Report: Rams and Titans have talked to Falcons about a Julio Jones trade, but nothing imminent

The Falcons are drawing some interest in trading wide receiver Julio Jones, but probably not for the compensation they’re looking for.

The Rams and Titans have both talked to the Falcons about trading for Jones, according to Mike Garafolo on NFL Network. But Garafolo expressed skepticism that the Falcons would get a first-round pick for Jones, and he said nothing is imminent.

That the Rams are in the mix at all casts doubt on the ESPN report that the Falcons already have an offer on the table of a 2022 first-round pick for Jones. The Rams don’t have a first-round pick in 2022 (or 2023) and they don’t have the cap space to take on Jones’ $15.2 million guaranteed base salary. If the Falcons really had an offer of a 2022 first-round pick from a team willing to take on Jones’ contract, the Rams would have already concluded that the trade is too rich for their blood.

At a time when other teams think the Falcons’ expectations are outlandish, the Rams and Titans may be in the mix not because they’re willing to meet the Falcons’ demands, but because they think no team is going to meet the Falcons’ demands and eventually the Falcons will lower their asking price. That might mean it will be a while before a trade gets done, and that when a trade does get done, the Falcons will end up with less than they were hoping for in exchange for a wide receiver who has been one of the best in the NFL but is now 32 years old and locked in to an expensive contract.

  1. But the ESPN reporters talked like a trade was going to happen at any moment.

  2. Makes sense. Stafford throwing to a 140 lb rookie isn’t going to get it done.

  3. Not sure I believe this although Tennessee might make sense since Jones would be an upgrade, if he can stay healthy. I had heard after the draft that the Rams were set at wide receiver so I don’t believe that one. Rams have no cap room and, as stated, no 1st round picks so that one seems kind of bizarre. Yes, I do believe Jones will be moved but not sure where the interest is. New England would be interesting!

  4. Julio spends a lot of time in LA during his offseasons. Given Sean McVay’s deep Atlanta ties, having grown up there, I wouldn’t be surprised if Jones ends up with the Rams. As a side note, Matt Stafford is very close friends with Matt Ryan. The transition might be made smoother because of that connection. Never underestimate what a small world the NFL can be.

  5. Bumbling Howie will swoop in & give away 3 1st round Eagles picks at the last minute for Quintorris Lopez “Julio” Jones Jr.. & declare “we are a wide reciever factory.”

  6. Huge Pats fan here….
Actually getting kind of tired of the Julio trade talks & where he ends up… but to be honest my best guess is it will involve multiple players being traded & a 3rd rounder that has POTENTIAL to become a second rounder if the Patriots are involved…..
Wino, Harry & the pick come to mind….. MAYBE a RB( like Sony)…
Something that would help BOTH teams both financially &
skill/depth/ need wise…but I also wouldn’t be shocked if the Pats just don’t make a movement for him due to cap & age….
    Guess we’ll know soon enough
    Go Pats!!!

  7. Rumors were circulating AZ is in the mix as well. AZ should do all they can to land Jones to ensure he doesn’t end up in a Rams or 49ers uniform. You Julio Jones to a roster that already includes DeAndre Hopkins, AJ Green, Christian Kirk, 2nd rd pick rookie WR Rondale Moore and Andy Isabella and you have a WR Corps so scary the league should pass a rule to make that much firepower on one team and illegal unfair advantage lol.
AZ has more draft capital than any team in the NFCW and they have more available cap space and they could massage the cap to free up more if need be. If reports are true Julio Jones isn’t garnering the kinda interest they assumed he would AZ should just offer a 2nd rd pick and get the deal over with esp considering it’s going to be a very late 2nd rd pick. Keim said AZ is going all in this year and next to win now while Kyler’s on a rookie deal this move would solidify that and bump AZ in the rankings immediately. Adding Julio to that roster is worth another 1-2 wins by himself, teams won’t have the corners to cover AZs weapons if they pull that move off.

  8. Atlanta: we will give you Jones for a second and a player.

LA: Could we just give you a few firsts instead?

All Atlanta’s execs should be shown the door if they trade for Harry. He’s probably the worst wr in the game right now.

  10. The Rams? I’d think the Falcons would want more than the best possible offer – their #1 in 2035
