The Vikings have added another veteran to the secondary.

Free agent safety Xavier Woods has signed a one-year deal in Minnesota, according to multiple reports.

Woods is the third free agent the Vikings have added to their secondary, following Patrick Peterson and Mackensie Alexander.

A 2017 sixth-round pick of the Cowboys, Woods has played his entire four-year career in Dallas. He has started 15 games each of the last two years.

  1. Pretty decent low risk move — 1 yr at $1.75M for a guy articles in Feb said was looking for $6M/yr, rated below Harris as a free agent safety, but still rated top 50. Now sign a dang offensive lineman please.

  2. Danielle Hunter has to be fuming over this news.
How’s he ever going to put food on the table under his current deal?
Especially with the Vikings splurging his raise on even more middling players.

  3. Interesting. Is he an every down starter? Obviously fills a hole. You don’t need an all pro opposite Harrison Smith, just somebody competent. The only two glaring holes right now are OL and DE, and one of those will be filled with the 14th overall pick. Numerous 1 year deals to fill the holes so far.

  4. Good luck. You’re gonna need it. Dude looks totally lost on some plays, does stupid free lancing, does his own thing. Be prepared to be frustrated with his performance.

As a Cowboys fan, thank you Minnesota for taking him away. Good luck.

Ever think it the coaching, the scheme and not the player?

Just came across my IG, they are coming close to a deal with Rams OL Austin Blythe…..hope it’s true.

You do know this bit isn’t funny or amusing, right? I mean, I know this guy is a Packer fan, but even a couple of those can be occasionally funny. Not this guy.

Zim the DB guru will show you just how bad the Cowboys coaching staff is.

  8. Some nice moves have been made by my Minnesota Vikings, not earth shattering moves but nice. However I would like to see them get a left tackle before the draft-then they can draft a defensive end or linebacker.

  9. Sterling7:

I agree, thought that the most recent moves to free up cap space would translate into the Vikings signing someone like Fisher.

    **********
I’m not trying to be funny or amusing, I’m dead serious.
Hunter’s erased every bit of Viking material from his social media accounts, and activity has suggested he’s interested in a new working situation.
And he’s leaked publicly that he desires to be the highest paid defender in the NFL.
After all, he is a two time pro-bowler, so why not?

What? Are you still looking to bet your family on football again?
    And Viking football at that.
Now that was really funny! 🤣

  11. Nice move, Rick. Keep it up! You’ll have us back into solid contention for third in the NFCN in no time.

  12. Packer guy….the bet was your family and your house. You said the Packers would beat the Vikings by 5 games in the division. I’m willing to toss in whatever you got. I’ll cover it. And you’re literally the only one complaining on Hunters behalf. Goof.

  13. The Cowboys fired their defensive coordinator after last year. Plus money is tightening up with Dak getting the largest contract on planet earth. I am hoping these two things had more to do with Woods being available than his play. They had him as a starter for the last two years so I am sure he is serviceable but maybe he has more upside than that.

  14. Connor, I have absolutely no interest in your double wide trailer that the bank probably still owns. 🤣
And, as I said before, betting your family is a just a very weird, funny statement to make.
    For anybody.
How do we even collect that? 🤔
I’m not quite sure what your home life is like, but my family is too valuable to bet on anything. 😉

You must not be familiar with ariani1985 or Jeffrey B. Dahmed.

  16. Vikings coaches talked with Hunter last week and supposedly smoothed things out, but who knows? For sure that doesn’t fit the narrative of this Viking Blame guy and his pseudonyms, who apparently is not only “dead serious” about this ongoing Hunter theme, but lacking in originality, humor and emoji overuse technique. . . .

Then why did Spielman pay Harris $11.4 million? (instead of taking the draft pick). answer is?

  18. Vikings boards = a place for packer fans to drown the boredom of their stagnant franchise.

  19. Get ready, Minnesota. This team is going to be a sleeping candidate for a top 5 pick in 2022.

32-6 over the last two years vs 19-13 and going the wrong direction. I know which I prefer.

He’s no Dantzler. And that’s a good thing.

    __________

You didn’t watch much Vikings football last year, did you? Dantzler is actually very good as it turns out, he got hurt, but on field he actually played well particularly for a rookie.

  22. I love Viking fans hope high before the season starts. They think they have a chance for a first super bowl for the franchise than the season starts and they remember they over paid to have Kurt Cousins play for them lol.

  23. A mid 20 year old safety who was stuck with bad coaching for a few years… nice move by the Vikings. Zimmer seems to find the best in every single db who plays for him. That secondary went from a liability to a strength with the FA moves. Kudos to Spielman for addressing their biggest weakness.

  24. Packers Rubes on the Hunter deal, it might be wishful thinking he won’t be in purple. Paul Allen from KFAN specifically said last week from a source who he has total confidence in that Hunter is not going to hold the Vikings hostage or hold out.

As far as your 32-6 record, that’s all Rodgers and not Lafleur. The Packers organization needs to restructure his deal soon or he will walk I guarantee it. The Packers will fall into irrelevancy just like they were in 70s.

The “he ain’t going no where” Packers fans were bragging about less than a year ago may come to fruition. The window on Rodgers time as a Packer is coming to a close if the organization doesn’t act fast and expeditiously.

This is what happens when you depend on one player for organizations success. He’ll be somehwere else next year.

Harris was coming off an excellent year, with 6 ints. And the money worked under the cap. Of course you’d like all Pro’s at every position. And you won’t throw them away. But as easy a decision it was last off season, letting him go after the down year he had is just as easy.

  26. Man I wish our packers can sign some skilled help in our secondary. We resign King who is the worse corner in the league, then we sign Jones for a huge contract for what? So he can fumble twice in the biggest game of the year then pretend to be hurt? packer front office is the worst. Sure glad we have Love to not dress and sit on the bench, great use of moving up in the first round…..sigh
