Andy Reid: Jarran Reed was a “good get”

The Chiefs rebuilt offensive line has received most of the attention when it comes to Kansas City’s trenches this offseason.

But there was one particularly valuable signing on the Chiefs’ defensive line.

Kansas City added tackle Jarran Reed on a $5 million deal after Reed rejected the Seahawks’ offer to restructure his deal. That addition is significant for plenty of reasons, including the fact that it will allow the Chiefs to line up Chris Jones at defensive end more often.

“He doesn’t spell his name quite right, but he sure plays right,” head coach Andy Reid said of Reed, via Nate Taylor of TheAthletic.com. “That signing right there was a good get, and I think will pay off for us in a real big way this season. He gives us flexibility with what we can do with Chris. You’re talking about a Pro Bowl-caliber player.”

Reed started all 16 games for the Seahawks last season, recording 6.5 sacks, five tackles for loss, and 14 quarterback hits. He also had a pair of sacks and three TFLs in Seattle’s playoff loss to the Rams.

In all, Reed has 22.0 sacks, 22 tackles for loss, and 58 QB hits since Seattle drafted him in the second round of the 2016 draft.

  1. Can’t wait to see this Chiefs team in action. Training camp can’t get here soon enough.

  2. Hopefully this is the year that the Chiefs and Andy Reid unleash hell on the rest of the NFL. No more just do enough to win the game crap, full pedal to the metal for the entire game every game. I wanna see multiple 50 burgers put up, send a message to the rest of the league who think they have caught up to the Chiefs.

  3. This is a make shift and overpaid line that will perform below average. Pat will be running for his life all season long. This will be a very long season for the chefs 7-10 at best.

  4. A makeshift line? With a 24 year old probowler, a 6 time pro bowler, a 3 time pro lower, a doctor, and the top rookie C in the draft? Sign me up for anything that you think is “makeshift”

  5. would be nice to see the defense not rely on mahomes putting up 30 points a game.
    .
lot of under achieving last year, especially when you look at the price tag of a few of these vets.
    .
    maybe spag needs to go.

  6. This is a solid player they were able to acquire at a decent price. The Chiefs have improved their roster a lot this off-season, and they were a top team before that all happened. They’ll be in contention once again, and should be the favorite to win the super bowl.
