The Washington Football Team made a surprising selection with the 19th overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft.

Washington’s pick was Kentucky linebacker Jamin Davis. Plenty of mock drafts didn’t have him as a first-round pick; he was projected to go 29th to the Packers in ours.

Davis was only a starter for one year, but he has shown himself to be an impressive athlete, and the kind of player that many observers think is only going to improve with NFL experience.

Washington coach Ron Rivera is clearly among those who think Davis is going to improve, and Rivera thought Davis was worth the 19th overall pick. Even if few others did.

  1. Rivera knows defense. Maybe they could have got him in the second round (even a trade up early in the second), but he’s in good hands to develop into a beast

  2. Stop the presses! Washington Football Team makes a move all their competitors shake their collective heads at, then smile, and embrace the benefits for their own draft boards.

  3. This guy didn’t get a lot of pre-draft press, I followed it quite a bit and never heard of this guy…

Ok, so he’s the next coming of ?

  5. NFL Network said his player comp is Darius Leonard. If he becomes anywhere near the player that Leonard is, nobody will care where he was projected.

  6. PFF rated 1st-rounder Jamin Davis as the most-athletic LB in the draft.

ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. had Davis as the 14th-best prospect overall. “The fact that he can cover. He has great range. He tested out very well. He’s very instinctive. He’s a really nice player.”
