Bettors putting money on Tim Tebow under 2.5 touchdowns prop bet in Las Vegas

Plenty of people have money to spend on Tim Tebow‘s NFL comeback, whether they’re buying his jerseys or betting against him.

At Station Casinos in Las Vegas, a prop bet of Tebow scoring over or under 2.5 touchdowns for the Jaguars this season got far more action than player prop bets typically get at this time of year, and about five times as much money has been bet on the under as the over.

“The interest has absolutely exceeded my expectations,” Station Casinos sportsbook director Chuck Esposito told David Purdum of ESPN. “I thought 2.5 was low myself. But the bettors have liked the under so far. It’s generated a tremendous amount of interest, chatter, water cooler talk and some limit bets.”

An important caveat is that Tebow has to play for the Jaguars in Week One or else all bets regarding his season totals will be canceled and the money refunded. Tebow is viewed as a long shot to make the Jaguars’ roster, so the most likely result is that none of this betting results in any payoffs, or any losses.

  1. Just curious, outside of when you see his name in a headline, does anyone here even think of Tebow?

Fine, let him play, see how he does. Bad players get cut good players make rosters. Its that simple.

  2. I would take the under on 0.5 touchdowns and the over on distractions created.

  3. Tim Tebow sure strikes up a lot of scorn and mockery for someone who has never been accused of wrongdoing, treats everyone with respect and organizes a high school prom for kids with special needs.

  4. If he on the roster week1 I would think the bet would be a good play, he could end being a goal line QB.

  5. It could be he winds up making the roster based on more factors than just how he shows out as a TE. Meyer might take a look at what happens when he puts Tebow in a Taysom Hill-type role. Play him as a backup TE but also stick him at QB 3 or 4 times a game, see what happens.

If there was one thing Tebow always did well, it was get yards with his legs from the QB position. He’s pretty old now, but there’s not a lot of wear and tear on him, and I’ve read he’s in the best shape of his life, which is a significant statement.

I think he’d also do a great job as a Special Teamer.

And really, it’s not like the Jags are loaded at the TE spot… If I had that TE room, I’d put Tebow on my 55-man if he showed any flashes.

All this is to say, I give him a 50/50 chance of making the roster.

I don’t follow why it would work this way. Seems like the uncertainty of him making the team would be an integral part of the bet. If he gets cut then you REALLY picked wrong and you’re out of luck. If he’s hurt during camp and joins the team halfway through the season then your chances go down but you’d still have some hope. Will they also cancel the bet if he blows out his knee in the first quarter of Week 1? Because that’d kill your chances just as badly as him never making the team in the first place.

  7. Last season 33 tight ends scored 3 touchdowns or more. That essentially means that you’d have to be your team’s #1 tight end to be likely to score 3 touchdowns. Someone like Tebow would be a #3 tight end at best. On top of that, rookie tight ends rarely have much success, even if they’re highly drafted. George Kittle, David Njoku, Evan Engram, Zach Ertz, and Kyle Rudolph all scored fewer than 3 touchdowns last year. I think Vegas was counting on the Tebow hype to cause a lot of bets on the over but people who make these kinds of bets are a lot smarter than that.

Because it’s one of the stipulations to the bet, if they wanted it your way then that would be the stipulation. In this case they get free publicity on the bets with no action likely to happen. Not to mention if you’ve ever bet there are many different things you’ll see and none are hard to follow because nothing is generic but it’s no different than this prop bet likely isnt allowed to be put into a parlay

  9. Not saying this to be mean but Tebow does not look young anymore ,he has aged to the point that he doesn’t look like the age of an nFL player

I saw some film of him Practicing today on NFL network…..he is jacked…. If he gets the ball in the open field a lot of DBs will want nothing to do with him

  11. I’m wondering if the bettors read the fine print that Tebow has to play in Week 1 for the bet to count. I knew there had to be a catch. Hey I’m rooting for Tebow but I would take the under

  12. Wait for the Presidential campaign.
Tim St.Tebow 2024. All-American. The Hero we need in these troubled times.

  13. If he makes the roster, the easy bet is over. He will have a short yardage/goal line role as an H-back running option plays. That = TDs.

I’m wondering if you know that bets will be cancelled/refunded if Tebow doesn’t start Week 1.
