Last May, Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre faced serious questions about receiving $1.1 million in Mississippi welfare funds for work he didn’t do. This May, he hasn’t paid back the full amount of the money.

Via the Associated Press, Mississippi authorities confirmed on Tuesday that Favre has not yet paid back $600,000 that he promised to pay a year ago.

Favre promptly paid back large chunk of the money when the issue first arose.

“After the initial media dustup, he stroked a check for $500 grand and gave a commitment, a voluntary commitment, to repay the rest in the coming months,” Logan Reeves, a spokesman for Mississippi Auditor Shad White, told the AP. “And then, that didn’t happen.”

Favre, the AP notes, has not been accused of any crime.

Mississippi Today reported last week that Favre had not yet paid the remaining $600,000. Favre has yet to address the situation; a new episode of his weekly podcast has yet to debut.

  1. This is not Favre’s fault. His check writing wrist hurts, and he is simply waiting for the copper infused technology to work its’ magic.

  2. Kudos to PFT for keeping the pressure on Brett.

Do the right thing Favre, for once.

  3. He has plenty to say about other peoples situations, but nothing when it comes to his own indiscretions.

  4. He’s got people for that. Someone in his employ needs to get on the ball. They are making Brett look bad.

  5. You guys probably don’t realize he is still waiting on his stimulus check.

  6. Perhaps Brett should refrain from complaining about politics in sports until he gets his own affairs in order.

  7. I guess it’s alright to mix sports and politics when you’re getting a handout.

  8. He steals from the most impoverished state in the Union and then tells us what a bad guy Rodgers is. Got it.

and Rodgers may be a bad guy for all I know.

But pay back the poor people of Mississippi before casting shadows on anyone else.

  9. Favre isn’t bright but he knows better. Nearly 90% of people who filed for welfare in MS were denied. I suspect that number would be lower had Favre refused to accept welfare funds for speaking engagements he didn’t perform.

There are a lot of pro athletes who would give that speech for nothing knowing the speaking fee means there is less to feed and care for even one family. Favre needs to do the right thing.

Remember Brent, we will never forget you!

  10. He seemed like a good guy in “What About Mary”. Maybe that was his peak.

  11. He offered to do several more imaginary appearances for them. And his notes from the pretend meeting about it say they said that was okay. What more is the guy supposed to do?

  12. I’m not sure the lack of payment has anything to do with intelligence, but instead everything to do with tightwaddedness.

  13. What did you expect from a man who has 2 and 1/2 NFL MVP Awards. Note that if two people share the same award it only counts as !/2.
