Maxx Crosby: I can’t wait to play with Yannick Ngakoue

If there’s one area in which the Raiders have struggled over the last few years, it’s been their pass rush.

Defensive end Maxx Crosby has been the team’s most productive player in that area since he was selected in the fourth round of the 2019 draft. He’s led the Raiders in sacks in each of his first two seasons, recording 10.0 as a rookie and 7.0 in 2020.

Now Crosby has a chance to become even more productive in the upcoming season with edge rusher Yannick Ngakoue as his running mate.

“I can’t wait to go out there and play with him,” Crosby said this week, via Vinny Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “He’s a great player. I’ve been watching him from afar. … so I’m really excited and looking forward to playing with him. He’s a stud.”

Ngakoue has 45.5 career sacks, recording 8.0 of them last year with the Vikings and Ravens.

Head coach Jon Gruden has said the Raiders’ pass rush starts with Ngakoue. If he draws more attention from opponents, that could help Crosby’s production on the edge as well.

  1. We can’t wait to watch this internally over hyped combo underwhelm neither!

  2. Maxx was bad last year. 7 sacks makes him look like he was decent at pass rushing. He wasn’t.. He’s horrible at holding the edge and can’t sniff out a screen pass if he literally knew it was happening before the play. He did have covid and was going through sobriety problems, so hopefully he can still build on his rookie year season.

  3. Maxx Crosby’s sack total consists of more than half his sacks against a team in his rookie year with 3rd string linemen.

He is the most average DE in the game.

Yannick is nothing special. Keep that energy going for your 6-11 season!

  4. Maybe he was just a bad fit, but Ngakoue wasn’t good in Baltimore last year. He couldn’t get off blocks and provided no pass rush at all.

  5. Crosby was injured last year (but played through it). Hopefully he’s at full strength in September.

  6. I’m not interested in what a player accomplished somewhere else. Ngakoue hasn’t recorded 1 snap with the Raiders.

  7. All the haters be gone! Winning season is on the way! 10-7 here we come!

  8. There is a big difference from hating when compared to excellent observation and honesty Cork!

7-10, you had the numbers wrong, Corky.

  9. Some of you have no clue about Maxx Crosby, and you just sound foolish with the hate. First, he has 92 QB pressure’s, and 17 sacks in two seasons. That’s impressive, when you consider that he has been the only effective pass rusher for the Raiders during that time. He’s often double teamed, occasionally triple teamed in pass rushing situations with a blocking RB/FB.

He leads all 2019 draft picks in sack’s and QB pressure’s, in a draft class that includes Nick Bosa (2nd overall pick), Josh Allen (Jax, 7th overall pick) and Brian Burns (16th to Car) just to name a few. He also played through multiple injury’s last year. He played with a torn left labrum in his shoulder, (I’ve had similar shoulder issues and can’t even comprehend playing football, extremely painful) and a broken right hand that required a plate to be installed, post season. He played through that. I doubt any of you keyboard warriors could do that, I know I couldn’t.

Despite that, he was ranked by PFF as the 15th best DE in the league. So he was 15th of 64 starting DE playing most of the season with major injuries and little pass rush help. Yeah, he sucks, lol. Any team in the league would love that production, and be thrilled to have him. You hater’s are clueless.

  10. Who is Maxx Crosby? He has some padded stats from doubling his sack total against against the Cincinnati Bengals 0-16 season with a 4th string high school caliber offensive line.

Ohhhhhhh, that Maxx Crosby. The guy they acquired from trading Mack away that isn’t even a 1/4th the talent level of Khalil.

  11. Maxx Crosby is average at the very best and so is Josh Jacobs. Acquiring Yannick like visiting the junk yard to bring in more dead weight to that bottom ten front seven will get you no where.

5-12 season at best with this underwhelming defensive squad that has no QB to help win games.

  12. OK that’s ENOUGH – what’s with this Khalil Mack GARBAGE?

He didn’t get the contract extension that Derek Carr got before 2017 so he sulked his way to a bid three sacks in the first half of the year as the Raiders faded from that playoff team that we were just the year before. Stepped up his production second half as he was after all concerned with his paycheck. “I-just-let-my-play-do-the-talking-I’m-one-of-those-quiet leaders” yadda yadda, not like Ray Lewis or Dick Butkus, he’s an edge rusher who gets some cool-lookin’ strip sacks.

In 2017 we were last in the NFL in sacks with this particular Canton Shoo-in “leading”. He wanted $25 million per for this. He and his agent used the sports media like bird dogs, so much so around here that I hope Florio got some payola. He would have sat all yearWe made the playoffs once with this guy but it wasn’t because of defense.

A very talented mercenary is Khalil Mack. Oh, whatta team guy. Fortunately we got something for him so he couldn’t just sit all season, the SUPERIOR Josh Jacobs among them. Guy smacks over better than anyone we’ve had since Marcus, 12 TDs is better that 12 sacks but maybe that’s just me.

There is a discernable effort from Mayock and Gruden to draft more “character players”, we’ll see if it works but it’s a different from Al. Ferrell wasn’t drafted as an edge rusher but to be a cornerstone of the line and for leadership. (Some production would be good Cle, it’s yer third season coming up …)

But I’m glad Mack’s gone. Cooper too, “my foot hurts” and when he gets outta Oakland he takes flight. Don’t miss him either.

  13. Mack’s is better than ANY draft pick the Raiders got in that trade and many before it. The Raiders decline climaxed with that trade and they still haven’t figured their way out of it.

The only discernable effort is for you force your pipe dream fantasies upon us with a team that has NO QB and NO replacement Mack. Also the Raiders can’t and won’t compete in the post season. Glad your happy with yesterdays garbage pick ups to replace Mack and you keep telling yourself Josh Jacobs was the “elite” pick up M0M0!

Josh Jacobs had few very lucky long runs, whoopity doooooo! Raiders still SuX0R!

  15. And I just WUV them dislikes! I like even more that the Chiefs just got stomped in the Super Bowl and their fans have them as a guaranteed winner of the next.

  16. Yup, KC really won the title last year. They just didn’t stop the count at a time when the Chiefs were ahead. Stop The Steal!
