Jerry Jones: Best defensive player in the draft may be there for Cowboys at 10

Could the first nine players selected in Thursday night’s NFL draft all play offense? Jerry Jones thinks it’s possible.

Jones, the Cowboys’ owner and General Manager, said today that he thinks the best defensive player in the draft may still be on the board when the Cowboys pick at No. 10.

“I think that we’ve got a good chance to have a top defensive player, the top or one of the top, be there at No. 10,” Jones said.

That’s certainly plausible. It’s possible that five quarterbacks — Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Mac Jones, Justin Fields and Trey Lance — will go in the first nine picks. Other offensive players like Kyle Pitts, Penei Sewell, Ja’Marr Chase and Jaylen Waddle could round out the first nine picks, leaving Jones with his pick of the best defenisve player at No. 10.

If it plays out that way, Jones would likely want a cornerback like Alabama’s Patrick Surtain II, Virginia Tech’s Caleb Farley or South Carolina’s Jaycee Horn at that spot.

  1. Jones could be right. The question is, will he pick that player of go for someone else?

  2. Wait I thought he was Drafting Kyle Pitts at 10? That’s what he said last week.

  3. He should be looking at LB, guard, tackle, and D-tackle then another CB; he is in the NFC East and no other teams look even close to having a capable starting NFL QB or enough receivers to pressure the D.

  4. Has it finally been proven at this point…that Jimmy Johnson was the true architect of all 3 super bowl wins the Dallas Cowboys had in the 1990’s?(Barry Switzer won that 3rd SB with Jimmy’s players and draft picks) After Jimmy Johnson was fired and then completely under Jerry Jones’ tutelage and draft picks/free agent signings have zero super bowl wins ever since. What gives?

Jerry can’t remember last week. that we six bottles of Crown royal ago…

  6. Bad defensive draft outside of off ball LBs.

Surtain is who the Boys covet and expect to get.

  7. Surtain and Diggs on the outside would be formidable. Still need a better pass rush and linebackers with better instincts. Watching Jaylon Smith is painful. Gonna need O Line depth as well, as someone else mentioned above.
