Eagles G.M. Howie Roseman has explained the incident that resulted in images of an awkward exchange between himself and senior director of player personnel Tom Donahoe. Now, Donahoe has shared his side of the story.

Via Chris Mortensen of ESPN.com, Donahoe said that he was flabbergasted by the viral video, and by the fact that it’s being characterized as a sign of discord.

Of course, it is a sign of discord.

That’s silly,” Donahoe told Mortensen. “I didn’t even know I was on camera. I thought Howie and [V.P. of player personnel] Andy Weidl led as good a draft as we’ve had in my 10 years.”

The fact that Donahoe didn’t know he was on camera makes the moment even more real. It’s obvious to anyone with eyes that Donahoe and Roseman had a strange moment, and Roseman has since made it clear that Donahoe didn’t want the Eagles to trade down from No. 70 to No. 73, especially since the guy Donahoe wanted was drafted in the interim.

So here was something to it. Donahoe may not like that it became something, but it did. Because it was. If anything, Donahoe’s side of the story underscores it.

  1. It looked awkward but that’s it. There is no audio so you can’t make any definitive conclusion. Even if there was a draft choice disagreement, you are making a mountain out of a molehill.

  2. In truth, if a guy really feels snubbed, he doesn’t act like Howie did. He pretends nothing happened and skulks away. But Howie gives the old “you kiddin’ me?” gesture, which seems in good humor to me. Howie’s explanation of things doesn’t really detract from that.

It does seem like we’re all making a much bigger deal out of this than it is in reality.

Except Howie Roseman came out and said this is what happened🤷‍♂️

  4. The Eagles didn’t go off the board to draft ht/wt/speed guys that can’t play like they did last year so really there’s no issue here. Howie likes to massage the board to get extra picks and that can mean you’ll lose your top guy on the board which is what happened. Donahue was disappointed and just being real.

  5. After reading about how dysfunctional the Eagles front office is and how the scouts have been surprised by the team’s picks, it isn’t surprising there would be bad feelings internally about draft moves.

  6. Donahoe has worked with Howie for over 10 years. I am sure that they’ve have had plenty of disagreements. This one just happened to be caught on camera. Probably not a big deal. That being said, the Eagles have not been good at drafting since Howie took over. It’s time for Jeffrey Lurie to hand the keys over to Andy Weidl.

  7. There’s no reason to expect everyone in the draft room to be 100% in agreement on every pick. If I was pushing for a guy and the decision was to do something else, I would go along with what the boss wants but I wouldn’t necessarily feel like fist bumping him.

  8. Didn’t know he might be on camera? There are 8 billion cameras out there, even bigfoot is laying low.
