaid for Todd Gurley’s contract and thought Jared Goff was Andrew Luck type of talent? Oh yeah same GM.

  15. Mental illness is a hellova drug. US is 3rd in Anxiety and Depression, only behind China and India – two horrible countries, so what’s that say?

Why take a shot at the dolphins for giving the guy a chance for a swap of picks…. I will laugh if the rams give him a tryout

  17. Teams will talk to his agent & someone will likely offer him a prove it deal, with significant obligations/milestones to meet. In fact, I bet it happens before the draft. It won’t cost the team anything. It would put the responsibility on him to get right.

  18. Funny how all you losers jump on someone for their mistakes…….look in the mirror and think of all the opportunities you’ve wasted and what have you ever really accomplished?

  19. Crazy. The Titans made comments that he just isn’t the same guy they went through the process with prior to the draft. Wonder if he’s always skated by on ability or if the guaranteed money just shut off his common sense. Clearly with his comments about being done with football in Tennessee he felt he wasn’t the issue. Will be a rough mountain to climb back from this one.

  20. He may not get a third chance in the NFL! Raiders on line one; Patriots on line two…

  21. Would have been great if it worked out. The Dolphins literally lost nothing it was a swap for 7th rounders. They did a great thing here trying to give a young man a second chance. I don’t understand all the hatred in this country. I actually feel bad for the Titans fans. He needs professional help regardless of a another chance in the NFL because that ship sailed.

  22. Wilson has to rank pretty high among all-time busts in the NFL. Even though he wasn’t drafted in the top five picks overall, I can’t think of another first round pick who flamed out (with two teams, no less) within a calendar year of when he was drafted.

  23. The NFL can’t protect players from themselves, but in this case it sure needed to.

Give a 21 year old kid $6 million in his bank account when he’s probably never had $100 in his wallet and it’s a potential recipe for disaster.. Especially for a young man that has obvious character and/or mental issues

It’s a shame for both the player and the team.

I think what your missing is these arent mistakes these are character issues that if you’ve ever been management at any job you would understand seem to be rampant and people try to pass the blame. Showing up on time and doing what you say is the simplest most basic part of any job, if your not willing to do that then you deserve no benefit of the doubt.

  25. First Flores drafts a first round QB bust now this !!!!! Looks like another failure in Miami

No, actually it had zero impact to the team. It was a no-risk move.

They didn’t lose a pick, because they swapped 7th rounders with the Titans. Nothing lost on the deal.

You could give him the benefit of the doubt and wonder if he has some kind of personal issues but saying he’s “probably fighting mental health or addiction issues ” when I don’t think we’ve heard anything like that gives him too much of a pass. Some people are just jackasses beyond anyone’s help. If he does have those issues, they need to be dealt with. Can’t just automatically assume he has those problems though.
