Shad Khan on state of Jaguars: Hope, optimism, great to be alive

The Jaguars franchise has had more bad times than good times, but Jaguars owner Shad Khan says they’re on the verge of their very best time.

Khan said that with the first overall pick in tomorrow’s NFL draft and four other picks among the Top 65, the Jaguars are about to load up on talent for new coach Urban Meyer.

”We’re looking at hope, optimism,” Khan said, via the Florida Times-Union. ”I mean Jacksonville, obviously, our psyche is wrapped up in where we are. If this isn’t a moment to enjoy for me to enjoy and for all the Jags fans, you need more coffee. Or you need something else. This is a great-to-be-alive kind of moment, frankly.”

Khan said he’s hoping that Jacksonville fans are relishing this moment as much as he is.

“We’ve been through ups and downs, mostly downs. Now you’re looking at a great upside,” Khan said.

With Meyer coaching Trevor Lawrence, Khan thinks the Jaguars are heading in a new direction.

  1. In 27 years as a Jags fan, the draft has always been our biggest day. We have watched you fumble EVERY SINGLE PICK for 27 years. I left Jax last year for a job in Tampa. Although I wish them well, they are snakebit. Go Bucs.

  2. This guy has a bottom of the barrel soccer team. His new wrestling program is a laughing stock as they’re constantly on blooper reels for screw ups and his NFL franchise is picking first (which isn’t a good thing) and he just hired an overrated college coach with a history of walking off the job after scandals in his last two jobs whose already had one sandal here and hasn’t even coached a game yet.

Man I wish I knew what it was like to be so rich I’m never held accountable for anything. According to Forbes his net worth went up in 2020.

  3. Nobody likes to watch a weak kid get beaten up year after year after year but when the poor kid does stuff like hire a hc with zero professional hc experience and draft qb with zero offensive line or targets to throw to, you begin to wonder do they like it…

  4. A few responses to those above:

Shad Khan has not owned the Jaguars for 27 years.

How on earth could you think Urban Meyer is overrated?

You guys talk about Shad Khan like he’s a failure? He’s like the 4th richest owner in the NFL.

  5. The London Jags will have next year for another top 3 pick. And the year after that. And the…

Don’t worry, you will never know what that is like. Neither will any of the other people bashing Shad Khan. He’ll always be richer and more successful than his haters, and those haters will always be jealous of him.

  8. Meyer was never a dope. He had built a vast area from Texas to Florida to the Midwest recruiting machine, picking and choosing the best players in college, of course he was going to be a winner.
Now he sits with great picks, a solid team, good coaching staff and will of course do well, which is saying, you have great players, you win games. Jax will be a contender. He didnt take offers from teams in serious rebuilding modes did he.

  9. The Khans, especially the younger one, love their celebrities. Poor Trevor Lawrence will probably end up in some dopey wrestling angle alongside Tony Khan before he ends up in the playoffs.
