Saints trying to trade up to Top 10

The Saints want to trade up in tonight’s first round. Way up.

New Orleans, which currently owns the 28th overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft, is trying to trade up into the Top 10, according to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports.

Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis has said he doesn’t see many holes on the roster, which means he’d rather get one player he’s confident can come in and start as a rookie than draft multiple players for roster depth.

The obvious position the Saints would like to address is cornerback, where they lost Janoris Jenkins in free agency. Trading up into the Top 10 would give the Saints their choice of the best corners, which on most draft boards means either Patrick Surtain II or Jaycee Horn.

It’s unclear how much the Saints would be willing to give up to move from No. 28 to the Top 10. It would likely require giving up both their second-round pick this year and their first-round pick next year.

  1. If you think a 2nd and next year’s first will take them from 28 to the top ten, I have a bridge for sale in Brooklyn

  2. If the guy they covet drops to 14, I 100% guarantee slick Rick would do that deal.

  3. legacy pick Jaycee Horn bet on it

They just realized that they don’t have a QB

The Saints have their version of Jameis Winston
The Cowboys have their version of Jameis Winston

  5. Lions want to trade down from #7, but all the way down to #28? It’s going to take a lot more than a second and next year’s first to get it done. But it could be done.

Lions have a lot of improvements to make and on their timeline, they can make those upgrades over more than just one off-season. If the Saints are willing to give up draft picks this year and next, they could pry #7 from Detroit.

    Either does New England.
    How does it feel?
    Welcome to the club!

  7. Reality must be setting in that they are SURELY DOOMED relying on the poor QB talent they have!

  8. With first round picks having a 50% bust rate, trading up that high for anything else then a QB (hoping Fields drops), which is still very risky hello niners, is how franchises are destroyed for years. Maybe they could trade coaches with Dallas several ones or twos and throw in Mike (who can be the fall guy for unwinding their cap mess aka rebuilding) for Sean, which most can agree is one of the missing parts for Dallas to be good.

  9. As a Saints fan, PLEASE NO!!!!!

Where did you find Michael Thomas? In the 2nd round.

Where did you find Alvin Kamara? In the 3rd round.

Trading up, like the report suggests, is fool’s gold.

  10. Winston threw for 5100 yards in 2019 with bad eyesight.
In 2020 he had Lasik Surgery, and a Study year in the Saints Office.
Winston will have a monster season for the Saints in 2021

  11. The Rams sent first-round picks in 2020 and 2021 and a fourth-round pick in 2021. The Jaguars took LSU linebacker K’Lavon Chaisson with the 20th pick in the 2020 draft so add to that pick #25 tonight and the thrown in 4th rounder…I guarantee it will look like a lopsided trade in favor of LA…point being, why worry about a first round pick being a bust or not, use them to get proven players in their prime…the ONLY drawback is the CAP ramifications…..
