The Packers have a week to decide whether to exercise the fifth-year option on cornerback Jaire Alexander. It doesn’t sound as if they need that long.

Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst said Monday the team expects to pick up the option on Alexander’s rookie deal, Rob Demovsky of ESPN reports.

The only question is whether the Packers can sign Alexander to a long-term extension before they get to 2022.

Alexander, 24, was the 18th overall choice in 2018.

He has played 44 games, starting 42, in three seasons. Alexander has totaled 151 tackles, four interceptions, 41 pass breakups, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries in his career.

He made the Pro Bowl for the first time in 2020.

  1. Very good player who may not have hit his ceiling yet. Great example of what it means to keep improving, not to rest on your laurels. Would like to see him signed for another 4 years.

  2. I think PFF had him ranked number 1 among all corners last year… but they didn’t use that pick on a receiver!!!!!!

  3. Doesn’t matter, and the reason it doesn’t matter is because history always repeats itself, and history says Aaron Rodgers is Brett Favre 2.0 which means another playoff loss is in their future

  4. Maybe they include him in a package to trade up to select another QB this year in round one…

And that’s how you go 13-3 two years in a row folks.

  6. They had better sign him to an extension. Last year the head coach showed that in crunch time he doesn’t have faith in his QB and would rather rely on his D.

Aren’t you listening? None of that can be true because they haven’t drafted a receiver in the first round since forever!

  8. The Packers will need to figure out how to sign Devante Adams, rework Rodgers contract AND sign Alexander with a lower salary cap next year. Good luck on all of it.

  9. Best OL in the division.

This part is true. When Baktiari goes down, A Rog doesn’t win a lot of games.
