Center Austin Reiter, who started 32 games for the Chiefs the past three seasons, remains a free agent. The Chiefs, though, have found a new starting center with the same first name.

Kansas City agreed to terms on a one-year deal with center Austin Blythe, Nate Taylor of TheAthletic.com reports.

Blythe, 28, started 47 of a possible 48 games over the past three seasons with the Rams. He played center last season, starting all 16 games, and right guard in 2018-19.

The Colts made Blythe a seventh-round choice in 2016, and he played eight games with one start as a rookie. The Colts, though, waived him during the 2017 offseason, and Blythe signed with the Rams.

He spent the past four seasons with the Rams.

  1. 7th rounder only played in eight games since 2016…not exactly a ringing endorsement.

Not sure you read that correctly. He was the starting center with the Rams last season for all 16 games.

  3. Dude balled for the Rams. IMO one of the more consistent Offensive Lineman since 2017 when he got his 1st start. Moved to Center in the middle of 2019 and played well for us.

Sad to see him go. With the issues we have had with our Offensive Line, I would have liked to see him stay, but we can’t sign/keep everyone.

  4. Crazy how the Rams develop players other teams didn’t want – or no teams wanted.
Troy Hill, drafted by the Bengals, waived by the Patriots.
Austin Blythe, drafted and waived by the Colts
Austin Corbett, drafted by the Browns with the 33rd pick and traded to the Rams for a 5th round pick.
Darious Williams, signed by the Ravens as a UFA, and waived.
    Cory Littleton, undrafted free agent

I wouldn’t say he balled out, he was bad in pass protection allowing a lot of hits slash pressures and 4 sacks last season. Blythe was a solid average Center. Blythes departure though leaves a HUGE MASSIVE hole right in the middle of the Rams offensive line who lack the draft capital to land a top center and they’ve already missed out on the elite (Rodney Hudson, Corey Linsley) and even average (David Andrews/Ted Karras/Austin Blythe) centers who were on the market ensuring LA has a god awful interior OL. The Rams OL is going to get absolutely destroyed next season facing an elite pass rush like AZs who on obvious pass rushing situations can lineup Markus Golden (75.9 PFF Pass Rushing grade and ranks in top 12 in QB pressures/hits since 2018) on the EDGE at LDE, lineup excellent pass rushing DT Jordan Phillips inside, kick JJ Inside to 5T with EDGE Chandler Jones @RDE on the outside while also rushing a guy like OLB Isaiah Simmons who’s developing into an elite pass rush himself and VJ might also rush SS Budda Baker or line up Dennis Gardeck somewhere who with an elite 89.6 PFF Grade and 7.5 sacks on 93 attempts rushing Gardeck is developing into an elite pass rusher himself as well. No chance the Rams line is keeping AZs pass rush off of Stafford, though not a lot of teams will be able to slow that pass rush as AZ should have one of the NFLs best pass rush’s in 20-9 after they ranked 4th in 2029 and then upgraded it.
