Kyle Love announces his retirement

Defensive tackle Kyle Love never signed with another team after being released by the Buccaneers last September and he won’t be signing anyone this year either.

In a post to his Instagram account, Love wrote that he is “closing this chapter in my life and opening up a new one” away from the football field.

Love played 10 seasons in the NFL after making the Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2010. He played three years in New England and split a season between Kansas City and Jacksonville before spending six seasons with the Panthers. He had 148 tackles, 15 sacks, four forced fumbles, and five fumble recoveries in 115 career games.

In addition to thanking his wife, Mississippi State, the Patriots, and Panthers, Love wrote that he hopes his time in the NFL will “be an example for anyone who may have ever been told no or that you can’t do something in life.”

  1. Yet another great undrafted rookie free agent pick up by the GOAT Bill Belichick.

Why doesn’t this get talked about?

How many undrafted rookie FA’s have won Superbowls for the Patriots in the last 20 years?

  2. the GOAT Bill Belichick.

    —————————-

    Unbelievable.

Belichick’s free agency splurge proved that the reason Belichick could build the team in a way that other coaches couldn’t was because he had Tom Brady. Without Tom Brady, he has to build the team just like how every other coach does.

Yet, Belichick’s believer still believe it was Belichik.

  3. Some players respond to BB’s coaching, some do not. Love did and it helped him have a nice NFL career. Maybe he would have made it without starting with the Pats, we do not know. Either way…Godspeed.

  4. Very gracious KLove credited the Pats. Belichick did put him on the map. BB also unceremoniously cut him when he was diagnosed with diabetes. It’s a credit to Love’s perseverance that he played another 7 yrs and earned over 7 mil for his career.

  5. Yes BB is the GOAT

And TB12 is the GOAT QB
    But remind me:

How many tackles did he make?
How many blocks did he throw?
How many FGs did he kick?
How many INTs did he pick?

And remind me who put all those players around TB12 to do all those things for him so he could help win all those Superbowls? And how many of them were UDRFA’s like Kyle Love?

  6. remind me who put all those players around TB12

    weswelker83,

Let me show you the right way of thinking:

–It is not hard to build top defense if a coach spends as much as Belichick did. (a PAPER TIGER defense that couldn’t be replied on in playoff)

–It is not hard to build top offense with a really good QB if a coach invests a lot on offense, like Sean Payton did.

What is hard is to have BOTH top defense and top offense, and Pats offense was ranked better than defense was though Belichick invested most on defense, WHY?

  7. weswelker83,

Do you know that China couldn’t make its own ballpoint pens, until 2017?

–Despite being the world’s biggest manufacturer of ballpoint pens, making about 38 billion a year for consumers, China has been importing the stainless steel used to make the pens’ tips from Japan—at a cost of roughly $17.3 million a year

–Out of 200+ countries, I believe 60% or 120+ countries can make the body of ballpoint pens.

Brady was the one who “made the pens’ tips” in Patriots SB wins, even BEFORE 2007, not Belichick’s defense.

  8. Great career for an UDFA. Too bad he didn’t get to stay with the Bucs for the championship year.

Love got a roster spot with the Patriots for the same reason Brady did as a compensatory 6th round pick. He earned it and draft position didn’t matter.

Brady was the 4th QB on the depth chart. How many coaches keep a 4th QB (on the roster, not the practice squad)?

It is revisionist history to say Brady made Belichick. That’s fact, not opinion. Brady has earned his place in NFL history and Belichick gave him the opportunity, groomed him, replaced a QB picked 1st overall (who the owner loved) with Brady, and started him in his first super bowl after the veteran Bledsoe won the AFCCG in Pittsburgh with Brady hurt.

  9. Let me remind Belichick’s believers what Mr. Kraft said :

    — “I do remember we always made fun of the teams that spent a lot in the offseason. So we know nothing is guaranteed, and I’m very cognizant of that.”

I guess that Belichick has become an idiot now, the kind of coaches he and his subordinates used to laugh at, after Brady left.

    Enjoy.

  10. wesweker83,

If Brady had scored only 24 points, Seahawks would have won with a FG, there would be no throw and no INT.

BTW, do you remember the game against Ravens, allowed 2 14 points leads? do you remember Seahawks scored a TD in 30 seconds before half time?

The defense played like garbage until last two plays. and I am sure that lot of defense could have limited Seahawks offense to 24 or less, like Packers.

  11. 2008: Pats make RMoss 3rd highest paid WR in the NFL.
2010: Pats make Brady the highest paid player in the NFL.
2011: Pats Franchise Welker, and make LMankins the highest pd G in the NFL.
2012: Pats make Gronk the highest pd TE in NFL history.
2015: Pats make Gostkowski the highest paid K in NFL history.
Pats make SMason the 7th highest pd G in the NFL
2020: Pats franchise Thuney for 15 mil

Common thread? They all play offense.

  12. Kyle love didn’t win a ring with us…we cut him after 2011….

But as far as UDFA’s that won rings with us?!

    Brady was free agent.

When BB gave Brady the keys in 2007, Brady proceeded fo choke it down throwing an appalling 50+ times with a lead vs the Giants from the shotgun spread over and over and over by his own volition.

    FAIlL.

Good thing BB drafted JimmyG to scare Brady into possibly losing his job after a middling postseaon stretch from 2007-2012.

  16. Shoot, I was hoping it was Jordan Love. All he does is not dress and sit on the bench……sigh

BenJarvis Green Ellis needed 4-5 more carries in sb46 and he’d be another. That was back when Brady sat in the shotgun 50 times a game and ignored his run game, ironicallty why he won his last 2 rings with defense, not really much he did.

Brady was too busy trying to chase stats and Manning ego to manage the game correctly with a 17-9 lead at half time. The Pats wouldn’t score again because he was too predictable leading the offense which is why BB drafted JimmyG and took away Brady’s keys to the sportscar.

Brady got back under center again and was forced to hand the ball off more….Voila, another dynasty.

    Thank you, BB. For everything.

PS Kyle Arrington a top nickel cb won a ring in sb49, ironically benched for Butler. He didn’t sign him as he started with TB, but still.

No GM in NFL his better with hungry, big heart guys like late rd picks and udfas.

  18. tb6,

Remember how Brady struggled in BA’s system, holding balls for big plays?

Anyone with eyes can tell that the system in 2007 was different from the one before 2007. Thanks to Belichick the fool who abandoned Brady’s system and adopted the system like Peyton’s, under which Brady had to hold balls for big plays.

Umm, that is what Brady wanted. At that time, onlyManing and Brady had multiple plays they could choose from in the huddle, gameplanning power and full autonomy.

    Brady dictated to McDaniels
once Weis left. He was empowered and wanted to chase Manning’s stats to the detriment of winning games, like Super Bowls. lmao

Manning won 2 rings y handing it off and helping his D. Prior to that? Manning didn’t help is D at all with the clock stopping constantly with thtowing so much. Get it?

Complementary football. Learn about it sometime. Educated fans know what it means.

LOL, the seasons between 2007 and 2012 were the seasons that deviated from Brady’s sytem.

In the middle of 2013, Gronk was injured and out, Brady had no one to push the balls downfield. Without choice, Brady turned the system back to his system, then brought the emergence of Julian Edelman, and Patriots started winning SB again and produced 2nd dynasty.

BTW, in 2014 season, Belichick saw what Shane Vereen was able to do under Brady, that is when he started his “finding gold among rocks” stretegy : throwing dozens of cheap receivers to Brady, and let Brady worked his ass off to figure out who would be good fits, and Belichick shamelessly took the credits.

BB is a chameleon and pragmatist, the greatest ever at sports. He would destroy someone like you at poker, for example.

What Kraft said is correct but BB zigging while the league zags is also correct.

The lowered cap off the pandemic is the outlier here. It’s not rocket science. Just cross out 2020 and hit the restart button like it never happened. Yep.

The contracts will look bargains in 2 years. If they had no system continuity, I would question this many infusion pieces, but tbey have many key starters still there. That’s why their own fas were so vital yo keep.

    Thank you, BB. For everything.

Umm, he surrounded Brady with HoF weapons. You’re just embarrassed when that happened Brady was terrible
when it mattered from 2007-2012 with his huge Giselle ego. All of this started when he met her. Period.

Go read the Mike Lombardi book. He all but demolishes Brady’s stewardship of the offense.

BB then drafted JimmyG and was back under center and not throwing 50 times a game from the shotgun like an ignorant moron.

I will say this….BB should have taken the keys away sooner than 2013/2014.

I would have done it in 2012 after the sb 46 loss. He was awful in both title games in 2007 and 2011. Absolutely awful and those are his chosen players just like when Brady wanted Sanu in there in 2019z Brady wanted him.

BB bent over backwards but he is not going to keep watching Brady ruin chances the whole team earned.

No, he didn’t. BB pulled that plug and that is a big reason why Ego Brady was scared for his job when BB worked DAiLY with JimmyG.

Get it? Brady was on notice.

Why did BB deal Moss after Week 4 in 2010? Because Brady was staring him down for stats so Moss could get a new contract.

BB will not allow for selfish players on his team, thankfully.

Brady was jealous of Manning’s media attention after helped earn 3 rings.

The devitiaton came from Brady, not Belichick. His game
management skills weakend and he sucked not realiizing running the ball vs an all out pass rush and against man coverage, would have helped him and the offense.

When you stand 7 yards behind the line of scrimmage and sub backs, tipping plays,, it means you are predictable.

You’re welcome, Willie Lee. You don’t know the sport. What made Brady was game awareness and execution not chasing stats.

The 39 TD pass to Scotty? Mahomes and Rodgers would have no problem throwing it, but the 4th and 3? ONLY Brady was able to do it.

So, when they win the division this year with an easier schedule than last year, a full offseason, etc, and they have a 2 seed or something like that, how is it that they can’t sniff going to a conf title game if they are at home and the AFC is in as much as a cap hell as the NFC?
