Aaron Rodgers says something, sort of, about his situation

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has let his fingers do the talking.

Rodgers, who has said nothing about his situation with the Packers, clicked the “like” button on the Monday tweet from receiver Davante Adams that created a stir: “Gotta appreciate what u got while ya got it!

It’s unclear whether Adams was saying that he may no longer have one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time throwing passes to him, or whether (looking at the situation more broadly) the Packers and their fans should get ready for what’s coming, because Rodgers may indeed be moving on.

Or maybe it has nothing to do with football altogether. Often, general observations like this are regarded as having specific meaning when maybe they don’t. Sometimes, players fully intend for those general remarks to send a specific message, while also being able to later say that that they were doing no such thing — even if they were.

Ultimately, perhaps that’s why Rodgers liked the tweet. If that’s what Adams was doing, he may have learned that move from Rodgers.

  1. That’s what you call Rodgers in his own words? He liked a tweet? If this is a power grab, ala Favre, send him packing. No one player is bigger than the team. Nobody.

  2. It could also be that Davante was saying Rodgers should appreciate having such a good team around him, including the best receiver in football.

I’d love to see the “get Rodgers some help!” crowd if he’s traded to the Raiders.

  3. When it comes to this Rodgers situation, truly, those who say do not know; those who know do not say.

  4. Just remember Packer fans, you dont have Rodgers, you will turn into the Jets

  5. Rogers is possibly the most overrated player in the last 15 years, btw what has he won in the last 10?

  6. What a prima donna playing games and dropping hints. The only thing missing is Bus Cook. Great QB on the field, but give me a break with this middle school drama.

  7. Rodgers is acting like a little school girl. I seriously hope the Packers brass call his bluff. Still upset about the Bucs blowing his doors off in the playoffs.

  8. I have a ton of respect for Rodgers because of what he does on the field. What he does during the off season and on social media is irrelevant and over blown. Could it be that his frustration is not due to the drafting of Love at all? Take a look at Packers draft for, say, the last 10 years. They have done almost nothing in the first three rounds to protect him. I would be salty too.

  9. At this point, I kind of hope Rodgers just retires. He’s probably one of the 10 best QBs ever to have played the game (certainly in the top 15). If he leaves, GB will be sorry and realize how foolish they’ve been in managing their teams with him.

Rodgers gets a bad rap. He wasn’t highly recruited out of high school and had to play junior college to get into a D1 program. Then he had his draft slide. People have always underestimated him and it seems few football people really believed in him. No wonder he is suspicious of many coaches’/GMs’ abilities!

It’s funny to me that someone like Drew Brees is beloved. Yet Brees’ usually well-stacked teams have had the same post-season success as Rodgers’ teams. Brees is never considered to be an under-achiever, though Rodgers sometimes is.

No, Rodgers is not some rah-rah guy. He has a different personality. But he’s a tough competitor who wants to win more championships. Not sure why that turns people off.

  10. It’s unclear whether Adams was saying that he may no longer have one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time throwing passes to him,
    ————————–
He’s not even the greatest Packer QB of all-time.
    Starr & Favre were better.

  11. It’s unclear whether Adams was saying that he may no longer have one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time throwing passes to him, or whether (looking at the situation more broadly) the Packers and their fans should get ready for what’s coming, because Rodgers may indeed be moving on.

Or it could be a message to 12 that if he leaves, there’s a good chance he’ll be walking into a situation that will be worse than what he has now.

  12. Maybe he was saying Rodgers should appreciate having him instead of looking to go elsewhere.

  13. Watson breathes a sigh of releif. Says he owes Rodgers and thanks him profusely.

  14. Watson breathes a sigh of relief. Says he owes Rodgers and thanks him profusely.

  15. In case some of you missed it, the Packers drafted a QB in the first round last year even though they had other immediate needs. I don’t know why all the attention is being given to Rodgers. The team pulled the plug on the relationship. They’re just being deceptive with their approach. They don’t want the PR fallout when Aaron leaves. Imagine Rodgers in a super bowl wearing a different jersey. Well, just in case you missed it, go back and read the results of the first round of the 2020 NFL draft. That wasn’t Aaron’s choice. Why’s everyone asking him what he’s doing? The team showed us their plans. Whoever made that pick hasn’t been fired, so it was an organizational decision.

  16. I saw Aaron Rodgers at am/pm. He was looking at baked beans. Baked beans start with B. B is the 2nd letter in the alphabet. 2+2=4. There are 4 Ninja Turtles.

Obvious what he plans on doing. It’s all right there. (Am I a reporter now, too?)

  17. This sums up the times we’re living in. “He liked a post.” Now let’s all sit around and psychologically interpret what that could possibly mean.

  18. He can kiss Jeopardy goodbye, IMO, his antics this week probably are not going to sit well with many fans and the NBC suits are going to notice it.

  19. Aaron Rodgers one of the best QBs to ever play. Anyone with an IQ above Forrest Gump (in the book) appreciates that. Stupid to think anyone other than maybe Tom Brady can replace him (no one else even close currently). GB a bit hamstrung in that a number of teams have given QBs stupid contracts (none of whom win it when they do) and only natural he would want more. But the team/franchise also goes on beyond the time he can play (they drafted him when they had Favre). So there is a natural friction.

  20. Aaron liked the tweet and it’s Davante sending a message to everyone which was received. It’s a message to the Packers brass, but also a message to all.

No player plays the game forever and Aaron will not either. Aaron and Davante are close and Davante is saying let’s do this together as long as we can, appreciate our time together because it’s not forever.

  21. To me it looks more like “Hey Green Bay Packers, appreciate what you have in Rodgers, and stop jerking him around”.

But this isnt as juicy as the other two angles…

  22. I honestly don’t get what Rogers issue is….
He seems to be acting like a child here…
Why can’t he either get if worked out BEHIND the scenes or drop a nut sack & actually SAY what the issues are??!!
OR maybe he’s just a self absorbed Diva that thinks the world revolves around him & it’s his way or the highway…..
Ps: he really wasn’t that impressive on Jeopardy….

  23. Just go away. I know the Packers won’t nearly as good when he leaves. I dont want a guy who is posion on the team. I am not convinced Rodgers is all in as he says he is. Look at the NFC championship game he could have ran the ball in for a TD, but didn’t.

  24. I think what he meant to say was … me, me, me … over here … look at meeeeeee.

  25. Rodgers ego is too big for GB. As a lifelong Packer fan it’s time to move on and collect the draft picks from trading him. Letting his fued with the front office come to a boil on draft day was selfish .

  26. I quit watching ESPN when they couldn’t stop talking about what people were tweeting. Looks like this site is heading that same direction. My advice is to stop being lazy and find the story, not tell us what people tweet or even worse who “likes” those tweets.

  27. He’s a good quarterback like manning, brees, Russell, etc. Unfortunately for him and other good quarterback, brady is good too and will work for less money. That slight discount on Brady’s salary has allowed new England and now tampa to gain a slight advantage relative to other teams. That small advantage has been enough to win brady a lot of rings. Weird that other quarterbacks think that the gm is the problem or draft picks. How many star wide receivers did new England draft? How many quarterback did they draft? You suck up all the salary cap, then you are working at a disadvantage. Cowboy will see this as well.

  28. Unlike the rest of the fan base, when he’s insufferable he doesn’t have to PRETEND he had something to do with the team’s success.

  29. First the never ending RW3 trade bs, and now clinging to every little possibility of a headline with Rogers. This is just bad reporting.

  30. It’s unclear whether Adams was saying that he may no longer have one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time throwing passes to him, or whether (looking at the situation more broadly) the Packers and their fans should get ready for what’s coming, because Rodgers may indeed be moving on.
    —–
Umm….so it’s not clear if Adams meant Rodgers wouldn’t be throwing him passes next year or if he meant Rodgers would be moving on. Not sure why it’s phrased as though those are two different outcomes?

Perhaps that tweet was actually directed squarely at management. That might make more sense in your if and or scenario.

  31. I would be more worried about the coach who doesn’t care about super bowls.

  32. Sorry Green Bay, Rodgers is just not that into you.

  33. Post June 1st – Rodgers to the Saints. The South will get very interesting with the aging QBs haggling over the turf. Payton can manage AR, has the backup in place and can survive the cost with creative financing and draft pick manipulation over the next 3 years. AR will love NO, not California but it will suit his ego just fine and bring another title to the Aints in year 2 of his slide to retirement. I know this because of my future gazing into a snow globe. GB waves goodbye.

  34. If the Packers’ GM decides to cut Aaron Rodgers rather than trade him — colossally stupid, but this is a hypothetical — Rodgers would get nothing for the final two years of his contract. Management would not “honor” the contract they had with Rodgers. So can we stop haranguing Rodgers about not honoring HIS side of the contract? Please.

Rogers is possibly the most overrated player in the last 15 years, btw what has he won in the last 10?

    _________________________________________________________________________________________

I do believe that is his point… He can’t do it all by his self. Now. I do not care for him. Not a fan of the Pack either but quite honestly for all of his arrogant attitudes and everything else that comes with him, he has carried that team and a bunch of ragtag team mates for years. He has made most of his average receivers into who they are. That is why they seem to hit on random guys. Rogers is making their careers just like Manning did with his average guys for the Colts back in the day. If he leaves. This team will be bad for quite a while. You will be the next Patriots.

  36. I’d suggested once that Rodgers pull a Brady and negotiate a shorter term, no-cap, no-trade deal, sacrificing some money to do so. Sadly, it looks like it’s far too late for that. I’m also getting the impression that Packers management wants anything but that.

Here’s the problem as I see it. Rodgers’ current contract binds him to the Packers (unless traded, and the contract does not have a “no-trade” clause), but the Packers can cut or trade him at any time. So he’s bound to the Packers for the next three seasons, but they’re not bound to him except for whatever cap considerations they deem relevant.

Then, they draft Love. And then, despite an MVP year, they don’t want to modify his contract to make it less one-sided. And finally, comes the realization that the Packers organization has never prioritized either Rodgers’ weapons or his protection over the past decades. This lapse becomes glaringly apparent when they draft Love, but no receivers in 2020.

    Yeah, I’d want out too.

  37. Judas, Marino played all those years with average talent around him and zero running game and never complained once. Granted social media was not rampant but he could of easily squeaked out some comments when the mics were in his face. Rodgers is one of the best, but he sure comes across as a chump.

  40. The Green Bay whiner isn’t going anywhere. Rodgers is in the wrong here and even Florio has admitted Packer fans are turning on Rodgers. I’m impressed with Rodgers ability to “like” a tweet. I’m thinking this Rodgers’ melodrama ends with either him playing for the Pack this year or retiring. I wonder if Rodgers “liked” the 2021 Roster Bonus: $6.8M (paid the 3rd league day of 2021, 3/19/21.) I also wonder if he “liked” the $6,800,000 he just received for being on the Packers’ roster or the $.5M he gets if he attends workouts. Talk about absurd. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/green-bay-packers/aaron-rodgers-3745/

  42. Bit of a reach by PFT.

Plain meaning of the tweet, ““Gotta appreciate what u got while ya got it!,” would be to appreciate Rodgers while he is still in GB — which could be one day or one year or one decade.

  43. Rodgers thinks the whole NFL will fold without him….yeah…..nope.

  44. Terry Bradshaw said it a nutshell! I loved his comments about Rodgers! You’ve been paid to do your job on the field so quit your whining and go play for the team that’s paying you! If you don’t want to play for a championship team that you signed with then retire and give back the 44 mil and never play again just like Barry Sanders did!! And I hope Jeopardy doesn’t give you the host job as you don’t deserve it as your just a drama queen!

If you’ve got something to say, man up and say it.
    ==================================

First of all, you have no idea if he has made his thoughts known to the Packers’ coaches and front office.

Second, it’s not in anyone’s best interest for him to speak publicly about what he thinks. There is still a chance he’ll play in GB and there’s no way he wants to completely burn that bridge. If you come out publicly and say “The GB front office is run by a bunch of dimwits and I have no respect for them.” then the relationship is over.

No need for Rodgers to do that. At least not when he still might be playing for them next season. And if he did say that, GB would certainly need to get rid of him.

  46. Twitter is the fuel of offseason “news”. See a like? Yep, thats a 500 word article. And I read the whole thing like a chump.

You and me both brother. Then we commented. I came back to see what others thought of my comment, then made another. I think we really need football season to start.

  50. Rodgers legacy will be that of a QB that was amazing in the regular season, and squandered many opportunities in the playoffs. Oh, and of course, that he was a whiny jerk that players hated playing with. Yes, I said it. Don’t mistake teammates being grateful for his talents as liking to play with him.

  51. Rodgers is acting like a little school girl. I seriously hope the Packers brass call his bluff. Still upset about the Bucs blowing his doors off in the playoffs.
    ——
Nope. Most of the fan base thinks the team is being mean to poor ol’ $30 million a year Aaron. They think it’s ok to whine about draft picks, etc.

Remember, Aaron got Mike McCarthy fired. It’s all about Aaron, sad to say.

  52. The Pack will never have a coach/quarterback/running back/WR/etc/etc as good as our Vikings have. They’ve brought so many Lombardi trophies home to Minny.

  53. I kind of take sides with Rodgers considering the fiasco Farve went through, its like deja vu all over again.
Look the packers have to play cheap ball. They are the only team without a deep pocket owner. Seems to me they are hell bent on timing, dont want to pay big bucks to someone who is out the door not playing.
I think that is the crux of this, they are timing his abilities with the extension and Rodgers is seeing the exit door because of it.
I agree that no player rules the team. If he retires then fine, he put his feelings where his mouth was and walked away.

  54. He also liked this McAfee tweet: Aaron looks incredibly happy DAHN at The Derby… BUT can we please not get distracted from the real story here

Oh Mighty Zoltar… Please tell us what that like meant.

    ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
You don’t get the issue? The Packers made it to the NFC Championship game two seasons ago and lost. Their biggest needs heading into the draft are OT and WR. How do they make up those weak areas to help propel the team to the SB? They trade up and draft a QB in the first round. A QB who didn’t even dress for a single game last season. Talk about value added. This was the start of the fracture.

  56. Rodgers is a 1-ring diva, but if you’re obsessed with what message he was sending by *liking a tweet* you have the mentality of a teenage girl

  57. All this VIRTUE SIGNALLING from commenters are pathetic.

As for Terry Bradshaw’s take, back in February, he was asked about the possibility of Steelers trading for Deshaun Watson: “Wow, boy I would,” Bradshaw said. “If that’s what they wanted to do. Deshaun Watson, he’s one of the top five quarterbacks in this league. Yeah, whew. Yeah, man alive.”

    Hypocrite.

  58. “Just remember Packer fans, you dont have Rodgers, you will turn into the Jets.” thats hogwash,do you really believe that Rodgers was a one man team all this time, going 13-3 two years in a row and getting to the NFC Championship game.? one might even say that Rodgers was the main reason they lost those two games if you watch all his mistakes at crucial moments in the game.the Packers have built a very strong team around AR and those players are still their fighting to win.the Jets indeed, get real.

  59. I never liked Rodgers attitude on the field, I always had the impression that he enjoyed making fun of his opponents… But MAN what a QB he is! His out of this world accuracy, scrambling ability and the throws he made under pressure… WOW!!! He made average WRs look like Hall of Famers!
    – This coming from a Vikings fan…

  60. Christopher Allan says: “You don’t get the issue? The Packers made it to the NFC Championship game two seasons ago and lost. Their biggest needs heading into the draft are OT and WR. How do they make up those weak areas to help propel the team to the SB?”
    —————————

Well, considering Rodgers just completed 70.7% (up from 62%) of his passes for 4,300 yards and 48 TD (up from 26), the receivers WERE NOT an area of weakness, but just needed a little more time to get better.

Same with OT. Sacks dropped in half in 2020 and advanced stats says he had almost +.80 seconds more time to throw. So clearly, the offensive line got better WITHOUT the need to draft one.

So the GM was RIGHT to keep the existing OT and WR.

  61. Can’t figure out what the issue is with Rodgers.

    Most likely his new girlfriend

Rodgers crying that he has no weapons…

Probably has the best receiver in the league
MVS went for 114 and a TD in the NFC Championship
    His TE scored 11 TDs
    Aaron Jones had 11 TDs
O-Line is one of the best in the league with Jenkins, Bhaktiari and Turner

Defense was upgraded bigly in 2019
Jaire Alexander is one of the best CBs in the league
Kenny Clark and Zadarius Smith–great players

    RE: NFC Championship

Brady giftwrapped 3 INTs to GB including back to back possessions

    What did Rodgers do?

He went 3 and out both times on those back to back picks

  62. Or maybe Adams was throwing support to Rodgers as his own contract is up after this year, and Rodgers also has a potential out.

  63. We are here at this crossroad because our one guy our GM is such an INCOMPETENT even me
an intelligent fan could run circles around this boob !
The lazy lying media love this it’s easy for them to spread lies and hate is what they
live for some fox lazy late night radio moron named Ben ( the duck ) Mallared admitted it
he can spread his lies .

  64. To me old trumpster Farve is dead to me his jersey went into the trash can .

  65. The big question this offseason why the Packers coach elected to kick the field goal. The correct answer is because his QB didn’t come close to scoring on his first three tries.

  66. Rodgers playoff record is 11-9 with 1 Super Bowl win. Drew Brees is 9-9 with 1 Super Bowl win. Joe Flacco is 10-5 with 1 Super Bowl win. Rodgers and Brees are always mentioned as certain Hall of Famers, Flacco never. There are only 9 NFL QBs who have playoff records 5 games or more over .500. Neither Rodgers or Brees are on that list. Seven of the nine are in the Hall of Fame. Tom Brady and Joe Flacco are not. Who’s overrated? Who’s not?

  67. Green Bay’s GM gave Rodgers a top RB, top WR, top OL, decent defense, and they’ve had sustained success in the playoff’s – there are a lot of teams/fans that would love to have what they’ve put together there. Rodgers can whine his way out of there but there are very few organizations that are as well run as GB – speaking as a Cowboy’s fan, I would know.

  68. As long as Rodgers wants to play football, GB has the leverage. If Rodgers cares about his own legacy or winning a championship, he has to know that he only has a few years left. He made his move to try to get to SF before the draft and GB didn’t blink. Maybe they could trade him but I think the window to do so has passed. I think he will ultimately have to play next year in GB or sit out and I don’t think he wants to sit out.

  69. I always laugh when idiots compare anyone to Brady. They spout statistics and fantasy point crap out of their mouths for all the other QB losers. It comes down to one thing for me. Did you win the game? Did you win in the post season? Did you win titles? Did you play at your best in the biggest games of your career. Brady has won 7 SUPER BOWLS ! Then the talk of Mahomes or Rodgers as greatest ever. Brady has beaten Mahomes both times they played in post season. Last year he beat Brees And Rogers as underdogs on the road. Then he beat Mahomes in SB. When he finally retires he will also own every passing record for you stat geeks.

Get a brain people. He has beaten everyone and he is STILL PLAYING at 44 !
Never been anyone as great and there never will be. Period. GOAT

  70. If you ask Adams which meaning his tweet had, he would probably say “yeah, dat, man” each time you offered a plausible interpretation. These guys say things that are so vague that they haven’t even thought through what they actually mean while they’re saying it.

And Rodgers “liking” it could just mean that he likes Adams, not that he knew what Adams meant.

  71. akira1971 is right. The Packers NOT succumbing to the casual fan mentality that they “MUST DRAFT WR & OL” in the 2020 draft proved 100% correct. Brian Gutekunst knew exactly the talent he had on his roster, how they developed, and what level of play they would bring to the table. Helping your QB complete 4,200+ yards and nearly 50 TDs… I’d say the WRs and OL were a STRENGTH to the team, not a deficiency as so many have suggested. People are insane. Do your research and look at the facts before repeating ESPN headlines.

  72. He wanted to have the Packers re-sign Lindsley! He was willing to redo his contract adding a year on to what he has now! Packers said no! That says they don’t want him around for more than 2 years at most! Why should he go out this year and bust his ass to win the Super bowl this year so they can get a kings ransom for him letting him go on their terms? That was a slap in the face taking Love without even letting him know last year! Why should he do them a favor? what have they given him, Nothing! He’s the MVP of the whole league. Is that how you do your star player?

In absolutely no shape or form were the wr a strength. Because Rodgers played well/put up numbers then your trying to work your way back from your predetermined conclusion. MVS with his repeated drops, ESB who cant stay healthy, and a body with no athleticism name Lazard does not equal a strength, perhaps you should do your research and take off the homer glasses of “the team is always right”. As for its offensive line yes the left side to center was a huge strength for them in Bakhtiari, Jenkins and Linsley but the right side was a glaring weakness all season a d they could have used depth considering they knew they likely wouldn’t be able to sign Bakhtiari and Linsley.
As for you propping up Akira1971 he is doing exactly what your doing, trying to start with their conclusion and saying “well see Rodgers did this and that so they must be strength” which just isnt true

This comment is so wrong, outdated and ignorant as to be impressive. No one player is bigger than the team? Maybe. But the Packers, as well as everyone else, know that they’re a 4 win team without Rodgers and a 13 team with him. He isn’t bigger than the team. He is the team. Same reason the Colts ent 12-4 with Manning and the year he was hurt ended up with the 1st pick in the draft. The team didn’t forget how to play football, they lost Manning.

Rodgers gets what he wants. He knows he has pwer over the Packers. Without him they’re awful. He knows it, they know it and the fans know it. You just sound like sour grapes. Suck it up. This is reality in football now.

He can’t coach up players, and his scheme is well past its shelf life. He is one of the worst big-game coaches in the history of this League.

  79. No receiver ever left Green Bay for success elsewhere. He makes the tight ends and receivers- not vice versa. Terry Bradshaw is not that bright. His comments about Rodgers embracing competition with Jordan Love misses the point. Aaron is not afraid of anyone. He wants to win and wanted that 1st round pick go toward someone who could help the team.

  80. When someone finally understands Rodgers’ Nostradamus Quatrains, please let us know.

  81. No receiver ever left Green Bay for success elsewhere.
    ==========

    Driver retired
Nelson was never the same after that knee injury
Cobb was a shell of himself, even in his last couple years in GB
    James Jones was always meh

I think Jennings was the only guy with a real shot

.. It was pretty amazing what Rodgers got out of that group last year. The scheme is very impressive as well. You can tell there were times the defense just had no idea what was coming. I’ve rarely seen players so wide open.

  82. That Love pick sure hasn’t aged well. It looked bad at the time but somehow has gotten worse. I think Rodgers is over reacting a bit but I really think the Packers are to blame for a lot of this. They know Rodgers personality better than anybody and they could not see this coming? It was a really big blind spot in relationship management of their best player to make that pick without giving him a heads up. They know that he doesn’t take slights well and can be vindictive, he was motivated just enough to have an MVP season and then turn on them and make them look like fools. That is pretty much what I would do if my company took me for granted, I would be motivated to really make them miss me as I planned my departure. It is human nature.

  83. For anyone that doesn’t watch the Pat McAfee Show on YouTube, there’s a recent upload where AJ Hawk gives his take on the situation. He was just recently with Aaron and said that this whole mess has nothing to do with Jordan Love and is a culmination of many different things over a period of time. All of the pontificating talking heads blaming Rodgers for insecurity re: Jordan Love need to try again.
All that being said, I’m not a Packers fan, so I’ve got zero skin in the fight- just passing on what many may have missed elsewhere.
