Matt LaFleur: Hopefully we’ll see Aaron Rodgers on Tuesday

The Packers haven’t seen Aaron Rodgers since the 2020 season ended. They would love to see him next week at their mandatory minicamp.

Packers coach Matt LaFleur admitted Wednesday he doesn’t know Rodgers’ plans.

“It’s important that we have all our guys and certainly we’d love him to be here and hopefully we’ll see him Tuesday,” LaFleur said, via Olivia Reiner of Packers News.

LaFleur surely knows he shouldn’t hold his breath, even though the Packers can fine Rodgers $93,085 for missing all three days of the camp.

Rodgers has not shown up for any of the team’s voluntary offseason program.

The Packers also have practiced without receivers Davante Adams, Allen Lazard, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Equanimeous St. Brown and Devin Funchess.

“Just speaking from a friend standpoint, I just miss one of my friends just like I miss Allen, Davante,” tight end Robert Tonyan said of Rodgers. “It is optional, and I do wish one of my favorite teammates and friends on the team was here.”

  1. What planet is LaFleur living on? I would be surprised to see Rodgers actually humble himself and show up to Green Bay at this point. He is about as arrogant as they come.

  2. “hopefully” isn’t the word you want to use when you’re talking about your starting QB…

  3. The Packers management delusional issues have clearly spread to the coaches

  4. LaFleur is living in Packer management purgatory. A place Rodgers wants out of.

  5. It’s a great opportunity for Jordan Love as we begin the transition. He was robbed of his rookie camp and training camp experience because of the pandemic panic…

  6. certainly we’d love him to be here and hopefully we’ll see him Tuesday,”….but if not, we have Blake bortles !

  7. Nobody would benefit more by showing up than rodgers himself. It would just hurt him further by extending this pity party.

  8. Hope in one hand and… Rodgers has already gave up his $500,000 workout bonus. No way he’s showing up on Tuesday.

  9. Guess Matt hasn’t heard the saying, ‘Live in hopes and you die in despair.’

  10. I hope that I see him on Tuesday too. Since I live in Southern California I like my odds better.

  11. Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things,
and no good thing ever dies.

  12. Surprising to read LaFleur feels that way. After last season it seems clear that he doesn’t trust the QB in crunch time and would rather rely on his D.

  13. Where is Mark Murphy hiding out these days? When a team decides to kick an Aaron Rodgers to the curb, and trade up in the first round to draft a QB, those orders are coming from the highest perch. There is absolutely no doubt about that. If anyone wants an explanation, unless you’re talking to Mark Murphy, you’re just talking to a fall guy.

  14. I love the idiots who call Rodgers arrogant. If he shows up and gets hurt, they can cut him and pay him nothing further. He has no guaranteed money left. They planned on moving on after 2021 but the MVP season nipped them in the butt and pushed it back. Guarantee Rodgers some years and move on.

  15. All this unnecessary hoopla about Rodgers. Way for LaFleur to make Love feel like he’s wanted in Green Bay. Bah humbug!

  16. Mark Murphy should be let go if this gets anymore out of hand since supposedly he is the president, unbelievable this is still going on jeez.

  17. Don’t hold your breath! 4th and goal and you went to the kicker OVER your hall of fame QB.

  18. This is getting pretty sad. The way the coaches and his teammates sound, their “leader” basically abandoned them for now.

  19. Diva boy won’t be there. He still needs 3.756 million more people to sympathize with him before he swoops in to save the day.
I just hope whomever is advising him points out the pack hold ALL the cards.

  20. First of all, Rodgers doesn’t need OTA’s and neither does many other starters. I love the fact both the Packers and Aaron Rodgers, Inc., have said nothing from the very beginning. The fishies have been nibbling on whatever media gave them and the fact remains neither side has ever said anything. Que sera’, sera’. Whatever will be, will be. The future is not ours to see. Que sera’, sera’.

  21. The fact that he apparently doesn’t know if Rodgers is showing up or not is pretty interesting in itself.

  22. The Packers management should make it clear that they want to talk, then if Rodgers doesn’t respond so be it. Move on to trade options.

  23. So for everyone bagging on LaFleur please drop your pearls of wisdom on what he should have said other than what he said. LaFleur guided a team to 26 wins and consecutive NFC title games in his first two years as a head coach and now this gets dropped in his lap? As a Packer fan I’m thrilled this is our coach with or without Rodgers.

    Matt LaFleur is in denial

    ——————————————————

What is he supposed to say? I think saying that he hopes he’s there is as honest and open as he can be in the situation.

  25. The coach said, “we don’t know his plans.” Interesting, because last year Rodgers didn’t know your plans, and then you chose his replacement. The fact is, both sides messed this up. Greenbay has had Aaron for 16 or 17 years and did not know how he would react to been disrespected? If they are answering no to that question, then their management team is bad. Aaron Rodgers needs to understand that teams need to keep their edge in sports, which means pushing their players. Sometimes, the best way to push a player is by getting their replacement. I know people want to compare this to the Brett Favre situation, but Bret spoke about retiring, while Aaron never did. I am a Steelers fan, so I have no hand in this fight, but as a football lover, it will be sad to see this blow up like this for both sides. Hopefully, cooler heads will prevail, but I have a feeling it won’t.

  26. Rogers will be there. He”s money hungry and arrogant just like his Hollywood fiance.

  27. Man, this is almost like some variation of Stockholm syndrome with lots of delusion. I love it lol.

  28. Everything about the currant Aaron Rodgers can be summed up in one sentence. “Rodgers is way to full of himself.”

  29. I’m long past the point of caring if AR shows up or not.

Maybe the train has left the station?

  30. If Rodgers had any intentions of showing up on Tuesday, Lafleur just killed them.

  31. The big baby gets paid an insane amount of money to play a game. He is out of touch with what is going on in this country. How many people are out of work, took pay cuts, and the rest of devastation from covid. Someone with perspective would be thankful to be in his position.

Rodgers is a Diva. Hence the reason they took Love

Then why not trade Aaron Rodgers and prove everyone wrong including Aaron about their Jordan Love draft pick?

  33. Now isn’t the time to trade him.

Jordan Love may not be as ready as they’d like, this being his first real NFL offseason.

A trade would be much better in an offseason when the whole world knew he was available at the beginning of the offseason as opposed finding out the night of the draft. There would be many more hats in the ring, driving up the trade value.

So no, don’t trade him now. Call his bluff. If he retires, he retires. Take the financial relief and call it a day. If he decides to “pull a Favre” and unretire later he will still owe the Packers 3 seasons. Calendar years don’t matter.

First off, when your the team lead you lead by example, its not whether you as an individual need the practice or the OTAs. Aaron Rodgers IS the face of the franchise and setting a good example develops team chemistry. If he does come back the side effects of his lack of leadership could hamper the team’s chemistry. I do understand though there are different rules for different people whether in a football locker room or in the real world us non athletes live in. Just the way it is.

Smart people take the media’s take with a grain of salt. Its his actions and his silence that make for the talk. He could have put this all to rest and has had several opportunities at the Derby and on Kenny Mayne’s show, he didn’t take em.

Its cool you’re a Doris Day fan though.

  35. So now they’ve lowered their standards to, I hope my friend shows up for me…playing the friend card. OUCH

  36. The Packers are very solid on both sides of the ball. Rodgers knows staying put is probably his last and best chance to win another SuperBowl. It all depends on what he finds most important. If he’s done, Love is going to take over a very good squad. Most new top-tier quarterbacks get sent to bottom-dwellers where they oftentimes play too soon and fail. That’s not the case here, and it sounds like Love is doing well in camp.

  37. I bet Rodgers is going to pass on that. Get it? Because when he should have run in the NFCCG, he had another incomplete pass! I’m guessing LaFleur is kicking himself about that game. Get it?! Well, I think you do.

You hear of any players on the field in May and June that aren’t doing well? They all “do well” in May and June.

  39. Yes, I know OTAs are completely voluntary, but if you don’t realize that you’re a roster bubble player, you may just be too stupid for this team.
St. Brown and Devin Funchess missing these practices is just mind-numbingly dumb.

Funchess has essentially been out of football for the last two years and you’d think he’d be chomping at the bit to be out there getting acclimated with this new offense and trying to impress this coaching staff.

Makes me really want to see someone like, UDFA Bailey Gaither, or returning vet, Malik Taylor, impress enough to make the final 53.
    They get it.
And they’re out there busting their tails off trying to keep their NFL dreams alive.

  40. It’s not about OTAs. Yes those are optional and Rodgers may not need it (I’d say he does though), but this is more the fact that he’s not even communicating with his own coach and close teammates. They aren’t hoping he shows up to optional workouts, they are hoping he just shows up in the offseason period.

Thanks, but I sorta like the slow and soulful version by Sly and the Family Stone. Early 70’s.

  42. Add this to the list of embarrassing quotes after a break up.

Packers are in for a rude awakening after 30+ years of elite QB play.

Nobody knows that. Nobody. Keep wishing, hoping, and praying.

  44. Rodgers and the Packers FO are playing a really stupid game of Chicken. Chances are there will be no winners. I’ve reached a point where I just don’t care anymore.

  45. Nothing makes me happier then to see a QB spoiled fan base go without their QB. They’re a super bowl contender with him and a loosing team without him. They better do more then just roll out the red carpet or we are going to find out if Matt Lafleur is really Mike McCarthy.

    6-11 without him.

You do realize that it might be a good idea for Rodgers to meet his new starting center, don’t you? Maybe take a few snaps to start the learning process of how his new center delivers that ball…

Arrogance says he doesn’t need OTA’s.

In reality, OTA’s are held for the benefit of all players on the team. That includes long time veterans of the team (including an MVP QB), newcomer veterans of the team and all the rookies.

For the reigning MVP, it would show great leadership skills by showing up and participating with his new team members. Failing to appear because his feelings were hurt just shows Aaron’s lack of leadership skills.
