Joe Flacco will visit the Eagles

Veteran quarterback Joe Flacco is on the 49ers’ radar as a potential backup quarterback, but they aren’t the only team that may be bidding for Flacco’s services.

PFT has learned, via a league source, that Flacco will visit with the Eagles.

The Eagles traded Carson Wentz to the Colts, which leaves Jalen Hurts in line to start at quarterback this season. They do not currently have another quarterback on the roster and there was word that owner Jeffrey Lurie wanted the team’s moves to support Hurts rather than create competition for the job.

Flacco, who grew up near Philly in South Jersey, would fit into that strategy as an experienced quarterback who can help Hurts in his first full year as a starter. Flacco played a similar role for Sam Darnold with the Jets in 2020, although he wound up making four starts as the younger quarterback dealt with a shoulder injury.

  1. Joe has always had this odd indifferent attitude/personality towards football. Something you don’t want see in a QB. It’s a strange if I win “great” and if I don’t “no big deal.” Jared Goff shares this same attitude/personality. It’s not the Jay Cutler level of professional malcontent,we all know Jay showed up just for the paycheck.

  2. Probably having a tough time convincing ms. Flacco to go to the west coast, but San Fran is a perfect fit for Joe.

  3. Can he still win Football games? That’s the question. You have to assume a real running QB will miss a couple games.

  4. Superbowl’s MVP’s don’t grow on trees!! Howie is finally getting an elite QB in the building.

  5. A lot of disrespect for Flacco but he has something that many QBs dream of — a Superbowl championship and Superbowl MVP. He is a good but not great QB who bet on himself and it paid him handsomely.

SuperBowl MVPs don’t get traded 90 days later either. If Carson/Jalen struggled behind that swiss cheese OL, Joe won’t last until 4th down!

  7. This seems like a non-fit to me. If Hurts goes down, you basically have to switch up the offense to fit Flacco’s style. No?

  8. I have to assume the comments above are laying on the sarcasm deep. The Eagles had their own Super Bowl winning and Super Bowl MVP QB and they let him walk for zip, zilch, nada.
And, unlike Flacco, Nick Foles’ win came in just 3 years ago. Not a decade ago!

  9. My eagles are going to win between 2 and 6 games with or without Joe Flacco, so my question is, why bother?

    Thanks Captain Obvious.

  11. His last two games with the jets weren’t that bad. Don’t compare him to sb Flacco compare him to Sudfeld

  12. Smart for the eagles to bring in a guy who has no business being a starter. Give hurts a huge confidence boost!

  13. As a Bronco fan, go ahead and sign the new Sam Bradford of the NFL. He has won 6 games in 3 years. We paid way too much for him & regretted it he was a statue. Denver paid him 18 million for 2 wins wow! The Eagles & 49’s surely can find someone anyone vs this guy.

  14. Sign Joe for 2 years minimum vet contract, then sign Kirk Cousins for minimum vet contract. Win win for everyone.

  15. I was a huge Flacco fan early on, and he lost me when he seemed to lose his fire after The Contract. However, as a backup, you really can’t do much better. Fans will not be clamoring for him to take over for your starter, and he will get you through some games in case of an injury. The truth is you never know which Joe you’ll get, but if you get the good one on a good day, he can absolutely play lights out. But only sometimes LOL.
