Raiders will not forfeit a draft pick despite COVID-19 violations

Despite reports during the regular season that the Raiders would lose a sixth-round draft pick for violating the league’s COVID-19 rules, the league office confirmed today that the Raiders won’t lose a pick.

The NFL told PFT that the Raiders have been fined $800,000 for violations of the NFL-NFLPA COVID protocols during the 2020 season, but they will not forfeit a pick.

The Saints, who were stripped of a 2022 sixth-round pick for violating the COVID-19 rules, were the only team to lose a draft pick for violations. Several NFL teams, coaches and players were fined various amounts during the 2020 season for COVID-19 protocol violations.

It is unclear why the Raiders were not docked of a draft pick despite the violations that led to the $800,000 fine, but the team was likely able to appeal to the league office and convince the NFL to hand down only a monetary penalty.

  1. What about the Ravens, who disrupted the schedule more than any other team? Oh yeah, not with the face of Madden on their roster.

  2. What about the Ravens, Broncos, Titans and everyone else that didn’t follow these ridiculous rules? Of course it’s just the Saints that gets the harshest penalty when other teams were wayyyyyy worse and almost cost the season to be shut down. Goodell there’s a special spot for you downstairs!

  3. Of course not. They are tryinf to get money pumped into Las Vegas.

The bottomline is, there was going to be no punishment for either team as the announcement said, but someone or multiple owners picked up the phone and told Goodell to give one to the Saints.

Pats fans know how Goodell cheats. It can come in even small ways.

I have told you and others this reason. He will never punish fairly another AFC team unless it’s NE because he wants those AFC teams as strong as possible in case they can beat NE either on the schedule or in a postseason game.

That’s why nothing ever happens to AFC teams. Did you see how they “forgot” to grant NE their 5th rd compensatory pick? The Pats had to call in and call the league on it. Some might call these amazing coincidences a form of cheating by the commissioner. In fact, it is.

  5. Good, we’re still waiting for those steep penalties given to the RAvens the team that had the most violations of any team.

  6. Hallelujah!

Finally the NFL acts with reason. There were so many contradictory messages last year from governments and institutions. You can sit next to a stranger on a plane but not a friend in a restaurant? Let’s shut down everything because we’re afraid. But now let’s pack the stadiums?

Take care of your body… everything will be fine.

There are numerous teams in the AFC that can cheat openly and Goodell just ends up framing NE instead.

    Rinse and repeat.

I love how Goodell just tried to cheat NE again and the media doesn’t say anything.

The Saints last 6th round pick didn’t make it to a second season. The two 6th round picks the year previous; one didn’t make it past camp and the other was placed on the practice squad. The year prior, their 6th round pick made the final roster, played in week 1 and then was waived. Don’t act upset like they were going to lose out on a gem.

  9. When a team forfeits a draft pick for rules violations, the pick should go to the team that finished last in the division.

  10. There was nothing negative that the Raider players did which negatively impacted the league. The NFL should have a policy that for every player, coach, GM, owner who is arrested, charged or is negatively in the news should be the reason to strip teams of picks.

  11. Saints loss of draft pick are like me getting a speeding ticket when the three cars in front of me were also speeding. Selective enforcement once again. Still punishing the Saints for bringing up the inherent unfairness of this league.

  12. “Take care of your body… everything will be fine.”

And this exact attitude is why the US had one of the worst responses to Covid in the world. Most cases and most deaths. Take care of your body? The US leads the world in obesity

Fining them $800,000 is a strange way to “pump” money into Las Vegas.

  14. Perhaps it’s because next to Paul Brown Jr., Son Of Al is probably the “poorest” owner in the league.
The NFL office knows that Davis is leveraged past his eyeballs on that new stadium, so they cut them a break when they can.
It would be awkward to award Vegas Super Bowls while at the same time crippling their competitive advantage on the field.

  15. I cant say I’m surprised but I believe the punishment isn’t harsh enough, I’ve been a Raiders fan since the 80s, I didnt like the attitude toward covid from the franchise hopefully they’ve changed their attitude now

  16. Every time Goodell punishes a player or a team, the conspiracy theorists come out of the woodwork to complain that Goodell hates their team.

It’s NOT a conspiracy. Goodell is NOT out to hurt your team. He may make some questionable/ignorant moves, but it’s just a decision that you disagree with, not a conspiracy.

  17. How is it some teams got crucified with fines, one had to start a practice squad receiver at QB, one (maybe more; I don’t know) got docked a draft pick, another had the schedule rearranged for them, another practiced illegally and had no repercussions, and this is happening? I’m not saying take the Raiders’ first round pick away. I’m saying like with the personal conduct policy, it seems like the league just makes it up as it goes. Are they spinning a roulette wheel???

It doesn’t matter what pick it is, Goodell has it out for the Saints and has made it miserable to be a fan of the NFL still. I’m glad Brees finally retired, what’s the point Goodell will always find a way to cheat us out of anything. He has wayyyyy too much power for being that kid that got picked on growing up, now he’s flexing every chance he can get because he can. Everyone is laughing at us Saints fans.. that is until it’s your team Goodell set his demon eyes on. Good luck with that guy,
