The Seahawks apparently are making another change.

Veteran defensive tackle Jarren Reed tweeted this message on Thursday: “It’s been real 12s. Tomorrow at 1 it’s official … on to the next chapter.”

A second-round pick in 2016, Reed is entering the final year of his contract. He’s due to make $8.075 million in salary this year.

Reed started all 16 regular-season games in 2020 for the Seahawks. The Seahawks will clear $8.5 million by releasing him, given that he had $425,000 in per-game roster bonuses.

As a vested veteran, Reed immediately will become a free agent.

  1. Brian Burns-Derrick Brown-Jarran Reed-Hassan Reddick…. that would be straight lethal…

  2. Yes, I’m a niners fan. Even thru those biased eyes – it just looks like the Seahawks are in random, desperation mode.
Just don’t understand some of the things happening there.

  3. Sorry to see Reed have to leave. Not sure if he is going to make room for someone else to be added, but that seems likely……

  4. I haven’t heard anything from the Seahawks. If Reed is available, chances are the Seahawks are on the phone with several teams right now. Unless there is some information that hasn’t hit the press yet, Reed is a highly valued guy. I doubt he’d make it to the free agent market.

  5. It’s purely a cap release. The Hawks wanted him to restructure from salary to a bonus to help them push the cap hit into next year. I’m not sure why, but Reed apparently declined. Some team is going to get a really solid DT. He can rush the passer better than most DT’s but he tends to get out of position at times against the rush. Still going to be hard to see him go and frankly I think he’d be a great addition to the Raiders.

  6. Reed out – Dunlop In… for basically the same $$$. Just shows what position takes precedence in a low-cap year. By the way, Jarran was great 4 years ago, but a bum knee and then a year latter, an admitted bad year and then pretty much nothing last year didn’t add up to $8.5 million worth of DT this year. And, he can now be re-signed by the Seahawks for a more cap-friendly deal. He’s worth $3-4 million at this point in a “show me” year.

  7. Seattle’s defensive line is shaping up…they now have Carlos Dunlap, Poona Ford, L.J. Collier, Kerry Hyder, Bryan Mone, Darrell Taylor, Bensen Mayowa, Rasheem Green, Cedrick Lattimore, Myles Adams, and Alton Robinson…I’m guessing Dunlap and Ford start…Hyder or Collier will battle it out for another defensive end spot…not sure who the other defensive tackle will be….

  8. Perfect for Jacksonville, a team looking for any defense at all with plenty of cap space. Reed is young, which fits a rebuild like the Jags. You listening, Urban?

  9. I wish Carroll/Schneider tried this hard with the offensive line.
Clearly, there was a triangulated negotiation going on with Seahawks, Reed, Dunlap.

Mr. Reed: I hope you get a better payday with another team. You were a stalwart Hawk. Thanks for all your hard work!

  10. Dear Mr. Reed come to Miami, the weather’s warm 360/days a year we have beautiful beaches with warm ocean waters, plus there is no state income tax. You would probably be a starter day one.

    Kind regards,
    A Dolphins fan.
