The Bears gave defensive tackle Akiem Hicks permission to seek a trade, but nothing has materialized and it now appears Hicks will remain in Chicago.

Hicks is now likely to remain with the Bears, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.

The Bears officially cut cornerback Kyle Fuller on Saturday, and their precarious salary cap situation led them to consider parting ways with Hicks as well. Hicks is heading into the final year of his contract and scheduled to earn $10.5 million this season.

But the Bears didn’t find a trading partner, and the 31-year-old Hicks won’t be going anywhere.

  1. The Bears are so over the salary cap they are doing everything to save money. Should have restructured Kyle Fuller and kept him. Fuller signed with Broncos for one year and 5 million less than he would have made in Chicago. So if he was willing to sign with Denver for less, why not re do his deal in Chicago?

  2. No trade … yet. If they gave him permission to look, it won’t take much to let him go and save the salary cap $$$.

  3. “We have a plan”…tanking and going for 1st pick in 22 is the plan then why keep Hicks? Why would he want to play for Nagy?

  4. What a mess as the Bears build to what would be a success to be at 8 and 8 for the upcoming season. As a Bears fan now convinced that until the M family sells the team it will be more of the same

  5. Best news I’ve heard this off season. Hicks will be gone after this season but at least the D won’t be completely ripped apart. Now he just has to stay healthy.

  6. How has this GM kept his job? I really can’t recall one GM making so many horrible decisions, creating such a mess and still keeping a job.

  7. Hate to tell you but this defense is already in decline and we’ve just shipped out our best DB. And then our focus on offense becomes Andy Dalton. Hopefully a top 10 pick in 2022 and Pace gone so he can’t screw it up, again.

  8. Ummm, he will be cut at some point. The Bears are rebuilding and way over the cap.

Just because a team isn’t really dumb to trade for that salary, doesn’t mean he can stay or want a severe paycut.

It makes no sense to rent him during their rebuild.

If tanking were the plan, then why not just name Foles their starter for 2021? Why spend $10 million to bring in another QB? Why franchise tag Robinson? Why not trade Mack?

  10. I hope Hicks stays, He is a intregal part of the D-line. And with Eddie Goldman coming back they should still be solid up front. The loss of Roy Roberts Harris will hurt more than the loss of Kyle Fuller.

  11. How does Pace still have a job. This is the worst offseason since the Bears traded from #3 to #2 for no reason.

  12. Gotta love the bears FO in trade negotiations:

Hey Seattle: We will give you 3 first rounders and 2 starting defenders (wink wink) we absolutely would never just release and we absolutely plan on keeping for years to come (wink wink)…and they would never just become available on the waiver wire in a couple days.

Deal? What? Come on this is an offer you can’t refuse!

How do Pace, Snead or Keim still have jobs?

Note how the NFC has a rash of cap hell issues and moron GMs all at once. How is Mickey Loomis of the Saints still employed? It took years for Ted Thompson in GB to be let go, too. It is just brutal.

Spending a load of money at once is not how you do it. Anyone can do that.

  14. I’m not sure why trading Hicks gets everyone so wound up. Remember he’s always OUT hurts 50% of time anyway.
