Ravens linebacker Patrick Queen is joining the club of players who are switching to single-digit jersey numbers in the wake of the NFL’s rule change allowing for players other than quarterbacks, kickers and punters to wear them.

Queen posted a shot of himself in a No. 6 jersey on Twitter Tuesday. Queen wore No. 48 during his rookie season.

League rules require players changing uniform numbers to buy up the existing stock of jerseys with their former number.

The 2020 first-round pick wore No. 8 while he was playing at LSU, but Lamar Jackson‘s presence in Baltimore means that number was unavailable to him.

No other Ravens players have announced plans to switch to single digits. The team does have No. 1 and No. 5 available if someone else decides to follow in Queen’s footsteps.

  1. Remember back in the day when you could buy a players jersey and feel confident that player would be around for awhile. Not anymore. I stopped buying player jerseys around 2013. There just isn’t any reason to anymore.

That’s exactly why I only wear my retro Brady Michigan jersey.

  3. I don’t think the rules make sense to have the player buy out the unsold stock of existing jerseys from retailers without some trade-in accommodation made for fans who’ve already bought their jersey. After all, these are the fans who have already shelled out money on that player and shouldn’t be ignored. I think I read that they have to pay full retail for them. Forget the retailers and jersey manufacturers, they’ll have plenty of opportunity to make it up on the new ones. Donate the unsold stock to charity or homeless shelters or third-world nations for fan goodwill instead.

  4. @ thebrownswillalwaysloose, that’s why I always buy the Chinese knockoff jerseys. They’re still really nice.

  5. Am I the only ” get off my lawn guy” who thinks LBs, CBs a SS/FSs wearing single digits is stupid?

  6. Changing his number isn’t gonna change him from being the NFL’s softest LB.

So true. Now it’s just the team colors for me. I got a Ravens CJ Mosley jersey I’ll sell cheap if anyone wants it.
