Deshaun Watson’s lawyer says allegations are false, accuses accuser of blackmail

Rusty Hardin, the attorney for Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, has released his most detailed statement rebutting claims that Watson has sexually harassed and assaulted some two dozen women who were employed to give him massages.

In the statement, Hardin says that allegations of sexual assault against Watson are false, and he says that one of the plaintiffs who has brought a case against Watson attempted to blackmail him.

Hardin issued the following statement to PFT:

“I want to emphasize at the outset that we and Deshaun recognize that sexual assault and harassment are not only unlawful, but morally wrong. It takes courage for women to come forward to report being mistreated, particularly when they attach their names to a lawsuit. We do not take these allegations lightly. However, fairness to the accused is equally as important.

“Opposing counsel has orchestrated a circus-like atmosphere by using social media to publicize 14 ‘Jane Doe’ lawsuits during the past seven days in a manner calculated to inflame the public and malign Deshaun’s otherwise sterling reputation. In addition, the tactic of refusing our requests to confidentially provide the names of the plaintiffs so we can fully investigate their claims makes uncovering the truth extremely difficult. Anonymity is often necessary as a shield for victims but opposing counsel has used it as a sword to publicly humiliate Deshaun before the truth‑seeking process can even begin.

“I believe that any allegation that Deshaun forced a woman to commit a sexual act is completely false. And in the one case in which we have been able to identify a plaintiff, we have strong evidence showing the allegation is false. In January of this year, a woman attempted to blackmail Deshaun by demanding $30,000 in exchange for her ‘indefinite silence’ about what she stated was a consensual encounter. It is our belief this woman is the plaintiff in Cause No. 2021-15613. (Please see the attached declaration by Bryan Burney.) This calls into question the legitimacy of the other cases as well.

“We have received numerous unsolicited comments in the past week from many licensed massage therapists who have worked with Deshaun in recent years. These women describe him as a gentleman and a model client who never engaged in inappropriate conduct. Indeed, before these salacious claims, everyone who associated with Deshaun described him as an outstanding, respectful, and compassionate man.

“Again, we are taking the allegations very seriously but we ask only that people not rush to judgment, that people not be unduly influenced by opposing counsel’s antics, and that they let fundamental fairness to both sides rule the day. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”

  1. Oh, ok. Guess we can put this whole ordeal to rest. Thank you for the clarification.

  2. Of all the hundreds or even thousands of high-level athletes that receive massage therapy, why is it this guy who finds himself in this position? Tom Brady & Drew Brees have spent a combined 40 years in the NFL and never had this kind of thing happen to them.
Watson is a dope for letting this happen to him.

  3. There has been no evidence provided yet people have already formed their opinions.

Let it play out for both parties sake.

The attorney could have easily filed all these cases together but he knew by introducing it piece by piece it would sway public opinion.

    Just let it play out.

  4. This whole thing is a mess. No clue what to believe and I’ll let the court systems figure that out

  5. OH, ok, so one of the encounters he had with a woman he was paying for a massage was ‘consensual’. so he is regularly having sex with his many massage therapists and thinks it’s normal and expected. interesting.

  6. I actually believe him… he obviously hooked up with these girls, that part isn’t in question, it’s whether the situation organically and mutually turned sexual or he “forced” it to be sexual and i would imagine that the more information that is uncovered the more unlikely it is that it holds any water

  7. Solid move by Hardin, getting out in front of this situation before more accusations & accusers come forward.. oh wait…

  8. There has been no evidence provided yet people have already formed their opinions.

Fun fact: sworn affidavits are in fact considered evidence

  9. Two dozen different women to give you massages??? Dude I’m a man and if one of those women (I guarantee that they all are pretty) gave me a massage my hormones would eventually kick,,,2 dozen women must have meant that he had some kind of secret fantasy of getting massages and his current girlfriend is really beautiful,,,or maybe his ex-current,,,

  10. So by using the term consensual, Watson and his legal team are not denying that he was finding women on Instagram and having sex with them. It appears they can’t get around that, so they have to admit it. They are just going to attempt to prove that all of these 14-24 or more women are falsely accusing him of forcing them to into it.

So there is absolutely no way he gets out of this without his reputation being tarnished because he was definitely soliciting sexual favors from women on Instagram under the guise of ” masseuses ” These sessions were not innocent like most people wanted to believe.

Tell us all again how you compare a single man against two men that are married with children.

  12. “Indeed, before these salacious claims, everyone who associated with Deshaun described him as an outstanding, respectful, and compassionate man.”

What respectful and compassionate man has sexual relations (consensual or not) with dozens of “massage therapists”?

  13. Is this gonna be a Darren Sharper 2.0? if even half these are true his career is over no self control could cost him hundreds of millions smh….

  14. I believe in making up my mind after the facts have come out. However, what happened to the “Believe All Women” and the “Me Too”peeps? Where are they at? Heck, I remember how Ezekiel Elliott got run through the ringer and that was only one woman, who was not credible and he got suspended. Why do people, all of a sudden want to protect this guy? I could see one or two, but 14???

  15. Rusty Hardin also claimed Roger Clemons never used steroids in the steroid era.

  16. This guy could go in his DMs and pick out 10 baddies willing to give it up every single night, and he’s hunting massage therapists? Why? Because he’s a sexual predator, and consensual encounters don’t do anything for him. He likes forcing women into uncomfortable situations.

  17. Any woman that ever met him will jump on board at this point. All these women and not one went to the police? Each new addition leans me closer to money grab, not smoke and fire.

  18. Pretty obvious as there are police reports or anything like that…. Just some gals trying to “cash in”…..

  19. guilty until proven innocent is how Deshaun is viewed unfortunately. Wasn’t that way for Big Ben though…

  20. In a case like this I would first look at the attorney’s credibility. Is he known to bring questionable cases ? This seems odd to me that everyone has the same attorney, no one has made a public claim ( everyone is annonymous ) and no one has brought criminal charges or has a record of calling the police. I will wait for more info before deciding guilt or innocence.

  21. Does anyone other than me find it odd that he has so many different massage therapists??

  22. So by using the term consensual, Watson and his legal team are not denying that he was finding women on Instagram and having sex with them. I mean, who cares if he’s sliding into DMs? If the sex is consensual, then there is nothing wrong with him “soliciting sexual favors”. The issue is whether or not it was consensual.

  23. So, he’s not a serial abuser, just a run-of-the-mill degenerate. The “consent” his attorney eluded to is puzzling, at best.

  24. Kind of wish we would all agree to retire the “where there’s smoke there’s fire” cliche. It’s pretty meaningless in a real-world scenario. Consider the Salem Witch trials, by the logic of some the fact that several people accused several others of “witchcraft” means that they must have been witches.

  25. Yes, but the guilty until proven innocent was applied to Justice Kavanaugh. Strange, those women who lied and slandered him were never held accountable. Hmm. Double standard for Republicans vs. Democrats by the media?

    ——————————-

It’s only odd if he was actually getting massages.

  27. Let’s show a bit of intellectual honesty here. Deshaun was hiring call girls disguised as “massage therapists”. The fact that he employed over a dozen different massage therapists should cause even Florio to draw the correct conclusion – he was not hiring them for their massage skills. THAT, is called solicitation of prostituion. Now do you folks understand why no “criminal complaints” were filed?

  28. Do you honestly think 24 women would be able to hold together a story like this is it wasn’t true?

  29. I will not attempt to judge innocence or guilt here the water is too murky. But Why, WHY did Watsons attorney wait so long to defend his client in the public court??? Buzzbee has been using a flamethrower in the press, many have formed opinions, and yet they have stood back and let Watsons reputation just be drug through the mud. Again I’m not saying what happened. I just question what each of these two attorneys are doing because both seem to be either self aggrandizing or negligent.

  30. Deshaun watson doesnt need a massage therapist to give him special treat ment. He could get that anywhere else and be way better off for it. Just some gold digger wanting to get payed for someone else’s accomplishments.

  31. acemagee45 says

Solid move by Hardin, getting out in front of this situation before more accusations & accusers come forward.. oh wait…

    ///////

He explained it in the attached file, you can’t get out in front of something with real evidence because evidence is otherwise not provided. Not a single thing can even be fact checked, this is 100 percent the intent for fraudulent claims. You can’t track these people down and get them saying anything. This all will crash down because it’s been built by an idiot with empty beer cans.

0 chance this makes it anywhere. Garbage. Even the media lawyers would love this to be all true and they can’t being themselves to trust the lie

  32. Has anyone considered that after Watson starts having issues with the Texans as an organization and starts a campaign to be traded and hints (rather strongly) that he will sit out otherwise – that after that, all these allegations (organized by a single lawyer) start appearing – just seems a bit odd.

  33. Big Ben was SEEN BY EVERYONE AT THE BAR AND MANY WHO COULD PLACE HIM AT THE SCENE.

jeez people are so dumb by choice

  34. “Opposing counsel has orchestrated a circus-like atmosphere by using social media to publicize 14 ‘Jane Doe’ lawsuits during the past seven days in a manner calculated to inflame the public…”

This is what some people have focused on, in fact some people in the people in the comments on these articles highlighted the contradiction of Buzbee saying that he’s not trying to speak on it/use social media, but then does exactly that by using an algorithmic approach. This is going to get very interesting.

What does being married and having children have to do with anything?
The comparison is that they’re high profile, highly paid NFL quarterbacks.
Also, those two men didn’t come into the league married with kids. The point is that they’ve spent their entire careers without having a scandal such as the one Watson finds himself in.
And It’s not as if being married with kids makes someone immune to getting in a sex scandal.
There’s tons of other single guys in the NFL who aren’t in Watson’s position either.

  36. Watson has a fetish like many sexual deviants. That’s why there are so many victims.

    Yes, that is the evidence.

  39. “This calls into question the legitimacy of the other cases as well.”

This is the whole point of their statement. The rest is just filler. Preemptive undermining of all the other plaintiffs.

But if this is the best they can do, they are hedging their bets and it doesn’t read like much of a defense.

  40. The dopes saying the more of them there are, the more I believe them must not know what these Instagram types do. Google Dubai and Instagram models. These are the scum of the earth with no morals, just their physical looks. So jumping on an anonymous lawsuit to make bad publicity go away is hardly morally difficult for them to jump to, especially since we know that the first one that got this rolling asked explicitly for money to make her go away. None of them went to the police. Not one. Think and stop being stupid like the rent-a-lawyer knew you would be so he could advance the ball.

Great point. When claiming that he was soliciting prostitution and that the hired women were mistaken in what they believed to be consensual vs. non-consensual is looking like Watson’s best-case scenario, it’s not good.

  42. The plaintiff called it “consensual”, not the attorney

“…a woman attempted to blackmail Deshaun by demanding $30,000 in exchange for her ‘indefinite silence’ about what she stated was a consensual encounter.”

  43. This was so dirty by the Texans and Team Watson knows it. He will never play for the Texans again and will be wearing a new jersey Week 1 with no suspension or penalty. Then he will proceed to destroy them for the next 15 years.

  44. I miss the old timey days where we didn’t have to sift through stories about rich people’s sex lives when trying to get caught up on free agency happenings

If allegations are true then this is a SPOT ON take. Glad it got posted and not erased.

  46. So, uh… How many more lawsuits need to be filed before this hits class action status?

  47. I think he’s 100% innocent. False allegations hurt women who actually had something awful happen to them. People hearing about false allegations like these could potentially be on future juries in rape cases, and allow a real creep to walk free, and to embolden him to commit further crimes with the feeling that he can get away with it. Oh this is just awful. I hope someone goes to prison for a long time.

  48. So now Hardin is admitting Watson solicited sex (and massages) for money on Instagram. That’s a great strategy!

It’s looking more and more like he’s looking for escorts on the app. This is Houston where many of these ladies do double duty. I surmise Watson may have thought they were all prostitutes and made huge mistakes with several of them.

  49. Believe all women? Let’s do a short exercise…

Try believe all men…. let that breath for a second…..

Now let’s try to believe everyone….

Yes, all of the above are crazy. Don’t be blind. I’m sure I know many a times where people have lied to get ahead, regardless of gender or even age.

  50. Read the article please. His attorney asks was it consensual, Watson or his attorney never said it ever happened.
