The Falcons will serve as the home team in an October game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, the team announced Thursday.

The NFL will announce the exact date of the game as well as the Falcons’ non-divisional opponent when it releases the 2021 schedule in May. The Lions, Patriots, Jets, Eagles and the Washington Football Team are the Falcons’ home games outside the division.

That means the Falcons will play two preseason homes games and seven regular-season games at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in 2021. Falcons season ticket holders will receive a credit for the lost home game.

The NFL announced this week that beginning in 2022 every team will play a home game outside the United States at least once every eight years as part of the league’s International Series. Additional teams, such as the Jaguars, may volunteer to play more international games than required.

The Falcons’ previously played in London in 2014, facing the Lions.

Starting in 2005, the NFL has played four regular-season games in Mexico City, six in Toronto and 28 in London. The league canceled its international games in 2020 because of the pandemic.

  1. Fantastic news! Tottenham is a great place to watch the football – way better than Wembley and the facilities are amazing. I just hope we can get tickets to go.

  2. I’m not a big fan of games played in foreign countries. Keep the games in the US.

  3. I’m not a Falcons fan, but this is grossly unfair. Since AFC teams are getting an extra home game with the new 17-game schedule, they should be ones to host international games.

  4. You’re finding out how we Jaguars fans feel. Last year they were going to take two from us.

  5. Why not play all games in Europe, China, Africa and Mexico? If the money is right, you know they will.

Wow, it sounds like London is getting a terrible game!

  7. To be real here, they are not playing a home game in London, they are forfeiting a home game to play overseas.

Not the same thing though. The jaguars continually volunteer to play overseas, nothing is being taken from them.

  9. I love the games in England. What they have to do now is make them all 9:30/10 AM starts so we have an extra window of football on those Sundays. It’s happen a few times already. This has to be what they are planning as they move to more games in Europe.

Second comment, I agree with the point made that given the 17 game schedule, a team with 9 home games should be the ones to give up the date at home for an out of country game

  10. Are we really so sure that COVID will be under control by October? I mean, I know we’re all tired of it, but we can’t just wish it away and pretend it’s gone.

  11. Obviously this is all just a giant money grab and it’s ridiculous! There will never be a foreign NFL team in my lifetime and there shouldn’t EVER be one.

  12. I mean, I know we’re all tired of it, but we can’t just wish it away and pretend it’s gone.

The numbers are showing that the vaccinations are working well in the US. If most people get vaccinated we could start seeing some level of normalcy by then here. The problem is Europe, it’s another story over there.

  13. Just a quick reminder, 28 – 3. Also, Seattle should have run the ball. Have a nice day.

  14. The Falcons have a challenging season coming up considering they have a new coach and GM. Playing 10 games on the road makes it even tougher.

  15. The league canceled its international games in 2020 because of the pandemic.

At least one good thing came out of the pandemic.

  16. England is the perfect place for the Falcons, since they also blew a gigantic lead against a group of patriots once.

  17. Good lord! Goodell and the owners can’t do anything right when it comes to scheduling!

You’ve got a 17 game season that eliminates the stupid “sacrifice a home game” BS with 16 neutral site games to play with (remember, not all neutral site games need to be outside the U.S.).

And not just are they going to give some teams an extra home game, but they are actually letting a team with an extra ROAD game sacrifice their home game! Hello, Jacksonville doesn’t need that home game against Atlanta! I hope the people of Atlanta boycott Falcons games this season to send a message about how stupid Arthur Blank is!

And how difficult is it to have the two teams playing on an upcoming Thursday game get a BYE WEEK leading up to said game?

The Europe games would make the most sense for Thursday’s for that matter.

The NFL is lucky that the idiot networks are so desperate for ratings that they are willing to overpay for them.

But of course, as we all know, the Golden Goose eventually gets killed when used recklessly. The NFL is on their way to that in the far future.
